Stuck on "Checking for updates..."

Manually syncing time didn't have any effect for me on my Win11 kit.

I fired up Windows Store this afternoon, headed to Apps and got all the pending updates.  Lots of them, many with no particular relation to MSFS.  I tend to do this just before an MSFS app update but thought I'd give it a go for this issue.

Thereafter all good! My hunch is that there was one or more interdependencies between some modules that had got out of step with each other.

Or maybe someone just fixed things server side.  Who knows...anyhow happy to be back in the air 😀.

Message to Microsoft...you took the money now up your server capacity to provide the service so many paid for (all my other connectivity dependent stuff is doing fine)

  • For me that worked one time. But when the problem recurred next time it did not work. For me it seem more of a random event if we get stuck at checking for updates

Same here.  i have had this issue three times in the past week, and none in the almost four years since release.  Way too many enthusasts reporting this in the past week to ten days for it to be an individual issue on every one of the affected systems.  I am simply closing MSFS from Task Manager and restarting.  It has restarted just fine each time other than greeting me with the Safe or Normal boot dialog.  I just start normally.

Late yesterday I logged out of both the xBox app and the MS Store app and logged back in to both.  Have only flown twice since then so too early make any claims or suggestions.

I am absolutely thrilled to see that so far none of the posts in this topic recommend reinstalling Windows from scratch and then reinstalling MSFS. 🙄

Gaming Services and XBox App are in there.

Just want to keep MSFS happy.

😉

It also has native VR which works with almost no loss of fps compared to 2D, and is more stable and far less hassle in VR. What it doesn't have is any traffic, vehicles, people, almost nothing moves except the scenery. But the VR is far better than MSFS.

5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB  PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.

This morning both MSFS pc’s are hanging on the Checking for Updates screen.

Even signing out/in in both the MSFS Store and XBox Live does not solve it anymore

Will shut everything down and try again later today.
