Is this MSFS2024 anything other than a MS Moneygrab?

Featured Replies

It's clearly aimed at the console market. Money grab? Sure, but not in THAT way.

MSFS started really well, but i'm not sure about its future in this format, not for me at least.

  • I'd say the tessellation improvements for sure.  I don't think they had support for the much higher resolution of runways, taxiways, ramps etc.  The ground up close is so much better, grass, auto gene

  • I would assume Ryan considered “troll” because only 47 posts AND your Hyperbolic  Headline concerning “Money Grabs”.  I assume you work for a living?  Bills to pay?  Kids to raise?  Sound like you?  W

  • Because people come here or lurk here for years with hardly any contributions... and then they wait for moments like this (this sim had a bad launch its no lie)... and come out with a post like this -

Maybe less videos and chatting / hotels and more focus into the piped infrastructure msfs goes trough would have helped to achieve a better results for everybody.

Nope. It clearly includes the console market and includes new accommodations for them, but isn’t aimed only or even mainly at them.

You pick out just animals to suit your argument?  How about the greatly increased terrain resolution that stops you landing anywhere?

Thats really not a big deal to add into a game at close up lod, i could knock up those rocks in blender in 10 mins . its a texture wrap around a 3d model... so what?

You don't have to have thousands of posts to have your voice heard or to be taken seriously.

Absolutely agree, but what you do have to do is make posts that deserve to be taken seriously. "anything other than a money grab" is OP wailing and stamping his feet because he didn't get 100% of what he wanted right NOW. It was a non-serious title and frankly the suspicion that he's trolling is being generous to the OP because the other option is that he never matured beyond 5th grade.

This should be obvious, but a lot of people are extremely dissapointed and even angry at the moment.

Granted, but it might be nice if they reacted better to disappointment than my nephew does, because he's 8 years old and they're not.

All the running around screaming and threatening to sue Microsoft and accusing them of being crooks is not helpful. It will not get the sim fixed any faster.

I'm irritated at it too, because while I wasn't expecting it to be perfect or bug free on release, it would be nice if I could spin a Cessna around the pattern once without lagging. But I also knew when I paid the money that it was overwhelmingly probable that the sim would be almost unusable at launch. You pays your money, you takes your chances. While I wait for the sim to get better, I can go do other things that don't involve behaving like a toddler on the internet.

No I don't think it is at all.  I look at it as if you buy the standard edition you get a good version of the A321LR/A330 with an updated weather/psychics model and revised coding to make good use of multi-threaded cpus.  My sim runs very smooth compared to MSFS2020 and looking at how my PC balances the workload on CPU/GPU and memory I think they have done a good job.  Asobo just need to fix their cloud issues as I find that the sim just stalls if I need to re-load my flight.

Man, your hubris is only surpassed by your lack of knowledge concerning software development and delivery, but you go right ahead and build your version.  Not a big deal, right?

With this horrible GUI and type of "gameplay" it sure looks like it. If it's not, they completely failed convincing me.

New lighting, new clouds, new flight physics, new ground physics, tesselation, free charts (I mean, that alone is worth a new version fee!), new planes, Ray tracing, many years of free support and new updates likely, new streaming infrastructure, etc.etc.etc.etc.

..............none of which couldn't have been added to 2020? You're an unserious person.

You're making an absurd assumption and talking through your jet-pipe.

Oh the irony 🤣 .. by this logic, ya all kinds of improvements can be added to 2020, in perpetuity!, while the MS/Asobo dev teams get funded out of thin air.

Good lord, so much absolute angry word not allowed being spouted on this forum right now.

A "money grab"? They spent four years giving away the equivalent of hundreds of dollars of add-ons and new functionality, not to mention updating the sim roughly every month that entire time, not to mention never charging an additional dime for whatever their costs were for serving up all that data for all that time.

And because people are squinting at features any declaring it "could have been added to MSFS2020", it's a money grab. Just deeply unserious stuff.  MSFS has been about the least money-grabby piece of entertainment software Microsoft have released in ages.

They had millions and millions in revenue from the marketplace, nothing they did was technically "for free", but I think by default a Flight Sim will always generate more passion, even in a large corporation, such as compared to a normal game.

The average expenditure per person is higher than anything else ever made, other than maybe Star Citizen. So I don't mind trying to keep a positive attitude, but also I don't want to drink the koolaid and live in fake world, though I know many people do.

Let me preface and say if you like the changes, that's good and maybe I am just an old hat. So I'm not saying my opinion is right or anything, it's just an opinion, a personal preference. I don't particularly like coffee, but it's ok on occasion. Some people love it to death.

For a flight sim, I think they focused on the wrong things in 2024, but my opinion might be completely wrong here as it takes time to evaluate the full scope of what was changed. What are we doing 90% of the time in a Flight Sim, we are flying not fishing at a pond. Now I wish they had focused on the terrain issues and how the trees looked overhead, more than just improving things from the ground level.

I totally understand it's "cool" they added new planes, but it seems like we have MAJOR aircraft bloat with like 50+ decent graphics but low fidelity planes that don't really work that well.

The control settings are driving me crazy, it keeps randomly telling me it created a new profile when I change any setting, or whatever. The performance is improved, but I have no add-ons running, like zilch - nothing. So that is expected. So I'm not sure how much the performance is just the fact that I'm running a very base sim. I disagree that the clouds are improved, at best they are very very slightly altered, but it looks similar overall.

The changes at 20 feet or below to the ground graphics are way improved. It looks much better taking off because of the trees alone. For instance, take off from Cascade Idaho and look at the pine trees, that is a MAJOR improvement. I give them credit here.

Beyond that, I'm disappointed. Also people shouldn't get so angry for others voicing their opinions, if I were to give you a fluffy cat opinion then that would make me dishonest. My other option would be to stay quiet, and that's ok I could, but as you know sometimes you just have to let it out.

Can they turn this thing around?
Yes

Do I think they focused on the wrong things?
Yes

Was there a need to redesign the UI?
Abso-freaking-lutely-NOT

A color change or minor update would have been fine, moving things around was a waste of time.

But 2020 does not have it.

So your entire argument in the last days (2024 is not different than 2020) is and was null and void.

And this is covering the entire globe.

If you fire up your Blender and create 1000 rocks per minute and we will not hear from you again until you completed the same, you will be back in the year 2475 roughly.

Is this post an attention grab?
