  • If you have SSD drives : never defrag !  I have updated several pc's to windows 11 just by running the windows update. Never had a problem.

  • This kind of tweaking and tinkering is just a reminder of FSX and FS9 days and it really isn't necessary. Just install FS24, done.

  • Correct : never defrag an SSD

I still have P3D v3 and P3D v5 on my PC taking up space on their separate SSD's.  I keep thinking maybe I will fly them but it never happens and will not happen so will need to clear those drives and make space for 2024.  Not going to consider a new PC, which I really need at this point, until I see what the performance is like and which hardware makes the most sense.

I've just realised my preparation is to cram a month's worth of play outta Star Wars Outlaws which releases this week, then dive back into Starfield for its DLC release end of September before MSFS2024 hits mid November!

Seriously though I may look into a fresh install off Win11 late September, but it's not really necessary so I might just give it a clean & tidy up instead.

No need for a lot of faffing!

1. Make sure you have enough room on your disk (hopefully an SSD), or else delete it if not needed, or move it to other storage if you want to keep it.
2. Install MSFS2024.

Done!

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Hi,

My PC can play MSFS24 (or I think so...). I have a RTX 2080 Super and Intel i9-9900K. I have limited the FPS to 40 with Nvidia Panel, but with great populated areas or big airports the FPS drop to 12 or 13 and stutters begin.

I'll buy MSFS24, not the first day, of course, and then I'll wait to see how things are going before to update my rig.

Greetings.

I clean the inside of mine about every 4 months.

I would change my RTX 2080 to a RTX 4070 TI Super if you not would to go to a bigger card, thats a great card for an acceptable price - the 2080 is not anymore enough and keep in mind MSFS 2024 is coming and this uses for shure more power than MSFS 2020 even if the predictions are that it will run like the MSFS 2020 - I don't believe that, that would simply not be logical..

cheers 😉

  • Cleanup and backup C drive files to another drive
  • Uninstall unused programs
  • Backup FS2020 Community folder
  • Completely uninstall FS2020
  • Install Windows 11 and latest drivers, bios etc

If your are installing a fresh Windows 11 I would skip cleaning up and uninstalling stuff. Just wipe the harddrive and install Windows 11 from USB.
I would also prefer installing 24H2 right away instead of first installing an older built and then upgrading.

But since I am planning a complete new build once the 9800x3d and Nvidia 5080/90 are available so I probably won't bother at all and just install MSFS2024 right alongside MSFS2020 until then.

No plans at the monment other than wait and see if the performance improvements they mention actually transpire. My PC specs are below, and no where near the faster hardware nowadays, but it's running 2020 fine, if i find i need to upgrade i'll likely wait until the latest CPU's and GPU's drop , there's always a bargain to be had on hardware just over the year old.

I still fly P3Dv3 so as I can fly the MAAM B-25, Howard 500, and few others.

Did a lot of updates to the Milton's Howard from info from the Howard foundation.
