June 5, 20241 yr https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2164364928 My notes: They will be at FSExpo SU15 recap their highest internal metrics for stability and performance goals iniBuilds A320neo now 500k+ downloads DX12 tiles issue fixed various other fixes and improvements They clarified again the extra aircraft (i.e. local legends) are done by teams outside of Asobo They'll still attempt to upgrade to newer GDK in later sim update, to improve memory usage The new memory handling/usage backported from MSFS 2024 is only for PC Q: When will we get new Bing data? A: When MSFS 2024 is launched the new world/aerials data and updated DEM will benefit both 2024 and 2020 Q: Sim's limit of 1000 sim objects per add-on is causing some popular add-ons to struggle (i.e. high density airports), can this be removed? A: For PC they will look to relaxing this and make it more flexible in future Q: Why is the main thread usually the limiting factor A: Sim is multi-threaded, usually 30-40 threads (and 1000-3000 fibres i.e. lightweight threads at times).. they unload as much as possible to multiple threads, but there is orchestration involved and work to ensure there is no collision between threads and no contention for same data, etc. One thread for offloading to GPU, I/O on another thread, physics are on multiple threads, etc. The main thread is the one that waits for everything to finish before moving on to next frame. Sometimes the main thread is taking longer than the time GPU took so then you're effectively main thread limited. Q: What is the update on the cloud opacity fix? Clouds are currently too transparent A: Did not have time to look into this for SU15, still on radar to be fixed Q: What about weather radar API and general live weather data accessibility? A: They are still talking with Meteoblue re: legal/contractual issues/blockers in sharing their data. Jorg also said he is "spiritually not against" opening up access to weather via APIs and write access for 3rd party weather add-ons, but various technical and non-technical issues need to be worked through. New London is coming, currently in progress Q: Can they share # of users per platform (i.e. XBox vs PC etc)? A: About 60% PC, 40% XBox They will do another sim update later this year ... time zones issue will be fixed in both 2024 and later 2020 SU City update 8 will be Las Vegas (in celebration of FSExpo) ... City Update 9 (July 4th) will be US northeast including Washington D.C. which took 4 years to get approval for photogrammetry etc MSFS 2024 will definitely be backwards compatible with existing add-ons .. and the SDK will be available prior to launch (not quite ready yet) Re: 3rd party add-on developers doing advertisements within their products, MS/Asobo's general policy on marketplace is add-ons that negatively impact user experience can be removed immediately... but this particular add-on is not on marketplace, so MS/Asobo have no control There'll be a sale of the top add-ons/aircraft starting on June 9th (Jorg was being coy and smiling, but obviously that's when the XBox showcase event is where we are likely to get new info on MSFS 2024) Sim Update 16 (but smaller than usual SUs) in July, mostly with updated GDK, time zone fixes, etc On other aircraft seen in first MSFS 2024 trailer not already disclosed as to who's developing them: Cessna 188 is from Ceranado, air crane is from Blackbird, others from Asobo, I didn't catch the whole list Edited June 5, 20241 yr by lwt1971 Len 1980s: Sublogic FS II on C64 ---> 1990s: Flight Unlimited I/II, MSFS 95/98 ---> 2000s/2010s: FS/X, P3D, XP ---> 2020+: MSFS Current system: i9 13900K, RTX 4090, 64GB DDR5 4800 RAM, 4TB NVMe SSD
June 5, 20241 yr sounds like cargo ATR is coming Jorg didn't say it directly, but he said it was a highly requested for the ATR and required new art
June 5, 20241 yr Tried to get some sort of answer about improving the default WXR if they can't provide access adding functions such as TILT but the answer didn't go to plan ha. Thankfully Raul from FSReborn said the following in chat to someone - So hopefully that will help! Quote Airbus has nothing to do with weather.. don't worry I will explain what we looking for better in person to Jorg and his team and I am sure a good outcome will be achieved Vote to fix transparent sun visors having no effect on the sun glare effect in MSFS at: https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/sun-shades-sun-visors-not-influencing-light-in-cockpit/691565/
June 5, 20241 yr They actually used my exact question about cloud opacity 😄 Also, more users are on PC????? Woahhhhhhhhh. Well, well, well. Some narratives are gonna have to change! 5800X3D. 32 GB RAM. 1TB SATA SSD. 3TB HDD. RX 9070XT.
June 5, 20241 yr Wow, they're finally fixing the timezones. Will be fixed in 2024 launch, and in 2020 in an update later this year. Edited June 5, 20241 yr by Tuskin38

June 5, 20241 yr Famous Flyer 10, B707-320C comes out July 4th. Made by Aeroplane Heaven There will also be a City Update that day covering the north east US, including Washington DC Photogrammetry Edited June 5, 20241 yr by Tuskin38
June 5, 20241 yr So, the next two aircraft (C-47 and B707) are both from a developer not known for their accuracy, and rather known for their obstinacy and unwillingness to fix bugs. I suspect these two entries will be a waste of time, so here's hoping for better aircraft later in the year.

It is pretty disappointing that they continue to work with Aeroplane Heaven. These two iconic airplane would have deserved it to be created from a good developer. If MSFS 2024 is significantly better than MSFS 2020 (and compatible with all of my addons), then the chances of me purchasing it on release day have just hit the roof. I have also been waiting for another big sale in the addons market, so it looks like I will be able to open the Steam Wallet again very soon EDIT: On a side note, I thought that we were not getting another Sim Update until 2025?
