Where to get the "Bing" version of Google Maps Enhancement?

Everything is working on my  system including the map enhancement. I was curious after reading this thread, and looked at my host file. The folder is there, but it contains nothing. Do you know why that is?

Have you disabled the option to hide operating system files in the folder options for this folder?

Bing Latest is pretty amazing and much better than Google Maps. It does feel like an MS2024 preview.

The hosts file can disappear. It needs to be there. The file will have to be recreated using notepad. Here is how to do that:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/how-to-reset-the-hosts-file-back-to-the-default-c2a43f9d-e176-c6f3-e4ef-3500277a6dae

To prevent doing this in the future, make a copy of the normal hosts file and store it somewhere safe.

To be clear, the hosts file you create should not be named hosts.old

No, it is not hidden, and the folder says it contains 0  data, empty in other words.

Not sure what is going on then - checked mine and the hosts file as well as a few others are present and correct in C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc

Did that and still not loading.  Here is copy of Host file I created

•    •    # Copyright (c) 1993-2006 Microsoft Corp.
•    #
•    # This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
•    #
•    # This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
•    # entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
•    # be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
•    # The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one # space.
•    #
•    # Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
•    # lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
•    #
•    # For example:
•    #
•    # 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
•    # 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com
•    # x client host
•    # localhost name resolution is handle within DNS itself.
•    # 127.0.0.1 localhost # ::1 localhost

I'm running Windows 11.

Can you post me a copy of your Host file?

In your file all lines start with #. That means they are commented out and will not be read by Windows.

at least remove the hash from the last line.

// 5800X3D // RTX 3090 // 64GB RAM // HP REVERB G2 //

OK, I looked up this hosts file, and basically it is an old fashion way to look up an IP address, and has been replaced by a DNS server. Really not necessary unless you have an IP address that is not in a DNS server.

Still not working. Still like to have a copy of a good Host file.  I can type it in.

I am not by my computer now, but I can send you mine later.
Also make sure there is no extension to the file. Like .txt or .cfg

the name should only be hosts

This is already the third time I've said it. If you no longer want to see this problem you must turn photogrammetry OFF

What does PG off fix when seeing wrong seasonal Bing tiles when using the mods Latest Bing setting ?

With the default Bing map tiles there is no issue in that region.

Quote :

Photogrammetry as it applies to MSFS is the use of photos to generate 3D models.

PG is one of the main features from MSFS. But everyone can choose to have them On or Off.

Thanks.  I deleted the .txt extension when I created it.  What I think I need is their ip address. Your file should have it.

So what was your solution?

https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/v72822654

The above will work. Doing this you will backup your current hosts file and make a new one. Please note the 2nd to the last line and last line in your new hosts file may need to be different. If you are for instance using a VPN, then it will be different.

Note the info about the fs-base-nav folder. Try deleting that from the  folder named Official.

The hosts file should have no lines that do not begin with #. Delete all lines that do not begin with #.

All that remains should be this (note the blank lines begin with # too).
