Stuck on "Checking for updates..."

Featured Replies

I'm now experiencing the issue myself. Been "checking for updates" for about 29 minutes as of this comment. I'm going to give up here in a sec....No map enhancements on my end. Utterly ridiculous!

Message to Microsoft...you took the money now up your server capacity to provide the service so many paid for (all my other connectivity dependent stuff is doing fine)

  • For me that worked one time. But when the problem recurred next time it did not work. For me it seem more of a random event if we get stuck at checking for updates

Had this happen a few days ago. I eventually had to uninstall/reinstall the game. That worked. Now after this last small update today, not even reinstalling the game works.Don't know if it could be related, but have noticed an increase in micro stutters over the last 2 days.

So I did another uninstall/reinstall. Now the game crashes 2/3 into the loading screen. Community folder empty, lastest nvdia driver installed. This is getting rediculous. Anybody else getting CTD's?

YEP!! Same here! Haven't flown in a week due to RL...fired up today to get the update and sim cacked itself 3/4 way through start up! Nothing i did changed it - including all the usual remedies and suspects... so pulled the pin and uninstalled everything... now musing whether to wait for 2024 or reinstall... just don't know if Ive got the time to invest with all the add-ons etc... such a shame...

Another big issue this Sim loves to have them, this particular one has been sporadic since SU15 but has become much much worse in the past week or so, last night I simply gave up, Elden Ring DLC can't come soon enough!

Fired up both MSFS pc’s and the left view client loaded into MSFS without any issues, while the server hung on the Check Updates screen.

Logged out/in on XBox Live and MS Store.
Now it either hangs on the Check Updates screen, or crashes between Check Updates and GUI.

Worked flawlessly yesterday …

Tried another way what at least worked one time :

Startung MSFS from inside the XBoxLive app. Took less than a second for the Check Updates screen.. And just loaded into the sim.

To be sure I shut MSFS down and tried again 3 times and it worked every time.

You might try it to see if this helps for you too.

Checking for updates is back for me again..it was absolutely fine yesterday

CPU: 7800X3D | RAM: 64GB G.Skill Trident Z Neo CL32 | Mobo: Gigabyte Aorus Elite AX GPU: Gigabyte RTX 4090 OC

I've had no issues since xmas 2020 when I did a re-install, about a week ago the checking for update started - so after a quick google I've been using the offline workaround - which although works fine isn't great if they push down an update.

New PC Ryzen 9850X3D - 32gb ddr5 6000Mhz - MSI MAG B850 Tomahawk wifi - Gigabyte wind force gaming OC 5090 - 2TB Sabrent NVMe. Old PC - Ryzen 5900x - 32gb 3600Mhz RAM - Asus Strix X570-F Motherboard - ASUS TUF OC RTX 3090 - 1TB Sabrent NVMe. AOC AGON 32" 144Hz - Honeycomb Yoke - Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog. T Flight Rudder Pedals - Trackir.

I downloaded the update no problem and loaded into the sim without a hitch but got my first CTD in months when approaching the runway after a looooong cockpit prep. So frustrating.

The event viewer related the crash to the Settings.dat file which is interesting as some of my settings were changed after the update.

Logging out and back in on the Xbox App solves this every time this has happened for me.

AMD Ryzen 7 5800x3d, MSI X570 Pro, 32 gb DDR4 3600 ram, Gigabyte 6800 16gb GPU, 1x 2tb Samsung  NvMe , 1x 2tb Sabrent NvME, 1x Crucial 4tb Nvme M2 Drive

Been back to normal since last night, with no more hangs on Checking for Updates.
