FSElite asks about "missions" and Jorg immediately shuts this down by saying, "I do not think of them as missions as much as I think of them as authentic aviation activities". This is something the media needs to get right because they are adding to a lot of the misconceptions spreading around the internet. MS is going for a proper career mode and not just one-off missions!

Water physics actually matter now. For instance, if you don't take wave height into consideration when landing your sea plane, you can easily crash.

DX12 is now the default graphics API.

Tornadoes are still in BUT they are consigned to the career mode for now due to how difficult it is to predict them. (Fully enough, he slipped and said "mission system" that time haha.

Historical weather will be post launch

Every aircraft in the sim can create wake turbulence, whether AI, multiplayer users, etc. The longest Seb has observed it lasting is 6 mins so that wasn't a set limit. It dissipates naturally based on physics calculations.

The inclusion of the proper flight planning and charts was spearheaded by Jorg. Gotta love the guy.

Another important answer is about the tornadoes. They aren't from liveweather, Jörg said there's no real live data available for those.

Hmm, about the historical weather question and answer.

havnt we had already a confirmation that asobo understood that 24h is fine, and not weather from x years ago?

They will have an open beta a few weeks prior to lauch. Just to test the servers. I will be joining it for sure. LOL

  • Aviation activities: they're striving for authenticity and working with the IRL pros in each of the aviation fields .. also simulating new physics due to these aviation activities
  • Seasons: many different biomes that adapt to seasons like IRL, a lot of work went into ground foliage too (everything will adapt to seasons like trees-foliage/grass/plants/crops/etc and also things like wetness on the ground, etc)
  • Ground 3D objects impacts landings and taxiing too, like rocks, grass, etc
  • All the digital twin earth improvements now improves the bush flying experience a lot, to fly and land anywhere
  • Water physics properly simulated, waves and their heights will impact take-offs and landings (i.e. sometime you'll have to slow down and let a wave pass by then accelerate, etc)
  • Ray tracing: very important especially in the cockpit, all forms of shadows now perfect based on incoming and surrounding light and distances of those sources of lights
  • DX12: Will be the default, they're heavily optimizing and debugging and improving it
  • Weather:
    • historical weather won't be there at launch, they're working with two data providers to implement in the sim post-launch
    • atmospheric lighting now like IRL based on proper calculations (also in an earlier Q&A Seb mentioned how this new system is based on real-time calculations of integrals and also offloaded to GPU)
    • improved cloud definitions (due to new atmospherics engine, every pixel of cloud gets its own calculation for what the light/color should be based on physics so the overall effect is close to how they look IRL)
    • cirrus cloud types added
    • working on turbulence improvements
    • other small improvements
    • tornadoes will be simulated but only in manual weather and missions system (since hard to get data for those for live weather)
  • Wake turbulence simulated for aircraft including AI (in a sense this requires keeping history of the CFD based airflow for the aircraft, longest Seb has observed where it has an impact is 6 minutes)
  • 737 MAX: biggest team they've assembled on an aircraft, striving for highest level of fidelity in systems, uses new CFD aerodynamics and more detailed surfaces in the FM
  • They want to keep stressing on "for the community, from the community" principle
  • There are 10+ more partnerships not announced yet, so more to come

This is an interesting point. I wonder if it will compel PMDG to release the 737 MAX as soon as possible, i.e. (well) before MSFS 2024 hits, because a good default MAX in MSFS 2024 might cause them to lose sales.

I haven't heard anything about changing visibility. Is this included in the new weather engine? I really miss this aspect of the weather.

I’m definitely holding off on the PMDG’s Max until see some more from Microsobo.

I think you‘re not alone. I on the other hand would jump directly on the first MAX I can get my hands on. I bet PMDG is not amused about this news. Should have released the MAX earlier. 😂

Maybe they will price it lower to secure sales at $34.99 same as the -600, no brainer.  At $79.99, maybe wait and see what Asobo delivers.

Hoping they put some work into the download/installation process.  Currently it takes me roughly 4 days to download MSFS2020.  I play several other games similar in size and don't have this issue with any other platform than MSFS.

Rather than trying to cosplay a moderator, maybe try to apply for the role with the staff here (hint: you ain't gonna become one).

Depends on your closest server. I can redownload the entire sim with in a day
