#1 Reason why I get discouraged using MSFS...

I usually just go make food, or browse the web while waiting for it to load.

I usually read the avsim forum on my laptop and threads like " #1 reason why I get discouraged using MSFS" while MSFS is loading. By the time I have LittleNavmap, Skyvector up and running and checked latest real weather, co-pilot has pulled out the aircraft from the hangar and "we have lift off".

I always have to read Avsim every day, so I know what is currently wrong with MSFS.  😉

GSX is the main culprit for long load times.

It's almost 75,000 files

I guess MSFS is going through a lot more files than that, but it performs more efficiently than most 1-man 3rd party developers can do. keyword: multi threaded asynchronous loading. and that's on all 8 cores.

FS 2 (in an APPLE II emulator) loads even faster than x-plane 12.

no word not allowed... did you expect loading 64KB max, and on an emulator that pretty much does it instantly, would be slower..?

some ppl...

The two add-ons that add minutes to load times for me are AI Traffic & GSX Pro.

Without the above load time to the menu is about 2 minutes.

With the FSLTL fleet enabled it jumps to 3 and a half minutes.

When I load with GSX Pro, it's about 6 minutes.

I use the add-on linker to speed up load & to disable what I do not need for a flight. When I need to load everything, I do some flight planning while the sim is loading. So it's not that BIG of a deal. I'm more discouraged by AI airline traffic flying over me on final. 😀

MSFS 2020, what an amazing sim!

It DOES load considerably quicker than driving to the airstrip, doing a walk around and starting that group share plane that nobody could be bothered to service. 😏

So you know, a sim flight is an event not a quick angry birds game so loading is the perfect time to read a few pages of a random wna manual 📖😎

Concerning the loading times, please keep in mind that there exist a bug/incompatibility in MSFS with some sceneries which will cause a very long loading time. It doesn't depend on how many addons you have, it just depends on how many addons suffer from that bug.

The only example I have in mind is the freeware scenery for Lake Hood in Anchorage Talkeetna PAKT, which alone made my loading time jump from 1:30 minutes to 6 minutes. The author even explains it in the description of the addon in the .to website. It's the only example I know but I suppose there are other sceneries suffering from the same bug.

Talkeetna is PATK. Ketchikan is PAKT. I'm not sure which you have.

ooooh what a lucky man, he was.

"mine is 10:22"

I suggest exchanging your hard disk ?  for an SSD or NVMe, that would cut your loading time in half or less. but then you wouldn't make it even to the first cup of coffee. priorities.

I have Orbx PAKT and PATK by Northern Sky (sold on Orbx). I don't see that they slow down loading.
