  • For me that worked one time. But when the problem recurred next time it did not work. For me it seem more of a random event if we get stuck at checking for updates

Using PCs since the mid 80's  Never have done that  once.

Same here.  i have had this issue three times in the past week, and none in the almost four years since release.  Way too many enthusasts reporting this in the past week to ten days for it to be an individual issue on every one of the affected systems.  I am simply closing MSFS from Task Manager and restarting.  It has restarted just fine each time other than greeting me with the Safe or Normal boot dialog.  I just start normally.

Late yesterday I logged out of both the xBox app and the MS Store app and logged back in to both.  Have only flown twice since then so too early make any claims or suggestions.

With the numerous reports surfacing about this specific issue added to the separate reports of server outages, can we find an avenue to reach agreement that this appears to a "likely" intermittent server issue and that it is "likely" it is not any step we have taken either as a group or individually that "likely" made a difference?

Despite that, I anticipate there will "likely" continue to be arguments and suggestions about remedies.
I did say likely....  😉

I used map enhancement for months. The latest version caused all kinds of problems on my system, and I finally uninstalled it and removed every trace of it..

Also I`ve found a malware using the exact same port 443 crxupdate.com and quarantine it

Bobsk8 please can you explain the step you have use it to uninstall the enhancement map.

Thanks

Thankyou, Bartol. MSFS was stuck at searching for updates. It was indeed a corrupted hosts file. Uncorrupting it cured the issue immediately.

I can't delete or change or rename a hosts file unless notepad is running as an administrator.  Windows search box "notepad", right click, run as administrator. Open hosts file there now and I can alter it.  (Remove all lines not beginning with #).

Just for the record, in my case who never used any Bing or Google scenery mod, and only have a few addon aircraft installed and the "trees height" mod from the Marketplace, there were no corrupt files, but resync of the time service did solve the problem, so, I do believe it's more of a sever-side problem (?)

Wonder if it may have anything to do with a fix they mentioned in the last Q&A being working on regarding errors in Time Zones ?

Restart PC, do an uninstall of Map Enhancement, in windows uninstall her. Then check to make sure there is no Map Enhancement folders left on your PC, remove entries in hosts files, that were placed there by Map enhancement, and the last thing I did was to do a DNS flush, and while I was at it, I switched to the Google DNS.  All issues disappeared.

Totally different issue? BTW , just looked at their page on Flightsim.to, reviews, half a dozen recent comments where after installing the latest version of   Map Enhancement , had to do a complete reinstall of MSFS 2020 to repair issues.

Thanks Bobsk8

Last week I`ve made a purchase at the MSFS2020 store ,and soon after my debit card got hacked due to the crxupdate.com running in the same port (443)

The author of the enhance map also mentioned the (443 also used by MSFS store) and triggered my curiosity and eventually found the Trojan horse (not necessary linked to the map tool) but more about window`s in general lack of safety 😩

I think my MSFS install may be wrecked but I`ll never buy anything at the store using  windows
