A miracle ? LSFG (Lossless Scaling Frame Generation)

With all due respect, Cpt, thats incredible performance. So with the Lossless app you are getting double that amount?

Even triple if I want. But x2 works best as I can set my TVs refresh rate to 60Hz, then lock FG-FPS to 30. Less screen tearing that way.

    I just upgraded my 3080ti to a 40 series for $6.99 lol.

  • Ok @David Roch I really thought this was going to be the latest "double your FPS" scam out there but I am literally in disbelief.  Thank you for bringing this to my attention.  I decided to give it

  • A little offtopic here but this software works wonders in xplane 12 too. From 40fps to 100fps with all settings maxed out at 4k. It's pure magic. I am speechless honestly.

Ok, I stand corrected. This means this app is even better than first thought. After all that has gone on before (hours of testing, notably by yourself) with the other mods this has become a breath of fresh air for 99% of the users.

Is anyone using this with trackIR and getting terrible input lag ?

I am using a 4090 here with a 12700K and absolutely feel this is a better combination than my G-Sync compatible monitor with native FG.  It is a trade off.  There are some artifacts however the tradeoff of total fluidity is a welcome tradeoff.

As mentioned earlier, most of my flights are with add-on airports that are VERY hard on performance.  My "home" airport is DD KEWR which combined with 250 AI aircraft in the region and any level of detail rapidly became a stuttering slideshow.  That was TLOD 200 OLOD 100.  Now I am TLOD 300 and OLOD 200 with complete fluidity.

So yes, even with a 4090 there are absolutely places I see benefit.  Even at altitude AI seems smoother, contrails are drawn better , wakes on ships are more defined and you can see the wake being shaped behind the ship, reflections look better and things like wing flex animation is significantly smoother.

Sadly I can not reproduce the good feedback on my end. i5 13600K with 4080, 4K monitor. Compared to basic nVIDIA FG, the image seems to be indeed smoother, but at a cost. Moving the drone around results in the already mentioned rubber-banding, unbearable for me. And the artifacts using 2x or 3x are just extreme, guys with high AI traffic load, go and check the windows on your AI planes when approaching them or when they move along you, ridiculous. Then, the input lag is remarkable, it is like pulling the mouse through honey.

Not yet conviced, but it could easily be due to the fact that I did not yet find the correct setup for my build. Tried NVCP limit of 30, 47 (due to my 144Hz monitor) and 60, as well as 141. The rubberbanding only appears when FPS are limited above 30, but with 30 and FG on, the sim reduces the calculated FPS down to 15 and artefacts are huge and very prominent. Regarding artefacts, also this tool seems to profit from higher FPS (surprise, surprise) and when baseline FPS are around 40, artefacts are limited mostly to the windows of the AI plane (or user plane, e.g. using a Fenix or PMDG).

First verdict: nice tool if you do not own a 4000 series card or if you have the settings correct. To me, the massive input lag alone is bothering me quiet significantly.

I think the input lag + artifacts are going to be highly dependant on the eye of the beholder - as with anything related to image quality etc. Like mentioned in the post above yours, some of us think it's a worthwhile tradeoff when the result is smooth xx FPS at major hubs with very high AI traffic settings. I'm thrilled to have 60 FPS at JFK with 300+ aircraft around me.

For some reason, I don't think the artifacts or the input lag are intolerable. My biggest issue has been tearing due to the lack of G-Sync.

Not sure about this - but maybe input lag & artifacts are related to a combination of settings.

You do not get this "rubber-banding" when moving around at higher speeds, e.g. the drone at 200 or when panning around fast? This is really annoying to me. And I thought you also get 60FPS with FG only... Can you quickly share your LSFG settings and what you put in NVCP?

I saw input lag when Lossless was set to 1/2 refresh rate.  Are you running 1/2 refresh rate in lossless?

Just to say the lag in lossless is nothing compared to the lag in Avsim right now..  It is ~2 minutes to save a post LOL

Technical aspects such as smoothness and graphics play a key role in both cases, helping to create the best possible experience.

I  am also using the 12700K with the 4090 and have noticed significant performance gains on complex scenes, especially with lots of AI and high levels of detail.

When panning around fast I guess... I need to keep an eye out for that.

Fenix, JFK, 4:30PM, ASFS live weather:

  • No AI traffic = 90 FG-FPS
  • AIG with 50% traffic = 60 FG-FPS
  • AIG with 100% traffic = 46 FG-FPS
  • Lossless scaling with 100% traffic = 119 FPS

I discussed my settings in this video from yesterday. It'll be interesting to know if you can see the artifacts that you mentioned, as I really tried to induce artifacts in various ways. Since then I've changed the settings a bit to adjust for the lack of G-Sync (basically x2 instead of x3).

Current settings:

  • FG+DX12 enabled in MSFS
  • FPS locked to 30 with RTSS in front edge sync
  • V-Sync on + ultra low latency in Nvidia control panel (not sure if it's needed when G-Sync is not working)
  • Monitor refresh rate 60Hz (native is 120Hz)
  • V-Sync off in sim and in Lossless app
  • Target FPS in AutoFPS set to 28, IFR mode with TLOD min 100 below 1000ft

Unrelated: Avsim is really slow since the servers were down. I can't see avatar pictures and can't like any posts. It's like it hasn't recovered fully...

I do not see this option in LSFG? Anyway, still playing around and with Cpt_Piett settings, both artefacts and rubber-banding are minimized, rubber-banding is completely gone. I think I will get there, still have to see if this input lag bothers me or not (this is also reduced when using 2x only btw.). Not going to tinker with my monitor refresh rate though, as I do not only use my rig for MSFS.

@Cpt_Piett what does the MSFS engine do when using this RTSS frame limit? Does it render 30 FPS and doubles it to 60 due to FG? Because if I set a 30FPS limit in NVCP, MSFS will render only at 15FPS to end up with the 30FPS limit (as indicated when using Dev Mode FPS overlay). But your numbers indicate, that you also do not achieve 30FPS on heavy scenarios, dont you? "46 FG-FPS" tells me, that you only get 23FPS on KJFK with 100% AI traffic, correct? So what does your 30FPS limit then do?

Greetings, Chris

Can't you achieve that with standard FG and Auto FPS as well?

Short answer: absolutely not. Reason being that mainthread is completely hammered by all the traffic, resulting in average FPS of 38. Which I could live with in a way, but it's also a stuttery mess. My CPU is just not up to the task.

Another thing that adds fuel to the fire, is that recently I've done quite a few shared cockpit sessions with VoxATC. The last flight was from iniBuilds JFK to KBOS. I didn't realize I had traffic at 100% - the stutters were unbearable. In addition to my normal addons, I was running YourControls and streaming on Discord. Bit of a fringe scenario, but it's in situations like these that Lossless might be the saviour.
