Preparing for FS2024

Featured Replies

I was a Beta tester for FS2020. But not going to this time.  But I am already making the plans for FS2024.  The latest Win 11 24H2 is reported to give some solid boosts for Ryzen CPU's.  It is finally time for Win 11 !

  • Cleanup and backup C drive files to another drive
  • Uninstall unused programs
  • Backup FS2020 Community folder
  • Completely uninstall FS2020
  • Install Windows 11 and latest drivers, bios etc
  • Disk defrag
  • Install Win 11 24H2 update and tweaks etc, including chris titus tweaks
  • Install FS2024
  • Then it begins!
  • New Nvidia GPU a bit later

  • If you have SSD drives : never defrag !  I have updated several pc's to windows 11 just by running the windows update. Never had a problem.

  • This kind of tweaking and tinkering is just a reminder of FSX and FS9 days and it really isn't necessary. Just install FS24, done.

  • Correct : never defrag an SSD

Wait a while, and see...

Greetings

I haven’t really followed the updates about 2024 as close as many of you… Will our cloud profiles port over so we wouldn’t need to bind controllers again?

Unless you want to shorten the life of your SSD.

When I recently told my wife that I wanted to spend about £1500 on a new GPU later this year, I was pleasently surprised at her positive reaction. So I'm planning on getting someting like a 5090 when released, but I may as well push her further and try and get a full new rig, I'm now planning on also getting a 9800X3D when they come out which means I also need a new motherboard and 64GB of RAM other components like M.2 Nvme's will transfer over from my old Rig. Anyhow that's how I'm planning on preparing for MSFS 2024, probably not needed, but hey Flight Simming is my main hobby, so why not?

AMD 9800X3D,  NZXT X73 RGB AIO COOLER, Gigabyte X870 Aorus Elite WIFI7, 64GB 6000MHZ RAM, 4TB Samsung Pro NVME, 4 TB Crucial P3+ NVME, 4TB Crucial SSD, Gigabyte Gaming OC Geforce RTX5090, Antec C8 ARGB Case, X55 JOYSTICK/THROTTLES, LG 4K C4 42" TV/Monitor 120 Hz, 2 Dell 1080 monitors. Honeycomb Alpha Yoke, Bravo Throttle. Thrustmaster TPR Pedals. Moza AB6 FFB Joystick, Pimax Crystal Light VR, Tobii Eye tracker, Steelseries Arctis 7+ Wireless Headphones.

I just upgraded my Pc, can't wait for release and put new hardware to work. I may upgrade vid card to a Nvidia 4080 in future also.

Go with a 50 series card (coming soon).  Nvidia are known for disabling features on older cards.

They're not gonna disable raster or frame gen performance so it doesn't really matter. Also is there any proof of this on RTX or GTX series cards?

Do note that you can't really defrag an SSD in this day and age. Most software, including Windows' own function will detect the fact that it's an SSD and just run the SSD trim function.
