There’s loads of new watermasking in the Eastern part of the Caribbean. so it’s not a total deletion of it.

Can confirm this. Antigua, St. Kitts, Montserrat and Guadeloupe are all stunning. The watermasking is just gorgeous after the update.

And none of them did anything, until they did!

TFFS is a pretty intense landing!  Per Wikipedia “A special pilot license endorsement is required to land here.”

The charts also indicate special requirements as well (including you must have landed there as a co pilot under direction of a qualified pilot before attempting it yourself).

As the tradewinds are easterlies, TFFS certainly makes for an interesting landing. A helicopter or a Porter with a beta approach recommended.

The nearby Terre-du-Bas strip looked strange to me, like it was made with wood planks or something. I did a search on wiki. The strip has actually been closed since 2014 and these are photovoltaic panels ! So you are are warned now !

I didn't realize there was a special requirement there, but as you mention it, it's not surprising. I did a flight into there yesterday, I wanted to see the airport (it's awesome), and it wasn't a landing, it was an arrival! 😁

For the first time in my life a sim, by default, has gotten our majestic Pitons right and it didn't cost an extra penny. This update got soooo many things right about my country and I am giddy with excitement!

Wish the same could be said about the Bahamas...😌  The amazing reefs are gone (even if they were partially done to begin with).

Just read on the other thread that this update kills all water masks around the world?

Is that true?!

If so, is it the mandatory base update that kills all water masking around the world?     Or is it the actual Carribean WU from the Marketplace?

Can't check right now.

If it's the base update then I'll have already lost the masks, as I've already installed it. But if it's the WU then I'll avoid installing yet 👍

It's the base update. As I tried uninstalling the WU and the masks didn't return.🙁

I don’t know, I don’t think it’s ALL the world watermasking that goes I’ve still seen some outside the region. It does disappear in the Bahamas Cuba Jamaica and possibly the Dom Rep. Outside the WU (but nearby) it also vanishes in the Florida keys and up the E coast.

I think it will get fixed soon though? Seems like lots on the official forums are commenting on it.

Looks like Asobo needs a test team for World Updates.  An oversight like this is inexcusable to say the least.  How can you release a region and forget about it's key visual features?🧐

If you look at a map of the Caribbean It’s almost exactly half the Caribbean split at Puerto Rico that’s lost the water masking I wonder if there’s 2 sections Caribbean E and W and something went wrong with Caribbean west.

Still from PR east it all looks great.

All the POIs and elevation and satellite data is there on both it’s just the watermasking missing.

People are saying marking us gone in other parts of the world as well, not just the west Caribbean

Painfully slow download for me. MS even made a report about what happened three or four WU/SU updates ago, but it looks like they’re still at lost with the issue 🥱

I think I will check out each of the new Caribbean airports in my PMDG 737-600 over the next couple of days. Some of those Gaya Simulations hand crafted airports are really nice, with simple but effective terminal interior modelling (something that I would like to see as standard in Microsoft Flight Simulator airports).

It looks like there’s a forgotten (or not mentioned) airport in the WU16 list: the La Paloma airport MTCA

It was mentioned in the November Dev Q&A, probably just forgot to list it in the news post.
