MSFS2024 makes me buy a new PC!

Featured Replies

Okay, so I had a taste of MSFS2044. Started with settings at Medium and now set a few at High. And it's crystal clear now: I need a new PC for MSFS204 and I WANT a new PC for MSFS2024! It's awesome and the future! I love every part of it! The interface, the options, it's all (going to be) great!

So coming december or january I will be shopping for a new PC. Yihaaaa! Can't wait to unleash the power of MSFS2024!

I'll probably wait for the nVidia 5000 series... but that's a topic for the hardware forum.

Anyone else here who (already) decided to get a new PC because MSFS2024 is too good to use it on mediocre hardware?

  • It's hard to understand how some simmers go out and buy more ram, a new gpu, or even a new computer for a broken sim. I tried to warn some, but most don't read or listen. MSFS was rushed out the door

@mistolip Don't let the tsunami of misery posted here crush your high spirits. 2024 runs fine on the same hardware as 2020 and has far more detail. A better PC means you can enjoy 2024 and 2020 w

There's no power to unleash in MS2024.😶  What you have with this release is a buggy sim that should start to get fixed next month.  If you can run FS2020 well now, FS2024 should run better on your current system without any problems in the next few months.  The fact to remember is Asobo is optimizing these sims first and foremost for XBOX.  Unless you have a computer that's not as powerful as an XBOX I would save your money.  The only reason to upgrade your computer is one, it barely runs FS2020 optimally (no one I believe on these forums is in that boat) or you're moving on from 2D to VR.

Have patience and give Asobo a chance with a few updates to fix 2024.  No need wasting money if you don't have too.😎

I would wait a couple of months. Once more of the bugs are worked out there will be lots of reports on how different processors and graphics cards perform. It might turn out that some ultra expensive parts don't add much and that a step down gives just as good performance.

I bought new components back in 2020 before MSFS came out.

Makes sense to do it again now.

not necessary with my current hardware, 10% hardware increase usually boils down to only 5% fps increase. MSFS 2024 runs even smoother than MSFS 2020 with the same configuration. but yes, if you plan to purchase a new pc, good idea to go with the new AMD 9800x3D and NVidia 5090 if you plan to fly VR, for 2D this wouldn't be necessary.

AMD 7800X3D, Windows 11, Gigabyte X670 AORUS Elite AX Motherboard, 64GB DDR5 G.SKILL Trident Z5 NEO RGB (AMD Expo), RTX 4090,  Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 2 TB PCIe 4.0, Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 1 TB PCIe 4.0, 4K resolution 50" TV @60Hz, VR: Pimax Crystal Light + HP Reverb G2 @ 90 Hz, Honeycomb Bravo Throttle Quadrant, be quiet 1000W PSU, Noctua NH-U12S chromax.black air cooler.

60-130 fps. no CPU overclocking.

very nice.

That is only true if you are running modern hardware with a multi core CPU and a decent GPU.

My old PC was quad core... and my current PC has 20 cores... makes a difference.

I got a new PC in advance of installing 2024... No need for the 5000 series GPU,  IMHO...

Current hardware runs it just fine.

Not on my PC. It struggles with 2024 while 2020 was great. Of course it doesn't struggle at Medium but then things look really bad.

Anyway, I am not in a hurry. It runs fine enough for now. I'd just like to see it shine at Ultra!

A 5000 series card is probably too much indeed because I have a 1440 monitor (2K or how you call it), so not 4K.

If 2020 runs great, you don't need a new PC. You need a sim that works properly.

I recently upgraded my PC in anticipation of MSFS 2024 and its power has not been unleashed by MSFS 2024 in its current form, which is rather disappointing. On a positive note, MSFS 2020 now runs super fast so I'll be staying with that until MSFS 2024 becomes unbroken in terms of performance, stability and functionality, which will be quite a while off I expect.

MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS |  VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11

Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11

I've got a 9800X3D with a 4090 and 64 GB RAM, but I do plan on picking up the 5090 when it releases. With the 2024 being so GPU bound, there should be a giant uplift in performance.

I serious doubt that you will see that much of a performance boost with a 5000 series card in 2024. I'm running 2024 on 2080 @ ultra settings and barely cracking 80% load. For the price a 4000 series card would do just as good and save you probably $500 -$1000. Even though 2024 has some quirks, it's runs well for me and I'm enjoying the hell out of it until the fixes come along in the future.

I expect around 30% based on current info which will boil down rather to around 20% more fps. but who needs that when you have a 4090, with FrameGeneration and latest CPU produces ca. 60 fps. For VR that might be a different story.

What is strange is all the promo talk they did about 2024 prior to it's release about how the performance was going to be fantastic compared to 2020, because it was using more cores, etc...  Didn't materialize.

did for me. not in terms of increased fps which I don't need but stutter free smooth experience. despite much increased graphics and flight model performance. which is easy to overlook.
