Hardware: i7-8700k, GTX 1070-ti, 32GB ram, NVMe/SSD drives with lots of free space.
Software: latest Windows 10 Pro, P3Dv4.5+, FSX Steam, and lots of addons (100+ mostly Orbx stuff).

  • Ah yes the old chestnut of loading times, anyone old enough to remember games on tapes? 40 minutes to load then it'd crash within a minute, 3 minutes loading today is nothing compared to that hell 😄

Fortunately that changes with MSFS 2024. Seems they are going away from the long consistency check and only loading what is needed. That should cut down loading times significantly, especially when you got a lot of things installed.

Great.  I see no reason why they can't have a quick loading front-end where you select your aircraft, location, and weather etc.  And even while the user is doing that, they could have common or necessary items loading in the background.

How loooooooong load times?

Missing the PMDG DC6 in MSFS 2024 (she's here, but...).

In my case it is 6:20

My sim is without world updates, city updates, challenges and all redundant stuff.

I have only 3 planes installed, and few minor addons like We Love VFR, Pushback Toolbar etc.

I have 25 GB in my community folder. My not so new PC takes about 2 min to bring up the MSFS selection screen.

AMD 7 7700X, 32GB DDR5, RTX 5060ti 16GB, 2 x Samsung 1TB NVMe, 1 x 4TB sata SSD, Windows 11 Prof

O well, my load time is 4 minutes 28 seconds. Size of my community folder: 750 GB. Everything is installed. Not bad i think.....

If i adjust addonlinker into regions, loading times will drop a lot. That's for sure!

About the same configuration here: 3 minutes.

For me that is OK, time to make a cup of  coffee or get a glass of water... 🙂

Oh and I just restarted the sim... now 1m58sec.

If I had a dollar for each problem thread for MSFS 2020 where someone replies "but this will be fixed in MSFS 2024..."

LOL, you are so right!

I have nvme SSDs and MSFS 2020 loads acceptably fast. Not as fast as X-Plane 12 but that's because I only use default scenery with X-Plane and practically no plugins, while in MSFS we have ultra detailed scenery even by default and pretty much everywhere in the World, not to mention the AI traffic of all sorts...

In an older physical disk it's always going to take longer ...
