Hey all!

For those of you who have a LOT of add-ons installed, do you notice that the more add-ons the sim loads up the worst performance is? How about stutters? If so, do you use MSFS Addons Linker to ONLY activate the add-ons you need for your flight? I have over 500 GB worth of add-ons installed. Could I be missing out on performance by having so many installed?

I have TONS of addons (mostly scenery) installed and i have zero issues with performance. Never had actually even in the FSX days, the sim will load what it needs for the location you're currently in.

CASE: Fractal Terra Silver CPU: AMD R5 7800X3D 5.0Ghz RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 GPU: nVidia RTX 4070 Ti SUPER · SSDs: Samsung 990 PRO 2TB M.2 PCIe · PNY XLR8 CS3040 2TB M.2 PCIe · VIDEO: LG-32GK650F QHD 32" 144Hz FREE/G-SYNC · MISC: Thrustmaster TCA Airbus Joystick + Throttle Quadrant · MSFS2024 · Windows 11

My sim seems to load slowly however many addons are turned on, annoyingly! And overall performance is the same whether my community folder is full or not.

The sim may initially load up faster but that time saved will be lost and then some by having to start Addons Linker and disable what you don't want to load.

I have Add-On Linker ( and love it, of course ) but the preset I use loads up just about every add-on I have. Doesn't seen to adversely affect the sim, as far as I can tell.

Surely not everybody was kung fu fighting.

As the previous poster, I load almost every addon except those that I disabled because they caused issues.
Sure, the sim takes a long time to load but that would be at the bottom of my list that Asobo should fix. There are lots of things I do while the sim is loading, like creating a flightplan, reading the manual that came with a new aircraft, check the weather or check avsim for interesting threads. I would miss all that if the sim started instantly🤓

It's more about stability, reducing chance of addon incompatibility and subsequent CTDs in the middle of a flight.

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

I don't think there's any better performance... just decreased load times.

I use it a lot but really I should start picking planes I fly because I have over 800 liveries LOL.

Totally agree ... it's a great way to debug addon incompatibilities - and yes it does reduce startup/load times significantly. I often run with around 400-500 addons activated and occasionally disable all of them for testing and startup is noticeably faster.

If you really mean "performance" then how about a 4th choice = "Haven't Tested"

I mean "performance" to me means smoothness in the sim, but if you mean load times then Addon Linker definitely without a doubt helps with that.

Interesting question. Can’t say I’ve noticed any difference except loading time. I used to be meticulous about organizing everything into folders and subfolders, various regions etc etc. Nowadays I just load the sim with my crazy amount of addons (probably 3-400 I would guess). While the sim is loading, I’ll do the flight planning. Or check Avsim 😅

Addon linker: My Addon linker folder is called ADDONS.

I remove 20 addons when I fly in time period of modern day.

I remove 3 addons when I fly in time period 1930s.

Some of these Addon Linker will only move in and out of Community. And the others AL will move in and out of Official.

Notice in my picture there are 19 addons in the folder I call **Official**. Everything in that folder Addon Linker will only send in and out of the Official folder, and never Community.

(If I made the **Official** folder a subfolder of Addons, then this scheme would not work.). Official addons and Community addons have to be in a separate folder and one of these not under the other. And everything in that folder has to be told in the AddonLinker Menus to go in and out of Official instead of Community. That's all there is to it.

Addon Linker is very versatile!

And if I click the Remove All icon, then MSFS boots up 2-1/2 minutes faster!

I said above "I remove 20 addons when I fly in time period of modern day. " It only takes 3 mouse clicks to do that.

1) I click on the AddonLInker icon which adds all addons into both community and into official.

2) I click on the subfolder Too Vintage for Community. It removes 3 addons.

3) I click on the folder Too Vintage for Official. It removes 17 addons.

Three clicks and the exact 20 I need to remove are gone (these 20 are all old 1930s airports).

Without AddonLInker I would have to search Community and Official for the 20 I need to remove. Would take forever, instead of just 3 quick mouse clicks.

Suppose instead I want to fly vintage era.

1) Click on the add all addons icon.

2) click on the Too Modern for community icon

3) click on the Too Modern for official icon

It's just as easy!
