I don't think navblue ever made it to the release version.

Asobo gets their AIRAC data from navblue IIRC

Not impressed at all by this new MSFS2024 Trailer presentation and it clearly confirms visually than LOD distances and Clouds are the same. There was especially a lot of work on popular attraction.

It's a big disappointment for me.

Per this week's development update https://www.flightsimulator.com/june-13th-2024-development-update/, re: FS Expo:

Last but certainly not least, next week many members of the Microsoft Flight Simulator team will be at FlightSimExpo in Las Vegas, Nevada! If you’re attending in-person, be sure to stop by our booth to speak with our team. We love meeting you and talking about flight simulation! While you’re at the booth, you can also try your hand at some in-sim challenges. We’ll be giving away many fantastic prizes to the top scorers throughout the weekend. You can find us in booth 502, the biggest booth on the convention floor, so it’ll be impossible to miss us.

Announced earlier this week, the Microsoft Flight Simulator team will be presenting two panel discussions during FlightSimExpo. The first starts at 3pm Vegas time (2200 UTC) on Saturday, June 22. In this presentation, Jorg and Seb will give an update on Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. The second presentation will have members of our Marketplace team sharing business insights of the in-game Marketplace and providing an introduction to the MSFS2024 Marketplace. This session starts at 12:30pm Vegas time (1930 UTC) on Sunday, June 23. For those who aren’t attending FSExpo in-person, both sessions will be streamed live as they happen on both our official Twitch channel and official YouTube channel. We wish to offer our sincere thanks to the FlightSimExpo organizers for allowing us to stream these sessions to the many simmers around the world who wouldn’t otherwise be able to see these presentations.

Funny how they went from being criticized for not announcing 2020 at FSExpo 2019 to now boasting the biggest floor space and conducting two panels at FSE 2024. I also noticed that unlike last year's 25 min keynote, Jorg and Seb will now be presenting for an hour! I'll also definitely tune into Sunday's presentation on the 2024 Marketplace.

I was (and I think he's also) talking about the Charts+ they've mentioned/promissed to provide in-sim. Maybe now, that all planes will have tablets/EFBs by default, they will finally provide the Charts+ in those.

I think their presentation will be interesting for sure, but I'm really looking forward for the interviews they will attend in the event (I'm sure a lot the specialized media will be there and will try to interview them like last year).

Ya the longer hour slot is definitely good and hopefully more details and videos (I doubt they'll have any alpha versions to demo live, but who knows). FSExpo's announcement about this MS presentation also said part of that hour will be Q&A, so more opportunities for all the burning questions to be addressed live. And the interviews yes I'm also looking forward to as those can get pretty in-depth like what Helisimmer's Sergio did after last year's expo, also MSFSAddons, etc. Those interviews are also opportunities for Jorg & Seb to reveal more stuff, whether intentionally or inadvertently 🙂

I've watched the last episode of "the three grumpy simmers" and Sergio said they would be there and talk to Jörg. One thing they've said they will pass to Jörg and Seb, and I think is a great idea, they will suggest they create an easy way to create jobs, tasks etc to the career mode, outside the SDK with an easy to use SDK. That's why those events are a good thing, they create opportunities to the community get even closer to them (not just the forums/zendesk/Q&A streams etc).

About that idea above, making it easier to improve the persistent world of the new MSFS, opening it up so people can create new jobs/tasks is the way to go IMO. Something like FSEconomy does right now. Aircraft Market would also be great. I like the economic aspects of the Flight Simulation (repair costs, fuel costs, ground crew costs etc).

I fly jets for a living, and I'm happy they are including more reasons to fly than "here's a world map, do whatever." You have missions in real life. Reasons for doing what you're doing. You also don't just spawn in the cockpit, crank up, and go. Any expansion of what it's really like to be a pilot is welcome, IMO.

The other benefit a career mode provides is a reference point for seeing lots of cool places in the sim. Would I normally research some backwoods Aussie strip or where to go hot-air balloon in Africa? No. But a career mode that curates the locations for me and puts me in some cool spots doing some cool things I may have never otherwise seen or done is a positive.

Booting up, spawning in the cockpit, and flying A to B isn't bad, but there's no reason to limit the hobby to that. Heck, I don't even sim anymore right now because I get enough of the mundane flying in real life. A career mode that provides some purpose, backstory, and variety is a good thing.

Exactly my thoughts. And free flight will still be possible, for the days I just want to fly freely. They didn't say anything about it, but an in-sim dispatcher would also be a great addition for both free flight and career mode.

NavBlue still supplies the monthly AIRAC updates. I am not surprised that they were never able to reach an agreement with NavBlue for charts. NB is not set up for, nor (probably) comfortable with supplying their commercial charts for hobby use. Before MS approached them about supplying AIRACS for MSFS, NavBlue (as a corporate entity) was probably completely unaware of the existence of flight simulation as a hobby.

It’s a very different with Jeppesen, which is very aware, and very supportive of the FS hobby and has been for decades. It is probably far too late for MS to strike an independent deal with Jeppesen for MSFS charts, considering Jepp’s existing partnership with Navigraph.

As a former pilot and long time active flight simulation enthusiast I could not agree more.  I do hope we see more trailers in the coming months.  As you pointed out, so far we have seen a broadening of experiences.  Career related, enthusiast related.  Allow me to refer to that as width. Spreading out to a wider range of experiences so to speak.  What I hope to also see in MSFS 2024 is more depth. More in the way of accurate realism.  Significant improvements in communications (ex ATC, pilot to pilot, pilot to ops, etc). Realistic traffic. Realistic ground ops (ramp workers and vehicles that are compliant with standards, i.e. stand clear when its time). Improved weather features such as accurate dew point reporting (or eliminate DP from ATIS/AWOS).  Something other than "ten".  Totally embarassing when the reported DP is higher than the reported temperature.  More weather textures, cloud types, and at appropriate altitudes.

And it's time to compile a list of flawed airports and correct them to a minimum standard. Freeware developers have nicely addressed some of them, but not all.  I find them embarassing. Check the quote at the bottom of my message footer.  I found another one yesterday when I flew into Newton, Iowa, USA, (KTNU).  Where buildings and structures should be are puddles of color. KTNU sits immediately adjacant to Iowa Motor Speedway, making it a destination for Indycar and Nascar races which both feature incredible race and music concert weekends sponsored by a successful regional grocery store chain, Hyvee. There are many others like this that here after nearly four years have been ignored, including my home airport KESN, also KCTJ West Georgia Regional, a popular GA airport in the Atlanta area.  Take a couple of minutes to look at those default airports.  There are numerous others.

Why are they wearing helmets?

same reasons motorcyclists and bicyclists do.

Terminal velocity in a normal jump is around 120mph, so the Full Face helmet comes in handy.

And even under the canopy you still hit the ground around 15mph - more than enough to smash your brains if you don't PLF/pratfall correctly.

IDK about yal but when it comes to weather I just go into Metar-taf.com and plug in the weather stations by hand. Doesn't take but like 5 minutes. I don't see the purpose of buying or relying on the weather engine
