I have my camera positioned on the top of my Honeycomb yoke about .6 meters from my eyes.

Thanks.

  • I tried Beam eye tracker with another (driving) sim, out of the box and with no tweaking it seems to work fine, I believe it can only get better with a deep dive into it and Opentrack's settings to do

I have tried several settings and situations now (in MSFS, Farming Sim 22, DCS) with Beam Eye. I am a long term TrackIR user and would really like to avoid the Hat + reflector or the wireless IR

  • I will let you know if it is smooth with the Logi 4K

I tried the demo. It's pretty good (I have a 60fps webcam). But I still think StableView is better, and free. My only bug bear with StableView is that if it loses your head you often have to stop and start it again (takes half a second but kinda annoying) - it also seems like the developer has abandoned it. But so far I've not found anything as smooth. Beam Eye comes close though.

I'm trying the steam demo version but I have an issue whereby my opening view in the Cessna Longitude changes from the cockpit back to the middle and inside of the airframe.
I notice on a few videos that the open track output is selected to freetrack 2.0 Enhanced. I get no headtracking unless Microsoft FSX SimConnect is selected, but then this puts the viewpoint way back. There is the ability to adjust the x,y & Z axis points but there just isnt enough to move back to the cockpit.Any ideas why this imight be happening?

While I haven't tried this app, one of the issues of using a Webcam previously with Opentrack software was poor lighting, you couldn't use it in the dark or poor lighting and get decent results. It was the reason I opted for Tobii which works flawlessly in this regard since it uses IR. Has anyone tried this in poor lighting?

The latest version of Opentrack has an input source called Eyeware Beam. That is the one you should use. Under Options in Opentrack you will also need to bind a key for "Center". You press this once the software has a lock on your face and that will recenter the camera in MSFS.

If anyone gets this, try it in a darkened room and let us know how it goes.

I used a light meter app on my phone to measure room lighting. I measured the light level between my eyes and the camera lens and I had no problem using Beam at a light level of 5 Lux (0.5 foot candles).

It may depend upon your camera specs. I don't have a very expensive webcam but the blurb that came with it says it has "automatic low-light correction".

Any recommendations for suitable webcams? I just checked my usual hardware parts reseller and a good quality 4K webcam is easily on the same price level as Tobii, making it basically obsolete to go for Beam Eye Tracker instead of Tobii...

This cheapie from Amazon is working perfectly for me.

Anyone using the Trust Tyro Full HD webcam for this? Only costs 22 euro's where I live. I'd like to give Beam a try to replace my trusty old TrackIR but don't want to spend too much money just for a demo. I love TIR but never liked the cable of the Track Clip Pro. Always gets in the way. And I often have light from behind screwing things up.

You don't have to pay for anything, that's why its called a demo?

He means he needs a webcam. Same for me. Someone said 30fps made it stagger.

MSFS 2024 -Too many airplanes to name. Too many airports to name.

I have been using Tobii Eye Tracker 5 for a while together with Opentrack with great results using MSFS, DCS and IL2. No issues with sunlight behind, a common issue with TrackIR and similar devices.

There is a tripod plate in their website so you can use it with virtually any mini tripod with a 1/4" screw.

This. And somewhere I read that 4K works better. And then there are webcams being better in low light conditions than others. So I would really love to see some recommendations.

I’m having the same exact issue no matter what plane I use…the viewpoint is in the cargo hold, back in the cabin, or outside the a/c. I’m using eyeware beam as the input in opentrack and have a keybind to “center” the view and still no luck. Did you figure it out?
