MSFS 2024 Global Preview Mega Thread

Featured Replies

I think the 'framerate' issues in a couple of the preview videos is due to the video capture being bad, as I've seen other preview videos where the framerate is completely fine. Everyone there for the preview event probably had their own capture equipment - some better than others.

Everything looks great.  You're not going to get media doing more in-depth looks at the nitty gritty of the simulation and whatnot until closer to release I reckon, as an event like this isn't really conducive to more than just some notes on how things looked and felt.  You don't have hours to just fiddle around and test things.

The 'career' stuff I can already tell is going to spawn another 4+ years of tedious commentary about how it's a game and not a sim.

Great first look at everything.  The Q&A on the 25th will probably be our first info dump of more detailed, simulation focused information and demonstrations.

From the heavily moderated live chat but a large chunk are pre-asked as they've stated and as discussed elsewhere 😉

You don't give 4 different interviews each to 100 people when you're "avoiding big questions."

That's a ridiculous notion.

AFP has some bad weather flying in his video @1:44 (don't watch this video if you lack a sense of humour, or just mute it)

You can see some turbulence effects, as the aircraft rocks with out his input.

That's not the case. The capture was done with Ninja Inferno capture cards pre-attached to each rig. These are among the best you can get (and very expensive), but they are pretty beat up, because they've traveled to every major gaming event for the past several years.

That being said, performance was not perfect regardless of screen capture, but it was a build that was already old at the time of the preview event, because it was stable (I didn't see a single crash). That's normal with preview events done months before a release.

Ok can you please point me to the interviews - THAT I MAY OF MISSED - where they talk in detail about ATC and Live Weather improvements? Thanks mate you're a star 👍

Mine below has live weather improvements. Someone in the thread mentioned another (I don't know which one) in which they said that improvements to ATC will come down the line because of all the changes to live traffic and such.

The fact that they gave so many interviews means they're open to pretty much any questions.

I haven't heard of relevant "no comment" answers and no one has been told "please don't ask about X or Y"

Everyone has asked whatever they wanted, and if something has not been tackled, it simply means no one asked.

Well, this was literally their very first public event to build interest.

Do you think that perhaps they may be releasing more information as time goes by? I'm sure all this will be covered in more detail as we get closer to the release date.

And if they don't talk about the things you are interested in before it releases, all will be revealed on Nov 19th when it is available for anyone to download and play - you don't even need to buy it, you can just get Gamepass Ultimate for 14 days for $1 and try it out.

Bit harsh to say they are avoiding stuff when this was the very first public preview for some streamers..

Maybe no one asked about live weather improvements? At least I dont' remember that specific question in the ones I've seen or read so far. I see in some of these articles/videos topics of storms and cells and wind shear coming up and how that such bad weather impacts the aircraft as it should now (vs in 2020).

Do you have any examples of interviewer questions being asked about ATC or live weather during interviews at this preview event where MS/Asobo "avoided" them?

If MS/Asobo didn't specifically dive into the live weather or ATC topic in the presentation they gave to these media folks, that doesn't mean they are "avoiding" it of course. I don't believe MS/Asobo presentation was actually recorded by any one, and perhaps they weren't allowed to (Abriael or Sergio can maybe confirm?).

Seb talking about 24 hour historical weather here https://youtu.be/Sx4XyyJrhhM?t=809, hopefully that serves the needs of a bulk of folks who were in need of this feature given the actual time of day they're able to use the sim. And good that it's there in the core/default sim!

I've seen/read about enhancements in turbulence and wind shear in stormy weather that might make it sub-optimal to fly in these areas. Hopefully, it'll be confirmed by solid evidence soon.

New computer components will be going on my Christmas wishlist.

'Ideal spec' is actually the base spec if running a complex airliner, into detailed scenery, with some AI traffic, and wanting to keep TLOD at 200.

You don’t need 64GB of RAM, that’s just absurd for them to put that out there. Vast majority don’t have that.

I agree. I've never seen total RAM usage above 32GB

Yeah this is a much needed and wanted feature! Now I can finally fly in the evening East Coast time, but set the sim to daylight and get actual daytime weather!

This is going to be interesting to see how this plays out. Also thought it very interesting that the 7900x vs the 7800x3d was recommended. I am wondering those like myself that have been using the x3d very well in MS2020 will now suffer because of the multi-thread optimization in MS2024? The x3d I don’t think does very well in that environment. Could be in for a rude awakening….
