September 19, 20241 yr A lot of articles and videos to chew on and these are just the first batch based on this day event, hopefully just the start of more info and details to come, especially on the MS/Asobo livestreams and the deep dive "feature" videos to come. Apart from the amazing advancements in the twin earth realization within the sim, and visuals, and also the new aviation missions/career system (all of which speak for themselves and indeed it's effectively the best "world simulator" that I know of).. but apart from all that, these are some quotes and points that have stood out for me so far when it comes to core flight simulation: due to the aviation activities extra physics were needed that then benefit core simulation too .. i.e. banner flying adds weight and drag to the flight experience, heli cargo lifting will be affected by prop wash, soft body physics (down to the detail where just observing the pitot ribbons will give a sense of wind direction 🙂), etc ground way more detailed now (4000x) and impacts landing/take-off and taxiing (part of the overall ground handling/physics improvements) all ground terrain collisions are fully 3D modelled in high resolution whatever ground handling I've seen in the in-sim videos these folks put out look pretty darn good to me, i.e. how the draco-x was landed in rough terrain and how it bounced and flexed and came to a stop, similarly the cessna on a normal runway, the cub landing on soft sand, etc (we already know about the MSFS 2020 SU15 ground handling improvements that was implemented by the likes of iniBuilds A300 improved the situation a lot, but 2024 looks even better) aircraft and flight model development: greatly increased flexibility in surface and wing design, and ability to define them in a much more fine-grained way, with each of those tiny surfaces receiving individual aerodynamic simulation wings, tails, fuselage, and multiples of them (as opposed to current FM geometry model of two wings, etc) all the physics calculations now are also efficiently multi-threaded to make use of all CPU cores possible IMO the key here will be when and how the 3rd party devs will take advantage of the new tech/physics and development tools to update their aircraft another question is how much Asobo/iniBuilds/etc have done to take advantage of the new flight dynamics tech in the MSFS 2024 default aircraft simulation of ground effect and engine/prop wash simulation of wake turbulence, and this turbulence will interact with atmospheric airflow and weather (i.e. so wake turbulence dissipates naturally based on weather and atmospheric conditions, so in a parallel runway airport wake turbulence from aircraft on one runway could be pushed to the other runway by a cross wind) major upgrades in lighting: every light source in world has IRL physics-based intensities measured in lumens and accurately rendered (from the sun all the way down to street lights), so night lighting also improved atmospheric lighting reworked (as we already knew), cloud lighting more realistic in conjunction with revamped atmospheric engine (i.e. based on position of sun and what the light is travelling thru i.e. atmospheric moisture, cloud layers, etc will all impact the light intensity/color as IRL) much thinner client, greater reliance on cloud, install footprint greatly reduced, all world updates and marketplace aircraft are streamed rather than stored on disk "most realistic and deepest default avionics and systems ever in any sim" (one of the reviewer's quotes, but not a surprise given what we've seen in MSFS 2020) default advanced efb and flight planner with many features, can visualize 3d flight path in sim, etc The Asobo/WT 737 Max's flight model is impressing folks, i.e: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZyMNAr6cGiM&t=364s simulation of proper storms and cells, wind shear, etc and impacts on the flying new cloud types like cirrus helicopters: specialized engineers brought into work on turbines, governors, transmission ... autopilot ... etc (Sergio Costa's article is the go-to for viewpoints from that perspective: https://www.helisimmer.com/articles/hands-on-msfs2024-global-preview-event) water physics, impacts of current water/waves conditions on float planes and takeoff/landing distances, etc small details like mud accumulation on the big rubber tires of a bush plane, and more than just a visual effect could also impact handling Edited September 19, 20241 yr by lwt1971 Len 1980s: Sublogic FS II on C64 ---> 1990s: Flight Unlimited I/II, MSFS 95/98 ---> 2000s/2010s: FS/X, P3D, XP ---> 2020+: MSFS Current system: i9 13900K, RTX 4090, 64GB DDR5 4800 RAM, 4TB NVMe SSD
September 19, 20241 yr Miltech are the ones making the C17, the only real livery they got permission to include by default is the RCAF one. Which is weird, considering Asobo have USAF liveries for the A10 and Super Hornet Edited September 19, 20241 yr by Tuskin38

There are some pretty good alternatives to MSFS ATC now. I have not thank you for pointing those out to me! I will check them out.
September 19, 20241 yr A couple of things I am wondering early doors... - Will my FSHud or BATC work early on? - I've seen nice night lighting close up. But will we have those sepia blobs of distant cities you get in FS2020?

I have BeyondATC. $30 USD was a pretty reasonable price - it's a one time purchase, you don't have to pay anymore, provided you don't use the premium voices (IMO, the free voices sound just fine). You can speak to ATC through your microphone, it's great! I was on VATSIM before, but BeyondATC is much better if you are a casual simmer, because you can take your time, and if you get things wrong, you're only speaking to a computer and not with a real person. BeyondATC is also getting AI traffic, although they have to work out the bugs. But eventually, everyone who owns BeyondATC will be able to use AI traffic with it. SayIntentions.AI requires a monthly subscription, so it's more expensive in the long run. But because SayIntentions.AI runs on ChatGPT, it allows for more variation and flexibility when you speak to ATC. i5-12400, RTX 3060 Ti, 32 GB RAM

I've been a simmer for over 3 decades, a beta tester for over 2, I love tinkering with sim, and I'd enjoy supporting the developers (even "big bad" Microsoft). Yeah. And I am struggling with the cost metrics on the Premium version. I am only really interested in the 787 or the Saab, but not $60 worth. If a pricier version had the Embraer Ejets, I'd splash for that no problem. I do keep detailed metrics on what I fly, and it's the Fenix by a long a shot. After that it's the 737 and A306 in second and third. In terms of ROI, the T7 isn't making the cut. But I enjoy flying it a lot so I am glad I have it. For now at least, I think I am going to stick with the base pack and maybe get something like the AvroRJ.
September 19, 20241 yr Author It seems XP72's video had a glitch. CptCanada was over San Diego in the MAX and it was smooth as eggs 5800X3D. 32 GB RAM. 1TB SATA SSD. 3TB HDD. RX 9070XT.

September 19, 20241 yr Been looking into the Aviator Edition further, and in case it helps anyone, I am fairly certain the 30 aircraft that will be included are as follows: Famous Flyer 9: Douglas C-47D Skytrain & Waco CG-4A Famous Flyer 8: Cessna T207A Famous Flyer 7: Mitsubishi Heavy Industries MU-2 Famous Flyer 6: Ford 4-AT Trimotor Famous Flyer 5: Antonov An-2 Famous Flyer 4: Antonov An-225 Mriya Famous Flyer 3: Beechcraft Bonanza V35 Famous Flyer 2: Gee Bee Model Z and Model R-2 Super Sportster Famous Flyer 1: Beechcraft Model 17 Staggerwing Local Legend 19: Focke-Wulf Fw 200 Condor Local Legend 18: Westland Scout & Wasp Set Local Legend 17: Curtiss C-46 Commando Local Legend 16: Short SC.7 Skyvan Local Legend 15: Dornier Do 31 Local Legend 14: Bell 47J Ranger Local Legend 13: SAAB B 17A Local Legend 12: Dornier Do X Flying Boat Local Legend 11: Aero Vodochody Ae-45 and Ae-145 Local Legend 10: Boeing 307 Stratoliner Local Legend 9: Latécoère 631 Local Legend 8: de Havilland DHC-4 Caribou Local Legend 7: Cessna 195 Businessliner Local Legend 6: Junkers F 13 Local Legend 5: Beechcraft Model 18 Local Legend 4: Savoia-Marchetti S.55 Local Legend 3: Dornier Do J Wal Local Legend 2: Fokker F.VII Local Legend 1: Junkers JU-52 Expert Series 1: ATR 42-600 and 72-600 Famous Flyer 10: Boeing 707-320C The 707 is yet to be released of course, but unless Microsoft are planning to publish another aircraft before MSFS2024 releases (which seems unlikely), it's needed to bring us to the 30 aircraft they're promising for this edition. I already own the ATR & An-225 separately, not really sure if I care enough about the others to justify the price premium myself. Most likely going to get Premium Deluxe, as there's several aircraft there I'm much more interested in. 7800X3D | RTX 4090 | ASUS TUF GAMING X670E-PLUS WIFI | 32GB 6000MHz CL30 DDR5

MSFS 2020 runs amazingly well in DX11 mode on my PC, but I suspect that MSFS 2024 will struggle Did you also notice the RAM spec. 32 GB is now "recommended" with _64_ being "ideal". September 19, 20241 yr the Max has a modelled Cabin. I wonder if the 747 and 787 will get ones as well
September 19, 20241 yr Watched this review and it seems like the PG and default airports look the same. Massive disappointment because I really don't care about career modes and missions, I was hoping the default airports using AI would be updated. Also PG looks the same as MSFS2020.
