Where is the setting for turbulence, are you talking about MSFS2020 setting or something else?

Yes, in MSFS.

All settings are at max realistic on my system. At times the turbulence is a bit overdone. If you are ahead of the aircraft, it is not a problem providing you are ready to correct. Currently preparing

I forgot all about this and finally turned it up the other day.

Makes QUITE the difference, particularly near mountains.

I kinda like it 😁

As I fly in Florida I find 'Realistic' pretty much is what I get in the real world.  Over trees on approach is exactly what I get on short final.  One example is many times in the real world I land long to get over the trees to avoid the updrafts they cause.  That's exactly what the sim simulates.  Turbulence changes daily and in the confines of the sim can be very subjective per person.  Anything lower than 'Realistic' in the sim doesn't work for me.😎

'Turn-Slip' needs an adjustment option.🧐

Huh, don't seem to have the same experience for my realistic setting, just sometimes throws me but seldom. I do have FSRealistic running with it maybe calms it down??

Run at Realistic, tried with and without Activesky in passive mode, also using realturb. Still not enough to replicate reality... and yes even when there is turbulence it could be simulated better, but so could quite a few other things (cough..cough clouds). But the sim is the best we have, and have ever had so I'm not complaining.

Fly the heavies? Lean towards realistic.

Fly the light stuff? Stay way from realistic (because it simply isn't).

Fly in a very windy area (near or in mountains), especially with an ultra-light airframe? Stay away from realistic.

Remember that in the sim we have to see the effect of turbulence. Flying a real aircraft you feel the G force before your eyes even perceive the pitch- or roll change. Thus the Realistic setting simply cannot be with a desktop simulator.

I fly mostly airliners so realistic works for me. When i do occasionally fly the Comanche i do notice a little more action but im ok with it (its not tossing me out of the sky).

Thanks for all the replies!

I see merit in most of them, but I can't see going back to "Low".

I've been bounced around enough IRL due to turbulence - particularly on summer afternoons, that even tho we can only have an exaggerated visual effect (natch), I'll take it.

I think it feels unrealistic because of the way its implemented, like the camera is stuck moving around with the plane. In the A2A commanche with VR settings, the camera is detached from the plane so the movements feels much more realistic.. Scott at A2A reccomends the realistic setting for the commanche, and it doest feel exagurated at all. Think A2A has the best turbulence simulation compared to other default planes and payware..

Infact its so good that I cant fly anything else in VR without getting motion sickness…. Spot on A2A

Medium for me, and even that is too sudden sometimes.  Sure, you can still control the sim aircraft with realistic, but it's just dumb.  Doesn't feel anything like being in an airplane.  "Realistic" is way overdone for everything from a Cub to airliners.  Thankfully they gave us a way to turn it down to more believable levels, but it's still something that needs work in 24.

Realistic turbulence for me because it reflects the real airplane behavior, especially at take off and landing. There are a lot of real cockpit videos where you can see a not so smoother pilot esperience. I think that Asobo have to adjust their real weather and the way how the winds work, not that ridicolous turbulence setting.

Missing the PMDG DC6 in MSFS 2024 (she's here, but...).

Replies above and below yours all say realistic based on their real world flying.  So many complete opposite views.

We have to give great weight to @Stearmandriver's IRL experience, too 🤙

It's subjective for sure, but about this, all I can think is that people are being subconsciously influenced by the name "realistic"... As intended, probably.  Because I mean, airplanes simply don't get tossed around like that in afternoon thermals or mechanical turb from 10kts of wind.  I think part of it might be that they're using exaggerated effects because the sim is purely visual.  If you were actually in an airplane getting tossed like that, it would feel an awful lot more violent than just looking at it on a screen.  You can see this if you use a tool to display vertical acceleration (g) in some of this turbulence... No one is routinely experiencing 2 or 3g on a normal afternoon.  Your average non-aerobatic GA pilot (to say nothing of passengers) wouldn't like that at all. 😉

I really don't know if the weather engine or the flight model are to blame...
