Still not able to "save" filters so I just have a cheat sheet anytime I need to re-create them. Do you know if GeForce still comes with latest drivers or must one use that new app they have? Eric
August 31, 20241 yr I subscribe to this topic, if you are able to give a more realistic look to the simulator in a simple way I will buy it, I don't really like the cartoon look that the simulator has by default.
August 31, 20241 yr I'm interested. The biggest issue I see with regards to environment in MSFS is lighting. Currently the entire sim is far to yellow of a color temperature. Grass looks really fake most of the time, and things that are green is far too green/yellow. The skies look too yellow most of the time. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
August 31, 20241 yr Commercial Member This program does not utilize an SDK, and we do not need to wait for a SDK for 2024 to implement functions. Edited August 31, 20241 yr by Reed Stough
August 31, 20241 yr I will admit there is some potential for this if it changes filters between morning/day/dusk/night depending on the time in the sim. Because you cant do that with nvidia filters without manually changing it. Going to need to see videos and a price. But imo 2024 already looks like it holds some improvement to color grading, so id be hesitant to buy it just based off that. Edited August 31, 20241 yr by Frostbitexp
August 31, 20241 yr Commercial Member Also, one of the biggest requests we have received since the release of 2020, was the unrealistic clouds. Though this program does way more than just improve the clouds, it allows the user to improve the immersion of the clouds sky and terrain. Similar to what we used to do with textures but without textures now.
August 31, 20241 yr My guess is that they're modifying or replacing shaders in some way. My reasoning: a) I'm not aware of anything in the SDK that would allow you to achieve these kinds of effects, and b) the "true Rayleigh scattering" they refer to implies a change that isn't possible to achieve with a post-processing approach like ReShade or Nvidia Freestyle. This would also explain why they're confident they can port to MSFS 2024 without having seen the SDK -- MSFS 2024 will definitely use shaders of some sort for the atmospheric effects, and those can then likewise be modified or replaced. The big questions in my mind are: How much will MSFS 2024 improve upon the current atmospheric effects, and will that render a product like REX Atmos obsolete? And how good will REX Atmos be in the first place? As far as I can see, the website shows just a single screenshot so far, which isn't much to go on.

The timing , with MSFS 2024 just around the corner, is a little bit late, unless it will work with MSFS 2024 too.. Yeah, that would frustrating if it didn't work with 2024. However, the Nvidia filters (even with the new app they make you install) work rather well IMO. August 31, 20241 yr Will this require Sky Force, or will it work on its own with default MSFS, Active Sky, etc.? The "After" pic in the example mentions working in conjunction with Sky Force...

August 31, 20241 yr I can't believe the level of disrespect toward a veteran developer that some members are showing. Those guys are a great part of our community and deserve respect. They can release what they want, when they want to. I'm surprised that they even bother to come here to be ridiculed. It's too bad that I don't have the power to ban. This is an add-on for MSFS. Nothing more, nothing less. Let's be adults. Edited August 31, 20241 yr by CFIJose MSFS

I have been using the Nvidia filters for a couple years and my sim looks great. I only use 3 filters. The new sim is launching in less than 3 months and we know at a minimum the lighting is being improved so this might be a tough sell at this point in time. I also recall the similar program they introduced in P3D that manipulated shaders (Environment Force) for similar effects was a nightmare that caused me to reinstall P3D numerous times and had to give up trying to use it... August 31, 20241 yr I've promised myself not to buy any more addons until MSFS2024. Having said that, this product looks a bit interesting. I'm currently using nvidia filters, with different settings for HDR and SDR. I guess this REX Atmos could make it easier though tuning the visuals. I'm certainly not going to go down the ReShade rabbit hole again... Edited August 31, 20241 yr by Cpt_Piett 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 64GB DDR5

To answer your question though, it's compatible with everything, including default real weather, weather engines, weather presets, custom weather and saved flights. @Flic1 it's not even the same, safe and non-destructive.
