I know this because I've used some of those 'skillz' myself 🙄

Great use of language there Ron. You painted a vivid picture... 🤣

Guess I'm not alone. Always tend to get a bit worried when there's an update I don't expect. First thing I did was to close the window, then check Avsim 😅

  • Slightly naive to think that todays issues with MSFS2020 magically disappear with MSFS2024... in all those years I played sequels on PC, at least 50% of the bugs and issues were «reproduced» in sequel

Amen to this. Reinstalling MSFS should be the next-to-last resort for solving problems, the last one being reinstalling Windows.

Well in my case I have no choice but to reinstall if I want to keep using the sim I just want to get the best procedure to do this sorted out.

Bruce.  I had to reinstall back in 2022 and found a great step-by-step message.  Don't recall if it was here or at the official MSFS forums.  I thought I had it archived in a Word file or saved email but darn if I can find it tonight.  It involved more than completing a Windows Programs uninstall and subsequent stray files removal.  Still looking.

Search for Clean Intall rather than uninstall.

As I understand it, you are having to reinstall MSFS every time there is a system update -- or at least you believe this to be the case -- correct? I am no expert, but clearly there is something very wrong here. No way an update should cause MSFS to uninstall! I defer to others who  can hopefully offer some constructive suggestions on this.

No I have never had this problem before this is a first - my MSFS2020 files are all there but the Xbox app and the MS Store indicate that MSFS2020 Premium edition is purchased but not downloaded.  This happened just after the latest update when I also got the insufficient bandwidth error.  My concern now what folders/files to remove or keep so that I can reinstall.  Ideally I want to keep my Community and Official folders so I don't have to download 100s of gigabytes of stuff.

I also have CTDs since the last update, never had before 😕 wondering if I will also have to reinstall it

Andy - what CPU do you use?

It's a long shot, but the 14th gen Intel CPUs are failing a lot (possibly also some 13th gen) - even on Intel's default settings and usually after a few weeks of use. I have got through 2 in the space of about 10 weeks.

Take it from me: this can cause all sorts of unexpected behaviour in the PC - including random crashes to desktop and BSODs - and generally no end of chaos for users who naturally blame everything else when things go wrong, before suspecting something as fundamental as the CPU.

That excludes the Gen 13/14 curse. I'm not aware of any similar issues with the AMD kit.

Sorry it's such a pain to sort these things out 😖

14900ks, RTX4090, 64Gb@6000-30-36-36-T2, Samsung 990Pro 2Tb , Dell G3223Q 32" 4k Gsync + 27" secondary monitor.

Things I noticed this morning after yesterday's CTD (Fenix with Offical Livery) -

When I loaded into the flight at LGAV, the aircraft was at the gate but there was no gate, in fact there was no airport. Slowly but surely objects began to spawn, such as people walking through the air in an invisible building, before the whole terminal appeared. It took about 25 seconds for the full scene to complete.

No sound for the GSX procedures, just messages in top left of screen.

After pushback, the button on my quadrant would not release the brakes (it had worked not 4 minutes before on release at the gate), so I had to do it manually, no biggie but I thought it was odd.

When taxiing I noticed the brakes or steering wouldn't work, luckily I was on a straight taxiway and after a couple of pushes they gripped again and steering returned. Once again, odd.

On takeoff I lost all controls of the pedals as the plane veered off the runway in a crosswind just prior to V1, never recovered, end of flight.

None of this has happened before. GSX is up to date (3.0.5) and yesterday's update to the sim was normal in terms of how it downloaded. I don't believe in coincidences this large so something is really wrong behind the scenes.

I love the sim but I have serious doubts after SU15 and these recent server issues, with nothing at all of merit on their forums in terms of feedback to the user bar a poll which less than 1000 people have voted in. There are genuine issues for lots of users going back 3 or 4 months right around the time of the beta release such as performance hits over northern Europe, update malfunctions, server malfunctions, in-game anomalies, broken loading screens etc. and of course SU15 not providing the promised changes. This is not a healthy experience for lots of users or a healthy environment to build on when a large release is on the horizon. It feels like neglect and I know that's a strong word, but it feels this way. I had better performance on my 1660 super 2 years ago than I do now and I've invested in a new CPU, upgraded RAM and a new GPU. Without these recent 3rd party apps or mods over the last 6 months I'd be lucky to get 20fps. How on earth can this be? Those with high end 4000 series cards have had their share of issues but at least they can get a decent area of performance relative to those on "lesser" cards. Recently people have been accused of "obtuseness" for expressing concerns and doubts about this sim and the future one, which only mirrors the offical line, "people will always complain about something, everyone else is ok, nothing to see here." That attitude reeks of snobbery.

I never ask for much and I'm as easy going as they come but I'm on holidays and I just want to fly a plane after months of nonsense. Today was the straw and I feel 100% conviction in my opinion of Asobo and the upcoming sim. I have decades of gaming experience and first hand contact with multiple console developers and I've never encountered an environment this volatile or lackadaisical. I've done over 1500hrs in this sim and enjoyed every minute but it's rank at the moment, especially knowing these are such complex issues to identify and resolve and the chance of a quick fix is non-existent. In order to get some decent immersion when flying commercial aircraft you now need around eight 3rd party add-ons, both payware and open source which itself puts the sim at risk with conflicts, it's a vicious cycle and it shouldn't be this way but this is the road Asobo have us on. For all their immense work there is also a really bad taste.

If somebody has experienced any of the above and can point out something I've done wrong then I'll hold my hand up but right now the proof is most certainly in the pudding.

3 straight CTDs for me just now.  Can't remember the last CTD, must have been years ago.  One loading in the Fenix, second during sim load in (blue bar at bottom), third about five minutes after loading in Fenix.  This is after the latest update.  I've been in SU15 beta since beginning and have had no issues up until this latest update which is strange because it is just a normal airac update as far as I can tell.

Yes I've experienced issues you've mentioned. Successful C&D PMDG 737-800 starts at  gate 7 Belfast Aldergrove ,over the past couple have been fine, but now the aircraft is parked on the grass. Stuck nosewheel steering on pushback, but fine on runway start. At Manchester, scenery was like a desert.     Sometimes ,nearing cruise alt...CTD. I've had msfs since the launch in Aug 2020, and there were issues, but I decided to stick with it due to GA and ORBX  flights being great. Due to non related issues, I hadn't been simming regularly until I got my new pc a couple of months ago...and not much fun since.

I had considered getting 2024 when it is launched, but there have been problems, not for everyone, with 2020 which haven't been resolved.

It is issues like these that make many of us less than enamored with 2024. Same team. Same problems.
