MSFS 2024 looks good, but...

If the numbers are so high/close/accurate to the real ones, that should reflect in perfect aircraft behavior. It's not. I hope that you at least agree with that

Having tested FS2024, I can agree that I'm much more inclined to believe Sebastian Wloch's word than yours.

  • Not even released yet, and the complaining already starts.

  • Did we really need another thread for more questions?  It's not like there aren't enough FS2024 threads already including a 23 page release thread with questions...

It seems 2024 will continue to use screenspace reflections which is something I was hoping was going to be resolved with the new release. I really hate flying along a river or coastline and the reflections from the shore are broken by the likes of the cockpit pillars or wings. Breaks the immersion for me.

Although I can see what you describe, I don't really agree with it 'breaking the immersion'.  Is it really necessary to stare at cockpit pillars in flight to see this effect?  With so much graphical beauty in 2024, I rather feel the 99% of the view that looks so good would mitigate a small glitch like this.

this is the case of some people focus on whats wrong others on what is good.

i am always surprised how easily some seem to break their immersion, which is totally a mindthing.

Does it have a better offline mode than FS2020?

Considering that they moved the majority of the data into the cloud the answer is a big: NO.

It will have an even worse offline mode. You will not even have POI's without it, because the data for them will no longer be stored localy.

The issue for me is, especially in VR, flying low level GA and enjoying the scenery but you quickly notice things that don't look correct and it's then hard to unseen it. It is very much scenario dependent though and I guess everyone has their own limits to how much this affects them.

Ryzen 9800X3D, RTX 5090, 64GB, Win 11. MSFS2020. Moza, MFG, Fulcrum & Virpil controllers. Quest 3 for VR.

MSFS 2024 looks good, but... "Then I'll get on my knees and pray we don't get fooled again"

5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB  PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.

All this nitpicking:p. Dunno but im still enjoying FS2020 with all its faults and imperfections more than any sim I had previously. If FS 2024 was not announced I could still enjoy 2020 for atleast 5 more years, because I think its the best out there. Can it be better, offcourse it can always be better but it will never be perfect.

Im just grateful microsoft came back into this niche hobby and brought it back to the mainstream, and releases a new improved one just four years later. They brought back innovation to a very stagnated genre and have no plans yet to stop. It a great time to be a simmer:)

No they are separate sims and can co-exist. MS/Asobo plans to support MSFS 2020 at least for a few more years if not longer. And MSFS 2020 will also continue to get fixes and some improvements even (backported from 2024)

Just to verify.

Was MSFS2020 supposed to run for 10 years?

Yep in VR it can be an immersion breaker no doubt about it, usually when flying low over a lake with mountains either side you're constantly seeing this issue in the window frames, can't avoid it.

Pico Neo3 Link VR - Windows 11 64bit, Gigabyte Z590 Aorus Elite Mobo, i7-10700KF CPU, Gigabyte RX 9070 XT OC 16gb (AMD GPU), 32gig Corsair 3600mhz RAM, SSD x2 + M.2 SSD 1tb x1

Saitek X45 HOTAS - Saitek Pro Rudder Pedals - Logitech Flight Yoke - Homemade 3 Button & 8-directional Joystick Box, SNES Controller (used as a Button Box - Additional USB Numpad (used as a Button Box)

It's going to continue on for some amount of time. I don't think anyone knows the exact time, but measured in years can be expected.

The 10 years everyone always quotes was jorg throwing out a random number as a way to explain that they will be dedicated for a significant amount of time, but he explained multiple times right after that quote that it was an example of a timeframe to make a point, not an exact timeframe being promised.

Editing to add that jorg said in one of this week's interviews on YouTube that the cloud-based tech for 2024 was just something they feel is unavoidable at this point, but that at least 2020 is still available to people who are unlucky enough to not have Internet service that's up to snuff for the new sim.

Stop staring at the window frames and concentrate on what is good?  I can see what you refer to, but it is a small part of the overall fantastic view - if it was such an 'immersion breaker' how come you still use the product?

Who said I was staring at the window frames!? It's there in your peripheral vision in certain scenarios as described already. Have you used VR? probably not judging by your overzealous comment! What an immersion breaker is to one person might not be to others, there's plenty in MSFS2020 and yet I continue to thoroughly enjoy it, same as I see immersion breaking issues in racing sims but I still thoroughly enjoy them. So get some perspective and accept that just because you don't see it as immersion breaking, others might yeah!?

It was a 10 year plan. Since they had success, they are moving on to 2024, but 2020 support will continue. 2024 will not be for every simmer. I have a feeling most serious simmers will try it out on day one.
