They're integrating an improved version of Fabio Merlo's replay addon into 2024, it was shown off at FSExpo 2024 a few months ago

ATC improvements and shared cockpit are going to be post-launch.

  • A lot of articles and videos to chew on and these are just the first batch based on this day event, hopefully just the start of more info and details to come, especially on the MS/Asobo livestreams an

  • I am not sure what I am thinking about the FS24. It is a FLIGHT Simulator, we need realistic weather, realistic clouds etc. not elephants on the ground. Sorry

Miltech are the ones making the C17, the only real livery they got permission to include by default is the RCAF one.

Which is weird, considering Asobo have USAF liveries for the A10 and Super Hornet

Huh - I was assuming that'd be another DC Designs job, or that the Destroyer freeware got picked up.

In any case, I'm stoked for the C-17. Be nice to see how it stacks up against the A400 by iB.

Been looking into the Aviator Edition further, and in case it helps anyone, I am fairly certain the 30 aircraft that will be included are as follows:

  1. Famous Flyer 9: Douglas C-47D Skytrain & Waco CG-4A

  2. Famous Flyer 8: Cessna T207A

  3. Famous Flyer 7: Mitsubishi Heavy Industries MU-2

  4. Famous Flyer 6: Ford 4-AT Trimotor

  5. Famous Flyer 5: Antonov An-2

  6. Famous Flyer 4: Antonov An-225 Mriya

  7. Famous Flyer 3: Beechcraft Bonanza V35

  8. Famous Flyer 2: Gee Bee Model Z and Model R-2 Super Sportster

  9. Famous Flyer 1: Beechcraft Model 17 Staggerwing

  10. Local Legend 19: Focke-Wulf Fw 200 Condor

  11. Local Legend 18: Westland Scout & Wasp Set

  12. Local Legend 17: Curtiss C-46 Commando

  13. Local Legend 16: Short SC.7 Skyvan

  14. Local Legend 15: Dornier Do 31

  15. Local Legend 14: Bell 47J Ranger

  16. Local Legend 13: SAAB B 17A

  17. Local Legend 12: Dornier Do X Flying Boat

  18. Local Legend 11: Aero Vodochody Ae-45 and Ae-145

  19. Local Legend 10: Boeing 307 Stratoliner

  20. Local Legend 9: Latécoère 631

  21. Local Legend 8: de Havilland DHC-4 Caribou

  22. Local Legend 7: Cessna 195 Businessliner

  23. Local Legend 6: Junkers F 13

  24. Local Legend 5: Beechcraft Model 18

  25. Local Legend 4: Savoia-Marchetti S.55

  26. Local Legend 3: Dornier Do J Wal

  27. Local Legend 2: Fokker F.VII

  28. Local Legend 1: Junkers JU-52

  29. Expert Series 1: ATR 42-600 and 72-600

  30. Famous Flyer 10: Boeing 707-320C

The 707 is yet to be released of course, but unless Microsoft are planning to publish another aircraft before MSFS2024 releases (which seems unlikely), it's needed to bring us to the 30 aircraft they're promising for this edition.

I already own the ATR & An-225 separately, not really sure if I care enough about the others to justify the price premium myself. Most likely going to get Premium Deluxe, as there's several aircraft there I'm much more interested in.

Thanks for this.

I have premium deluxe and have been intending to get some of these with the 33% discount, but always put it off.

So for me, I guess, that makes Aviator a No Brainer purchase.

You know what is weird, there are two special version of the 747-400 but not the standard pax of cargo variant.

Might that be to allow PMDG provide those models?

I don't think so - they've been pretty ruthless in making add-ons that step all over 3PD add-ons.

Just wanted to post this because I've noticed it's still a thing... "pop-in" still seems to exist in 2024, even at close range which is a bit disappointing. I know, I know... this is not a released product yet, but still. Image below showing this on AirforceProud95. You can clearly see it in the video at 1m42s

Gaming rig

64GB Trident Z 6400MHz DDR5 - Gigabyte 4090 GAMING OC 24G
10 x 120mm Lian Li UNI fans - Lian Li OD11XL Case - Corsair HX1500i PSU

As always keep in mind that any of the extra aircraft in the higher tier editions can get fidelity improvements in ongoing update releases like we got with the 787, Citation, SR22, etc by Asobo/WT for MSFS 2020. So as MSFS 2024 matures the higher tier packages really start to show their bang for the buck.

Interesting discussions with these dev groups who're either part of the Asobo core team or work in partnership with them, and to hear their perspectives. Given these partner devs already have had insider access to the MSFS 2024 SDK to build out their stuff, the SDK itself is getting some good real world testing and major kinks being worked out before it it's generally available for all devs.

Maybe this is related to why they upped the RAM “ideal” requirement from 32 to 64GB?

This is going to be interesting to see how this plays out. Also thought it very interesting that the 7900x vs the 7800x3d was recommended. I am wondering those like myself that have been using the x3d very well in MS2020 will now suffer because of the multi-thread optimization in MS2024? The x3d I don’t think does very well in that environment. Could be in for a rude awakening….

It seems that the X3D CPUs are the most useful for MSFS due to their fast cache. I’ve got the 7950XRD with the asymmetric chiplet configuration. Still, MSFS prefers the “cache” cores instead of the “frequency” cores. Hence, the 7800X3D is still probably one of the best CPUs for the sim.

I've noticed this in other clips with the 737—buildings popping up and melted PG. The ground textures look awful too, though that might be due to the settings. I really hope we're seeing an early beta build because, based on the previews, I’m starting to get nervous that the team might have overpromised.

It's most likely the ideal spec for 4K flying with max settings. No way you're going to hit 32GB flying in 1080.

Wouldn’t like to be a shareholder in any of the current sales platforms. This is gonna drive so much more traffic to the marketplace.

That is a significant win, but you're forgetting the drawbacks of buying from Marketplace:

  • Delays in availability of add-on updates (approval process before hosting new files)
  • Encryption of/inability to modify key files in products to customise to taste
  • Issues with product configuration (no helper app permitted)
  • Charging for all items hosted, e.g. aeroplane liveries that are free elsewhere
  • Problems in recognition of payment between Marketplace and Steam.

Fulcrum One yoke; Thrustmaster TCA Captain Pack Airbus edition; MFG Crosswind rudder pedals; miniCockpit FCU; CPFlight MCP 737; Logitech FIP x3; TrackIR

I know this is very interesting to most but I'm going to disconnect from 2024, I'm not going to make the mistake of 2020. I will continue to enjoy my simulators and in a few months I will investigate if this is really worth it considering what I personally look for in a simulator, happy hype train to anyone who sticks around.

- Shadows: Of course we knew about raytracing in the cockpit, but is it global? So far I don’t think I’ve seen any of the screen spaced shadow problems in water reflections of terrain…?

Unfortunately no, this particular issue is still there so looks like global reflections are screen space...
