Afraid to Install FS2024

Featured Replies

I am waiting and watching with FS2024 release for the dust to settle. But I'm getting a bad feeling about this.

-its now more gamey than ever?

-flight physics have been dumbed down? (Helicopters?)

-the key mappings have all changed? Only 4 saved view positions?

-The trees are STILL way Oversized?

-The curtain effect on bridges is STILL there and worse than ever?

What is happening to this 'sim' ?

Why are we seeing these kinds of blunders?  800 Devs, so many new aircraft but core stuff which really bugs me 😝

Be afraid, be very afraid...😶🫤

Alienware Aurora R11 10th Gen Intel Core i7 10700F - Windows 11 Home 32GB Ram
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super OC 16GB - Pimax Crystal Light VR

Sort of like a car crash. You know you shouldn't look, but then you do. So go ahead, hit the install button. What could possibly go wrong? lol

Don't get the point of this thread. What are you afraid about? It's just software, it won't suddenly cause your computer to break, nor will it break any other software or cause any damage.

Try it out, or not, as you please. If you don't like it, just uninstall it. That's it. You can use the GamePass version if you aren't ready to buy.

Nothing to be scared about

Don’t be afraid. Just go ahead. Nothing will happen anyway in the first days as it may not even install

Not sure where you have picked up this info. I have only flown a few of the default GA aircraft and have found the flight characteristics to be the best I have experienced. No surprises at all. Ground handling and braking is accurate. Spent several hours flying over the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon with various planes and nothing but stunning. No issues connecting today. Loaded the sim several times and load times are dramatically improved.

Heaven sakes. Then don't. If it's going to cause an existential crisis in you.

It is indeed a crisis. Especially after I witnessed a YouTube video with a quick test, and there is the same old bridge curtains and oversized trees.

You can select 2020 key mappings and they will work the same as in 2020. You can save up to 10 custom camera views just like before.

The flight model has most certainly NOT been dumbed down. Quite the opposite. I can’t speak for helicopter FM as I don’t fly them.

Curtains under bridges is probably an unavoidable side effect of using photogrammetry just as it was in 2020. They would have to be fixed on a case-by-case basis.

Let the servers die down post sudden installs by zillions of buyers.  I will keep following as the hysteria subsides then install and I predict that will be with 2-3 weeks.

I think overall it's a better sim.  It's FAR better than what 2020 was when it was released hehe.

I've had the day to mess around and break things (yes many bugs it's true) but now that I've gotten the hang of it, binding my controls, etc, it's pretty dang good!

Off the top of my head good things are:

Better flight model with 172, seems more natural, during crosswind landings especially

Stellar new Honeywell avionics from WT, even though the PC24 is badly broken lol, the PC12 is acceptable but not super in depth, new UNS from WT (in the Saab340)

Much nicer atmospheric lighting, more dense clouds (can't always see through layers like in 2020), ultra realistic sunset / sunrise lighting (at least to my eyes)

Much higher ground texture resolution (some people are still seeing really blurry textures due to server saturation though), auto generated objects such as hay bales in farm fields etc, I landed on the beach in the Norden and it make tracks in the sand!

Vastly higher res airport ground markings/textures... runways, taxiways, yellow markings, apron etc

Seasons!!  Orange/Yellow/Brown on leaves, barren trees in late fall/winter - it's really realistic looking

High end default aircraft like A400M, C700, S22T, 737 Max, etc  (the PC24 when it get's fixed lol)

There's a lot more... just can't think of it now...

I agree with this assessment. Today I also spent time learning the interface -- something that takes time and patience -- and did a circuit in the 152 and the 172 and both the ground handline and flight felt natural and quite convincing.  The trees and ground look better and the lighting is a significant step up from 2024. The 172 is well done with working circuit breakers and a walk around and wear and tear! As some have said, it is going to take time for things to calm down, for the MS algorithms to learn the usage patterns and help keep everything smooth, and for people to take time and make effort to learn the new features and UI. But in a little while we are going to have a great platform to move forward on! Oh, and I consistently load from launch to selecting my aircraft in under 2 minutes.

MSFS 2024. Primary Planes: Black Square TBM850, Duke, Baron, Caravan; A2A Comanche; FSReborn Phenom; Fexix A321; PMDG 737-7, 777: Utilities: Active Sky (Passive Mode); BATC, FSLTL.

Not smooth at start and definitely not a bug free. But as many pointed out - it's step up with a lot of improvements.

I'll be getting it for sure, no rush though and nothing to fear. Perhaps next week after everyone changes their sheets and the servers calm down. There is Stalker 2 for now which will be keeping me busy first.

Let me add: Some of the runway markings and details almost look real. AI traffic is smooth. Watched it at O’Hare for several minutes. We may need some new ground controllers to monitor proper spacing …. but very cool to watch the complexity take a major leap in realism. Anyone saying the glass is not half full with this release in terms of the enhanced detail “and as real as it gets” is not being truthful. Yes, there are connection problems in some geographical regions and other stuff that is not right, but that will get resolved and ironed out.
