no one wants to hear that when summer just began 😞

  • I'm quite happy with 2020 in its current state, however once 2024 is mature enough and all the complaining and whining settles down, it is then that I will get on board.

I will almost certainly move to 2024 on day 1 and once the system requirements are a published I will begin the research for a new PC. One of the biggest advancements I appreciate about MSFS is that you do not need the highest end computer to run it, unlike the P3D days when I would need to save up a small fortune for a PC and then spend hours adjusting settings and, wait for it, the affinity mask!   My nearly 5 year old setup -- a 10700 and 3070 -- has been adequate to run the simulator well for my needs, with good visuals and very few performance issues, like stutters.

I also do not expect any revolutionary advancements, it will be a set of incremental improvements to the experience, but ones I will appreciate.

MSFS 2024. Primary Planes: Black Square TBM850, Duke, Baron, Caravan; A2A Comanche; FSReborn Phenom; Fexix A321; PMDG 737-7, 777: Utilities: Active Sky (Passive Mode); BATC, FSLTL.

I hope we will be able to import our controller settings to the new game, because that's not something I want to do all over again.

I'm not too worried about the Community folder. I have one of the Best Addons for MSFS in "Addons Linker" with close to 800GB of addons located on another drive. I am sure I will be able to continue in the same manner with MSFS2024.

I think it's "Cloud" based, shouldn't it be seamless? I have lost my Profiles and all I needed to do while in game, was unplug all my controllers...plug them back in and everything was back to normal.

Exactly!

Your post should be pinned!

April-June 2025 for me, unless miracle happens and all my add-ones from MSFS2020 will be available immediately with MSFS2024.

9950X3D, X870E ROG CROSSHAIR HERO, Corsair Dominator Titanium 64GB DDR5-6000 PC5-48000, ASUS RTX 5070Ti 16GB, 9100 PRO 4TB Samsung ,990 PRO 4TB Samsung,  AX1600i 1600 Watt 80 Plus Titanium ATX, ASUS 360 ARGB EXTREME 360mm Liquid CPU Cooling Kit.

this 4TB NVMe was recommended Toms Hardware. I paid $190 back in September. CamelCamelCamel.com allows setting up a "price watch" on anything sold on Amazon. They email you the minute the price hits your specified "target". I think a higher spec memory won't help performance in Direct X games hardly worth mentioning, and this has worked perfect.

All I plan to do is zip up all my addons and move them as backups to another drive as MS will not allow me to move anything in or out of my community folder in any other way.  My 2 TB drive with MSFS2020 will then be wiped to use it to install MSFS2024 onto and I will then move all my addons back and unzip them as required.  No doubt all of my controllers will need to be set up again and recalibrated for the new sim.

Many of us have had all of our addons on a different drive for years, which with Addon Linker works beautifully. I see no reason not to do it this way, as it solves all kinds of problems that may appear when you store hundreds of addons in Community on the same drive with MSFS.

Plan ?/ Buy another 4tb ssd, download 2024 on launch, and fly!  2020 still kept on another ssd for the first few months.

AMD Ryzen 7 5800x3d, MSI X570 Pro, 32 gb DDR4 3600 ram, Gigabyte 6800 16gb GPU, 1x 2tb Samsung  NvMe , 1x 2tb Sabrent NvME, 1x Crucial 4tb Nvme M2 Drive

I'll worry about it when it happens.

My FS2020 installation is only occupying 976MB of the 2TB SSD dedicated to MSFS.

MSFS 2020 is located in an "MSFS" top level folder, so I'm just going to install MSFS 2024 in a new top level "MSFS2024" folder. It's supposedly got a smaller local footprint, so I'm thinking that this will work fine.

At a later date, and once I have fully switched over to MSFS 2024, I will uninstall MSFS 2020.

i9-10850K, ASUS TUF GAMING Z490-PLUS (WI-FI), 32GB G.SKILL DDR4-3603 / PC4-28800, GIGABYTE RTX5080 16GB WF OC 3 FAN running 3440x1440

I haven't had time to keep up with all the details. Have we learned whether it will run on Windows 10 yet? I'd rather not have to do a VR headset upgrade at the same time as the sim upgrade.

Ryzen 7 7800X3D/B650 X AX | 5090 | 32gig | Win10 | Pimax Crystal Light

I was going to upgrade my computer in anticipation, but after thinking about it, probably best just to wait.

Hard to predict the price of components, but assuming tariffs don't become an issue, the RTX 4090 should continue to drop in price (I'm running a 2080 Ti Founders Edition).  And of course the 5080/5090 will probably hit end of year or earlier.

One thing I did do however is get  a larger M.2 drive - 4 TB to replace my 1 TB drive.  I was pretty shocked that 1 TB wasn't enough for MSFS and some other games (I have a lot of mods - freeware and payware), but I ran out of space.  4 TB will be hard to fill and very easy to move that drive to a new computer.
