MSFS 2020 Auto FPS App v0.4.2

Did you during all your tests of AutoFPS watch CPU and GPU temperatures? I observed that they can rise to very high values. Lowering some settings in the expert options got them quickly lower again.

Just my $0.02 🙂

My craziest test so far was probably TLOD 975 over Manhattan - I had several of the cores reach TJMax at 100 degrees Celsius. Luckily I have very decent cooling!

That was a torture test though, akin to benchmarking. During that test session I had several MSFS CTDs and a couple of Win11 freezes... For the last couple of days I've been using AutoTLOD (Min 100 max 300) for airliner flying.

TJMax is the maximum temperature a CPU will run at before it initiates its safety mechanisms to lower its clock speed and voltage to prevent overheating. If the CPU is still overheating even after slowing down, it'll shut down to prevent permanent damage.

My 4090 is never under much load though, so temps are fine.

I have just formally released AutoFPS version 0.4.2.10. You can read about it and download it here. In summary, it is a minor update to 0.4.2 that provides new options to address stuttering issue

As some users have requested, I've added a slightly darker background variant to the 0.4.2.10 release page, the direct link for which is here. The two versions are otherwise identical. A side-by-

The weird thing is, that when I run CPUID Powermax I can't reach the high values FS2020/Fnx A320 can together with AutoFPS running. I have to state, though, that even when I run FS2020 with only my Fenix A320v2B2 active, temperatures around 70C are quite regular to be observed even when I set graphic settings to low. The graphic settings in FS2020 seem not to play a big role in my CPU temperatures. Strange, but OK.
My cooling is pretty good, I think. (Noctua NH-U9S). Ever since last FS2020 SU14 I experienced very high CPU temperatures overflying Europe, someone told me that this problem would be solved with the expected SU15. Hopefully it will be released before this year ends 🙂 I am deviating too much from this thread's subject, forgive me for that, please.

I am very happy that I found the for me best settings in AutoFPS, using the 5% FPS Tolerance. With my rig I never will get the results as you do with your mini-Cray 🙂

Kind regards,

I have been following this thread but have not read it in its entirety.  I am now having a compatibility issue with this app when running PSXT traffic simultaneously.  It turns red and says MSFS compatibility error.  Either program will run without issue on their own.

No issues here on both pc’s when running this App + PSXT.

Try running the app when everything else is already running.

Thanks for the reply and suggestion.  I am still having the error on my system, despite uninstalling/reinstalling, and also unselecting auto start and only starting once everything is running.  I also did a restart of the computer.

Both were working together with previous versions of the software (PSXT has been updated several times during this time as well).

I haven't touched the simconnect part of the app, which is what determines the MSFS connection status, since the initial 0.4.0 release so I am not sure why it is not working for you with the current release sorry.

Just want to report that I am having substantial fps increase and performance with your addon. Still get occasional stutters but they are fewer.

Thank you!

Been using the latest version now for about  a half dozen flights, and it works perfectly.

Same here

Same. What settings are you using for IFR airliner flights? I’ve been experimenting but still indecisive.

IFR = 150 Tlod at base (1000 ft) and 600 at altitude (5000 ft) and AutoTLOD

VFR = 200 TLOD at base (100 ft) and 700 at altitude (3000 ft)

Thanks. I’ve been switching between AutoTLOD on/off. It works really well with TLOD max at 300 over Europe. Above that I start getting some stutters.

These expert settings have worked pretty much all over EU, even at major airports (IFR and airliners)

  • TLOD min 50 (with + checked) at base 1000ft
  • TLOD max 300 (can sometimes get away with higher)
  • AutoOLOD with 1000 at 2000ft and 20 at 5000ft
  • AutoClouds with the relative option (the + checked I believe)
  • Target FPS no more than 65 flying into major hubs

I'd have to look at the settings on my PC after the weekend to give you my expert settings. They aren't too dissimilar. However, the ease of AutoTLOD has been appealing and that's what I've been running for the last week.

There's a thread elsewhere on avsim that talks about FPS and stutter issues over Europe at cruising altitudes maybe that's your issue? I don't believe I saw a resolution. I have no issues with high TLODs over northern Europe (your area) but I haven't flown south of there in a bit. Actually, I did high TLODs (but lower altitudes) around LYTV.
