  • Ah yes the old chestnut of loading times, anyone old enough to remember games on tapes? 40 minutes to load then it'd crash within a minute, 3 minutes loading today is nothing compared to that hell 😄

  • Fortunately that changes with MSFS 2024. Seems they are going away from the long consistency check and only loading what is needed. That should cut down loading times significantly, especially when yo

  • I always have to read Avsim every day, so I know what is currently wrong with MSFS.  😉

Concerning the loading times, please keep in mind that there exist a bug/incompatibility in MSFS with some sceneries which will cause a very long loading time. It doesn't depend on how many addons you have, it just depends on how many addons suffer from that bug.

The only example I have in mind is the freeware scenery for Lake Hood in Anchorage Talkeetna PAKT, which alone made my loading time jump from 1:30 minutes to 6 minutes. The author even explains it in the description of the addon in the .to website. It's the only example I know but I suppose there are other sceneries suffering from the same bug.

I recall seeing such expressions of hope and expectations during the run up to 2020. The trouble is the spectre of server efficiency hang over it.

God! I'm in a miserable mood this morning! 🙄

The initial load time is not server dependant, that's mostly a local consistency check and pre-cache of the files you have in your folders, among other things. There's no need for it to take that long. So any hopes and expectations of fast loading times with MSFS 2020 was just that; hopes and expectations. I don't think Asobo promised anyone that it would be blazing fast.

They have specifically said in the MSFS2024 conferences that they are doing away with all that, only loading the files you needed during initial load, thus improving load times. That was one of the key points of MSFS 2024. They are completely overhauling the client to become a thin client.

Never really timed it. By the time I get all the othe software up and running and simbrief loaded it's usually ready or close to it.

I do not have any European scenery loaded for lack of space.

I wonder if that helps as someone told me lately it takes him like 6 minutes to load his up.

MSFS 2024 -Too many airplanes to name. Too many airports to name.

166GB , loading time 2 3/4 minutes. Acceptable.

The problem with talking about load times is that what is 'acceptable' for one, may not be for another.  So I think it is almost pointless, though I think we can all agree on wanting it to be quicker at least.

I usually just go make food, or browse the web while waiting for it to load.

Just load the sim and go do something else for a few minutes.  I have almost 2000 addons lol (mostly freeware or liveries) and it definitely takes a while even with addon linker but it's not a huge issue if I just do something else while it loads

Community folder with 434GB

Sim loads in 3:30(including about 45secs checking for updates)

2TB Samsung NVME 980Pro.

My average load time is 1:50 - my Community folder average right now is around 120 MB.

Correction: that's about 2:50 (clumsy typing)

I use AddonsLinker to only load what I need for the flight and the area I'll be flying in.  A big difference is probably that I'm not using any traffic add-ons and only have a few custom airports, etc.  When I start working with traffic in the future I'm sure my load times will change

I'm sitting at the main title screen by 4 minutes tops...and loading flights in complex airliners and big scenery sitting in the cockpit by 2 minutes tops.

Initial load of a new heavy complex airliner addon is a little longer of course.
