METARS are like dinosaurs, or in aviation - VOR's. They just need to die off. Usually out of date and I don't give a rats word not allowed about VATSIM/.

METARS are not only for VATSIM. While I am a VATSIM member, I don’t fly on the network all that often. They are of use for anyone who uses real-time flight planning tools and charts. When I am flying from point A to B, I constantly monitor the latest METARS and also the current digital ATIS which is available online for most larger airports. It affects all aspects of my flight planning - including which departure runway I will use, and which specific STAR and approach I can expect at the destination.

but with all the tablets and weather data out there that most pilots use - ARE real world METARS really that usable anymore?

Of course... What do you think pilots are displaying on their tablets?  Forecasts and observations, right?  Where do observations come from?  METARs.  That's literally what a METAR is, simply an accurate, standardized observation of weather conditions over an airport.  Without METARs, all we would have would be forecasts.  No one in their right mind (and no commercial operator, legally) would commence an approach without an idea of what to expect at the other end of it.  Without METARs, there's nowhere else to get that information.

Found the boomer...(sorry, couldn't resist)

I thought selflessness (eg putting the financial gain of others ahead of your own) was a self-assigned gen y/z thing, and boomers were supposed to be selfish?  I feel like you're mixing generational metaphors here now.  😁

never requested Asobo to put them in MSFS and completely screw up the weather system (turn it into never ending cumulus puffs and METAR circles

The “never ending cumulus puffs” are not caused by METAR. They are probably a side effect of Asobo’s attempt to improve performance with Live Weather by (among other things) reducing cloud density.

And “METAR circles” (at least where clouds are concerned) are no longer a “thing” because I am pretty sure Asobo stopped setting clouds based on METAR quite some time ago - at least a couple of SUs back. All clouds are once again generated by the MeteoBlue model, as they were in the beginning. This can lead to situations some people have observed where the METAR reports thunderstorms, but Live Weather has partly cloudy - it is because the MB model did not predict thunderstorms at a particular location and time.

Now “visibility circles” do exist. Surface visibility does still come from the METAR.

If you looke on the REX Discord channel you can see clearly that Weather Force has not been abandoned. All of our products have had regular updates and added features. We just added 5 year historical / archive weather data. We are adding new features soon.

Any real pilot that doesn't check Metars  before he takes off in my opinion, is an accident going someplace to happen.

You can add notams to that !!!

And more importantly, TAFs, and you better know how to read them.

I'm a long-time (and happy) REX user. With no disrespect to REX, I bought/installed ActiveSky.

After only the briefest of flights, I can add:

1) GUI and general performance is good - no issues!

2) With respect to the toolbar problem, I can confirm that Scriptless's mod gives no grief (https://flightsim.to/file/19879/bettertoolbar-for-msfs)

3) As an added bonus, I found that the map view also shows GA AI traffic as generated by [the excellent] GAMod.

I just want to turn it off. I never requested Asobo to put them in MSFS and completely screw up the weather system (turn it into never ending cumulus puffs and METAR circles). I'd rather do without and enjoy the live weather as is was in MSFS at launch; a natural flowing weather biome with fronts and realistic wx features

You understood that the wrong way. At release the live-weather had a HUGE bug: the local conditions at airports were completely off. Pressure, temperature, winds and cloud-coverage were all wrong in 80% of cases or more. No chances to plan any of your flights with such an unpredictive "mess". So to fix that they had to add metars (don't know why they forgot it first). The MB-general-forecast doesn't have the resolution to simulate the individual weather at airports. So they had to blend 2 weather-sources. They didn't "completely screw up the weather system", they made it better (because it was completely screwed up at the beginning). The fact that you prefered it doesn't change the fact that it had nothing to do with "real live weather", at least where it matters the most (around airports, to start and land) and had to be fixed. I very much doubt that they will add another option like "fantasy weather" just to please those who prefered that completely inacurate weather, just because it looked more "natural".
