September 21, 20241 yr Steam for me as well. They are simply far more accustomed and used to dealing with MUCH larger releases. The big thing as well was that of all of the update and install issues that I've read in the forums about MSFS 2020 over the past 4 years or whatever since release day, the vast majority seemed to be from MS Store users and I'm fairly certain that the ratio of MS Store to Steam users isn't as diverse as many would think. i7-13700KF, 32gb DDR4 3200, RTX 4080, Win 11, MSFS 2024
September 21, 20241 yr Steam, hands down. Cheers, Pete Pete Solov - Lake in the Hills 3CK and Schaumburg Regional 06CProud AOPA Member - PPL 2001Real World Piper Cherokee Pilot

The only thing you download from steam are updates to stuff outside of the sim. All the in-application downloads still come from the same servers as the MS Store version. So if the servers poop themselves on launch day it will effect both versions equally. Edited September 21, 20241 yr by Tuskin38

It's a conundrum for me as I continue to consider an Xbox X as a backup to my gaming rig (had an expensive failure early this year), but most of my content is either external store or Steam. Even so, given the quality of the base sim, I could "get by" with just the native content no problem, esp with the new stuff coming to v24

True, but Steam seemed to have far less issues from day 1 installs right up to every update since. Not to mention the ridiculous install and other folder locations that MS Store users had to put up with. The bigger percentage of my money goes to Microsoft, the more of it will be reinvested in the simulator, the better for me. Bill Gates loves you! September 22, 20241 yr I was one who bought directly from MS, then later ran into intractable problems with updates... Bought another copy thru Steam and haven't had an issue since. That's just a sample of one, and completely unscientific, but ... The thing is, tho, that I have a small handful of add-ons purchased thru Steam and I'm loathe to re-purchase them just to switch back to a native MS store purchase.
September 22, 20241 yr Probably MS Store as I have a few marketplace addons. 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 64GB DDR5
September 22, 20241 yr The only thing I don;t like about Steam is because you purchase credits (that's fine) but I cannot for the life of me find any receipts of what I have purchased with the credits, just a history list of credit amounts. Unless someone can point out where I am missing ?? I'm sure it has to be me. The credits are then used to claim the item. Edited September 22, 20241 yr by Tuskin38
September 22, 20241 yr I will go with the store version. I installed 2020 in december of that year and although updates were sometimes a pain I never reinstalled and had no problem at all. I would prefer to install 2024 next to 2020 on the same drive. I9-14900K, Gigabyte B760 Aorus Elite AX, RTX 4080, 32 ram.1 tb nvme M.2 SSD, MSFS 2020 on 2 tb nvme m.2 SSD

But I'd rather be loved by Bill Gates than by Gabe Newell, mind you, considering that the company Gates founded is making my favorite simulator, while the company Newell founded has been refusing to make the games I'd like them to make for almost two decades.
