Whats your MSFS2020 to 2024 transfer checklist?

Being on MSFS forum, you wouldn't believe how many people are going to do exactly that. I've been warning on the forums about MSFS 2024 addon compatibility of 2020 addons not being as smooth as it may seem, third party devs have been warning about it, but it seems like some people have chosen to bury their heads in the sand and take MS/Asobo's word for it that "virtually all addons will work"

I am actually leaning towards a version of this.

The early signs of PMDG and other planes working fine in Legacy mode are encouraging. I want to try the new planes and I am not just going to drag and drop my community folder in anyway.

My checkllist is:

- Get my bindings set up. I am not sure if I am going to clear them all out and use SPAD, or try the native controls.

- See how either the WinWing app or Mobiflight play

- Try out the new MAX, A21N, and the a330.

Why would you immediately burden a brand new product with a bunch of 3rd-party addons?  How can you do any meaningful in-depth testing of the new product with so many pieces of potential conflict?  Wh

  • Once I buy I am bringing nothing over from 2020 for a while. Need to see what works and doesn't before adding more variables.

  • Uninstall MSFS2020. Install MSFS2024. Wait and see what happens.

I can't even believe people are honestly considering doing that, that is so harebrained.

No for me its about going to the vendors from the list I created and look for their addon to say that its been tested and there is a version out for MSFS24 and download and use that. However, I wont start to use any airplane addons until that complete list has been installed with MSFS24 versions. Then I'll add the two planes I fly. As far as scenery (which I have a scenery addiction) I'll start to add those as I fly to them as that part is just easy. But once again from a downloaded and installed version for FS24 not from my 2020 folder.

MSFS2020 has been removed.  Found and removed folders/files associated with MSFS.  Once 2024 has been installed I will spend all of my time with the new aircraft and features.  As each old addon has been certified compatible I will install it into the new sim.

Tuesday/Wednesday no work, just 2024 😁

CPU Ryzen 7800X 3D  RAM 32GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR5 6000MHz GPU GEFORCE RTX 4090
Monitor AOC AGON AG352UCG UltraWide G-Sync @ 3440x1440
Internal Storage 1TB NVMe PCIe SSD
External Storage Three 4Tb HDs

For sure:
1. An airliner (PMDG's 737-800)
2. A business jet (Xtreme Prototype Learjet's 25D)

Very Likely:
3. A prop (Black Square's TBM 850 or Piston Duke or Turbine Duke or Flysimware's C414AW)

Hardware: i7-8700k, GTX 1070-ti, 32GB ram, NVMe/SSD drives with lots of free space.
Software: latest Windows 10 Pro, P3Dv4.5+, FSX Steam, and lots of addons (100+ mostly Orbx stuff).

I'm operating under the assumption that nothing from MSFS 2020 will work in MSFS 2024, or will - at least initially- only work with a "reduced feature set", thus not taking advantage of all the new developments that MSFS 2024 is going to offer.

IOW, for all intents and purposes I have no addons any more and will have to start completely fresh.

I've so many add-ons in 2020, it would be asking for trouble to just plonk 'em all straight over. Am going to carry on for a good while with just the base 2024 until compatibility becomes clearer.

I only have a Logitech 3D Pro, which only has 12 buttons. Mapping my joystick only takes 5-10 minutes at most. I know some people will spend a whole day or two mapping buttons.

Same here. I only have Logitech 3D Pro also even though I have other stuff gathering dust. You'll find it hard to believe, but I got the Logitech working just fine in the in the button-heavy DCS A-10C.

Someday, it'll be even simpler. Less bulk and highly portable. A one size fits-all. Just a gamepad with 2 extra buttons (Flydigi Vader) for both desktop and laptop.

Dynamic LOD app

2024 has a built in dynamic LOD system. That may not be needed

2024 will have live ship traffic with a bunch of new ship models.

All I did was take screenshots of my settings in 2020. Also set up new separate Community folder with addons linker that can be changed to 2024 community folder later. Not going to screw up 2024 by adding any 3rd party addons for now.

Time for that last flight.

- My system is compatible with 2024 (Checked)

- Keeping MSFS 2020 for time being so that I don't loose access to various addons that I have installed (Checked)

- Initially trying MSFS 2024 to see what it is all about as well checking out new features (Awaiting)

- Finally waiting for all the addons to be made compatible with new sim by various developers (Awaiting)
