Why would you immediately burden a brand new product with a bunch of 3rd-party addons?  How can you do any meaningful in-depth testing of the new product with so many pieces of potential conflict?  Wh

  • Once I buy I am bringing nothing over from 2020 for a while. Need to see what works and doesn't before adding more variables.

  • Uninstall MSFS2020. Install MSFS2024. Wait and see what happens.

AAO/Streamdeck, Fenix, Addon Linker, iFly, Navigraph for starters.

I couldn't have said it better!!!

I won't be transferring anything. I might install some add-ons if they will work with 2024.

I stopped wasting money on things like airport & scenery add-ons long ago. Considering I rarely fly in and out of most of them more than a couple of times they are worthless. Couldn't care how good they are as the default ones in many locations are excellent! When I play around with the commercial stuff at altitude scenery also becomes a complete waste of money!

I am building a new system. And will start clean with Win11. And nothing else.

Then slowly I will add what I deem necessary. Air Manager for sure if it works.

New system:

Uninstall MSFS2020 on the 18th.  Find and remove everything to do with the sim.  Install MSFS2024 on the 19th.

Enjoy all the new features and aircraft.  Keep an eye on my 2020 products and install to 2024 as they are updated/compatible.

I see the confusion as I used transfer in the title but what I actually meant was more about addons that you need or rely on that you will need to install in order to make MSFS workable based on your setup.

 i9-13900K O/C | ASUS ROG Maximus Z790 Hero | 32GB DDR5 6000MHz Kingston FURY | RTX 4090 24GB | 2x SSD M.2 (2TB Samsung 990 PRO) 1x SSD (4TB Samsung 870 EVO) | Windows 11 Home | H20: HydroLux PRO:HardLine Tubing| 1000w PSU | Starlink WiFi

Simply wait for the few addons I used in MSFS 2020 to become fully compatible, namely Active sky, the PMDGs 777, 737 and dc6, the Fenix 320, a couple helicopters I didn't like that much because helis in MSFS leave a lot to be desired, FSHUD and BATC...

But really no hurry - more than fine with the default Standard edition hangar and the new activities.

I'm going to start running it immediately in a 100% addon-free manner.

There are more than enough new aircraft (I fly all types), missions, career modes, etc., to keep me busy for weeks while the 3PD's work out any kinks in their add-ons.

As long as v2024 is stable, I don't see any reason to continue running v2020 at all.

I did the same when X-Plane v12.0.0 Beta launched and even though there weren't as many new usable features, I still never went back to v11 even tho it remained on my computer for months, "just in case".

eta: I'll be UNinstalling most of the large regional sceneries and such from v2020, except for the one or two over which I fly most frequently.

Agree with this spirit!

But I don't think the default auto-gen ones are very good (especially if one has any familiarity with the actual airfield).

That said, the freeware scenery selection for MSFS is stunning, and like you say, with the exception of just a few favorite airports, I don't see much reason to purchase scenery like I used to for P3D or XP.

With over 1500 addons, I'll wait until addon linker is working with FS2024 and move everything over as it become compatible. No need to hose a new install with unknown problems from a older platform. Hopefully I can uninstall FS2020 completely by summer of 2025. I have a 4TB ssd C drive plus 4 other 2 TB SSD's so space is not a issue for me. I may remove FSX-se altogether when more of the older AC releases become available for FS2024 (ie dash 8-400 and older 737's 300,400, and 500 models.

Nothing until they're confirmed to work.

I'll be using pure vanilla 2024.

I forgot mentioning my Mamudesign Marinas and Powerlines..🙂
