June 18, 20241 yr I installed the update, got the "Caribean World Update" Screen (wasn't that released in January of this year?), and then the sim crashed. Twice. Not too bothered, since I don't sim in the summer, and by the time I'm back MSFS 2024 will have hit the stores. MSFS 2020 has run its course. Time for new kid!
June 18, 20241 yr Slightly naive to think that todays issues with MSFS2020 magically disappear with MSFS2024... in all those years I played sequels on PC, at least 50% of the bugs and issues were «reproduced» in sequels. Especially issues related to server connection etc... Greetings, Chris AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D, 2x32GB DDR5 6000MT/s RAM, MSI RTX 4090 Ventus 3X, Windows 11 Home, MSFS2024

Reinstalling MSFS should be the next-to-last resort for solving problems, the last one being reinstalling Windows.
June 18, 20241 yr Well even though MS Store and the Xbox app indicate I don't have MSFS2020 installed all my MSFS2020 files remain where they have always been nothing appears to have been deleted or changed. It is very late now so I will just have to trouble shoot this in the morning. Bruce Bruce Bartlett Frodo: "I wish none of this had happened." When there is an issue, I look on forums, where sometimes "reinstall" is the suggested solution. I am in my 80's and have the sim as a retirement hobby, but I don't have the computing skills that the majority of simmers have. andy a
June 18, 20241 yr Andy, I will respectfully suggest that your success following a 4th reinstall of MSFS (if I understand you correctly) is coincidental. It's hard to imagine what the fourth reinstall could have done, that would work after the first three failed. I've been at this a long time, and never had a problem with MSFS solved by reinstalling (though I don't doubt that it could happen in some circumstances).
June 18, 20241 yr After re-installing recently due to problem that turned out to be hardware related, I now keep a regular backup of my 'packages' folder on a spare drive. I'll be updating it before installing the new update tonight. I use robocopy to mirror the source and destination folders so it doesn't take too long after the first pass. if you aren't familiar with the 'robocopy' command the syntax is: robocopy <source> <destination> /mir E.g., on my system I use: robocopy "d:\msfs\packages" "f:\packages backup" /mir If the packages folder has been damaged by an update, an uninstallation, or while trying to fix a problem, you can reverse the source and destination folders to restore the packages folder. I would do this at the point the sim asks you to download the mandatory content (close the sim.) Thank you very much for your kind reply, and I have taken on board your point on reinstallation. My thinking was that perhaps something had gone wrong with the download. The pc which I bought a couple of months ago, exclusively for MSFS, is high spec, with 2 ssd totalling 3TB, and an Nvidia Ge Force RTX 4090. OS Windows 11. I thought therefore, possibly wrongly, that the problem must be with MSFS. The SU15 really caused problems ,where, I, and a lot of others, had weird graphics, and couldn't access OPTIONS on the Sim. Kind regards Andy andy a

Kind regards Andy Andy - what CPU do you use? It's a long shot, but the 14th gen Intel CPUs are failing a lot (possibly also some 13th gen) - even on Intel's default settings and usually after a few weeks of use. I have got through 2 in the space of about 10 weeks. Take it from me: this can cause all sorts of unexpected behaviour in the PC - including random crashes to desktop and BSODs - and generally no end of chaos for users who naturally blame everything else when things go wrong, before suspecting something as fundamental as the CPU. 14900ks, RTX4090, 64Gb@6000-30-36-36-T2, Samsung 990Pro 2Tb , Dell G3223Q 32" 4k Gsync + 27" secondary monitor. June 18, 20241 yr Small update this morning my first ever CTD this afternoon on a flight I have done over 100 times... Hoping it's a coincidence I'm on an I-7 12700K though, I don't think they are impacted like the I-9's... Have a Wonderful Day -Paul Solk
June 18, 20241 yr CTD here also. After installing the recent small update, I now get CTDs whenever starting FS2020. My symptoms are that the "Checking for updates" screen is displayed for an inordinately long time, then FS2020 begins loading normally then CTDs. What is the proper proceedure to diagnose and report such a failure? Thanks for any advice, RobertR Edited June 18, 20241 yr by RobertRent typos

'Computing skills', they're the skills necessary to create most of the cock-ups in Flight simming since 1876.
