MSFS 2024 Global Preview Mega Thread

I just hope there will be a switch to turn off all these things that I have no interest in, like fauna and stuff. Happy for an evolution of our dear sim and a new version with all these bells and whistles and new shinny things, but after being in this hobby and gaming for the past 23 years, I am not expecting much.

Just started my side job on the A320 simulator as a guide and instructor and these guys still use P3D though.

This is to simulate you, the user!
Having many options results in pilot characters that are not generic but reflecting your real person better.
Unless you think a generic chap in the cockpit would represent you better, this is all about simulating the reality and not about gaming!

Agreed 100%. I'm hoping that third parties will be able to add to the options, with such things as 1940s - style Bakelite headphones for flying in vintage aircraft such as the DC-3, DH Rapide and all those big flying boats.

Surely not everybody was kung fu fighting.

There's a reason for that. A simple one is that p3d remains the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. So expensive training material does not need to be revised every few weeks when the simulator has a mandatory update and works different.

I DO like the IDEA of an 'aviator' edition though. It won't be what I would love though: A barebones simulation ONLY session where you can boot FAST to a simple flight setup screen (ala p3d /fsx /xplane). No unnecessary extras like jobs, challenges, missions, careers, etc. Just FLIGHT.

Yes I'd pay extra, twice as much in fact, to have HALF as much content that I will never use loaded at launch.

You can turn it off in 2020, so woukd be odd if you can’t in 2024

this could've easily of been released as a DLC Update for extra cost, or part of a massive Sim Update Special but what we've got is a new product to boost their income,  it's no different than a yearly FIFA/EA Sports game only there's a bigger gap between the two releases.

The devs said on several occasions that that‘s not possible because of the new data streaming architecture. The engine may be still the same with some improvements, but the way the sim loads data is very different.

One of the most annoying multiplayer/VATSIM bugs in 2020, is disappearing undercarriages of AI aircraft within relative close proximity of your own aircraft.  I hope this doesn't happen anymore in 2024.  Seeing aircraft float by on the taxiway is just 'eyerollingly' stupid.

A bit like the half rendered terrain elevation mesh in some areas. Classic examples of this are the island of Tsougkriaki on the approach to runway 01 at LGSK Skiathos, that central narrow section that connects both parts of the island of Sark (Channel Islands), Ailsa Craig (south of the Isle of Arran in Scotland), the islets of Es Vedra and Isla de Es Vedranell off the south western tip of Ibiza, and an end section of the cliffs just northwest of EGPB Sumburgh airport (Shetland Isles). It is extremely annoying to see sections of what should be elevated terrain being rendered totally flat until I am almost on top of them, and (in some cases) autogen trees floating in the air (an indication of where the edge of the mesh should be located).

I really hope that this issue is resolved in MSFS 2024.

This is an extremely different piece of software, including features and the whole UI. It 100% feels like a new game.

It certainly feels more like a completely new game than X-Plane 12 compared to 11, Prepar3d 6 compared to 5, and so forth. And not just a little more.

By your logic, literally every new iteration of any sim franchise should be a DLC.

I'm surprised to see 'Ideal' RAM at 64GB. In all my years of flying heavily modded MSFS, never seen it even use up 32GB. So either the engine is doing something differently or they are just creating a very, very wide 'buffer zone' for the most extreme scenarios.

I belive 32GB RAM is still enough but with 64GB you in all cases on the save side - what ever that means..

cheers 😉

You have no idea whatsoever if that's actually true, beyond the basic concept that anything could be an "update" as long as you're willing to overwrite basically everything. And this is not even to mention the actual business side of it, and whether it would make any sense for Asobo or Microsoft given the hundreds of people they have working on Flight Sim.

They weren't going to completely rewrite the entire underlying codebase for a new iteration, because it would be completely unnecessary and horrendously inefficient. Having a "new" system doesn't mean they threw the entire existing codebase in the trash and rewrote it from scratch. Software development doesn't work like that.

No by my logic this could've been a DLC upgrade (i never mentioned other sims that's on you), as pointed out by the guy above there's more reasons why it isn't which is fine by me.

FYI changing the UI is something devs do all the time in regular updates for other simulations, let alone DLC or a new game!

I never said it was true, i was having an opinion on what I've witnessed before in the gaming industry.

Funny how people like to jump on essentially pointless topics and force their opinion on others when there's so much else to discuss 🙄

Let's get back on topic eh!?
