The original stream died, that's why. The twitch one also went dead at the same time.

I guess they're having tech issues.

"got some feedback"

There is an understatement.

AAU3 on 10/1

ATR Update on 10/10

I head to a meeting in 10 min so I'll update until then.

I'm a bit disappointed they are spending time talking about anything else but 2024.

I hear this Dev Stream is using the exact same improved servers FS2024 will be implementing. <jk>

This part, though, I am interested in. The mentioned the last stream that AAu3 would ship "mid-September" and that was the end of that.

The ATR update is a little long though.

I would be all ears, but not today. LOL

We've been waiting to hear more about 2024 for so long and Hans talks too slow. LOL

ATR is getting a moving map. still uses the default MSFS airport textures, but it will show parking spots and such.

LOL, get used to it. MSFS 2020 is supported for a long time to come. But I hear ya. Kind of 'old news'. Oh wait, they're just starting about MSFS 2024 😁

Recommended spec is 1440p, ideal is 4k
I missed what Minimum was, I assume 1080p

2024 PC version now has adaptive graphics quality option like consoles do automatically. You set a FPS limit and it will try and adjust settings to to get you to that frame rate. Seb says it's useful for VR.

Notes so far:

  • There will be other Q&A livestreams for MSFS 2024 leading up to release
  • 5000 collectors edition units
  • MSFS 2020:
    • AAU3: ready to go into certification for Oct 1 (updates to ini A310, ini A320, etc)
    • ATR updates (free): highline, 42-600S STOL, freighter 72-600f, etc ... EFB updates, map feature now movable within airport, etc
  • MSFS 2024 discussion now onwards...
  • Q: Why is 64GB RAM ideal?
A: Seb has a 32GB machine where sim works well (but freezes for 2 secs occasionally for example with two other big software running).. the issue is when several other software is running then more than 32GB would be ideal, especially with max details
  • Recommend specs for 30fps on PC: i.e. for 1440p graphics quality would be set on high
  • Adaptive graphic detail now present in MSFS 2024 (based on user's target FPS settings the sim will adapt appropriate visual fidelity settings automatically)
    • sounds like an in-sim capability like Auto FPS?
  • Q: How are multi-core CPUs being utilized?
A: A lot more usage of multiple cores now... i.e. MSFS 2020 used to be around 50% usage for LHR, MSFS 2024 now 80+%
  • Q: What about DX11?
A: MSFS 2024 is DX12 *only* (performs much better than it does in 2020, a lot of optimizations and got a lot more focus and testing)
  • Q: Given increased reliance on online connectivity, how feasible is to play offline if at all?
A: MSFS 2024: 2TB of non-terrain data now in cloud (planes, airports, etc) and can be streamed, but you can still download to local storage and choose not to stream it ... there is also rolling cache, so some stuff can be used without internet connectivity. But internet connectivity still needed for weather, etc. But offline use can never be as good as online/connected use
    • if internet connectivity goes down, after 30+ seconds then you will start to get warnings etc (so quick interruptions won't be impactful)
  • Q: AMD FSR3 support?
A: They are working on that, but not clear if it'll be ready for launch?
  • Q: How are load times being made faster than MSFS 2020
A: For example there is only "one" planet now.. choosing where to fly etc used to be different planet model than in-sim one, now it's all one shared world (so you also see what you get in the sim when choosing where to fly). Another is only "seen" textures that are visible (I didn't quite get all what was said)
  • Q: Will clouds and weather depiction be improved in MSFS 2024
    A:
    • new cirrus clouds
    • scattering has been reworked (3D clouds/haze/etc)
    • new atmospheric engine ... lighting in atmosphere and clouds now revamped, and is based on various physical conditions
    • clouds are higher density now where they should be, especially storms/etc ... also plane is impacted more (i.e. turbulence, gusts) by these clouds
    • cloud rendering resolution is improved (but not too much, in order to keep computing costs manageable)
    • tornadoes are simulated
    • overall interaction of atmospheric airflow and world is improved
    • wind shear
    • wake turbulence now simulated and interacts with weather, and dissipates naturally, etc (10 mile radius and 6 minutes window of duration)
  • Tornadoes are simulated, once they have reliable live weather data they can then be added to live weather
  • Q: Are thermals simulation improved?, i.e. for gliding
A: Yes, current weaknesses in thermals is due to bad linkage between clouds and weather services (missed rest of answer)
  • Q: Historical weather?
A: Historical live world for 24 hours, not just weather (so all the data for the twin earth simulation is preserved for 24 hours including *all* weather details/data) .. so in addition to weather, also AI traffic, ships/boats, other data is preserved and accessible for past 24 hours
  • Night lighting improvements: Atmospheric and lighting engine revamp, physics-based photometric lighting with light temperature and intensity settings for whatever source of light (from the sun down to street lights)
  • Q: Is it possible to have more cloud types than cirrus and cumulus?
A: There is no concept per se of "cloud type".. it's a 3D grid system of 64 altitude sections (also for wind), and in each the cloud density/fluffiness/thinness/stretch/etc is set up differently, and then the lighting engine raymarches thru the cloud layers. They improved the way the layers work. So the technology is general enough for them to render pretty much anything, but the presets system is limited to certain types. For live weather this all applies too.
  • Q: With weather presets, will there be slider/etc for visibility?
A: Improved fog, haze, etc in live weather .. actually better in live weather due to general 3D cloud system (discussed above)
  • Q: VR improvements?
A: Optimizations particularly in rendering thread/pipeline
  • Online ATC networks will be supported like in 2020
  • Q: ATC improvements?
A: Will be discussed in future
  • Q: Wear/tear and failures?
A: Now simulated in core sim, but not persistent in free flight (but is persistent for career mode)
  • Q: Shared cockpit?
A: Prototype was done, still needs work, so will come in future
  • Walkaround mode is available in free flight of course (not just pre-flight .. can click on door handle and go outside any time while on the ground)
  • Camera improvements coming, i.e. chase cam, etc ... specific tower and fly-by views not supported yet, but definitely doable. But, there is a new free cam which is more flexible/speedy/etc (so in theory you can use that free cam to go into tower and watch from there, etc). Working with Fabio (3rd party) on replay system.
  • Walkaround mode is 1st person view only ... but with new free camera option can observe in 3rd person ... they're now saying walkraound mode is *not* limited in distance (vs preview event interviews from what I recall), so can trek around the world, there is an option to teleport back to plane/airport
  • AI traffic much more liveries and in line with IRL now
  • Q: water physics improvements?
A: Yes significantly, v2020 water physics was based on sine waves and not accurate.. completely revamped, physics are now based on same wave shapes/intensities/etc actually shown (i.e. landing an Icon in 2 foot waves could be dicey).. landings, takeoffs, taxiing in water is now impacted properly
  • Q: Has P factor propeller torque been improved on single engine take-off?
A: It's not just about P factor, so all planes using the modern propeller physics should have P factor impacts .. now, all aircraft that have CFD will be impacted by multiple factors. Many default aircraft re-turned and more realistic based on measurements in IRL aircraft
  • All default aircraft flight models in the sim are based on CFD
  • Premium deluxe aircraft will be available for purchase separately
  • Weekly cadence for 2024 updates.. next week is for SDK, then 1st party aircraft partners, 1st party world partners, marketplace, more 1st party aircraft partners after that, etc ... and next general dev Q&A on Nov 27th after launch.
  • World Update 19: Brazil, Guyana, Suriname, etc
