December 4, 20241 yr Flying in any of the default GA aircraft - it seems to my eyes that the windshield effect is over done. Looking thru the glass - the world is blurry, reduced color and contrast, and there seems to be a "gauze" effect. I have tried setting Windshield to Medium in Graphic options but doesn't do much to help. Is this real life? If Not - how do I reduce the windshield effect? December 4, 20241 yr I thought it was reacting to sun position and felt quite real? All for the option to turn it off for those that don’t like it, but personally I’d like to keep it. Does disabling ray tracing help? i910900k, RTX 3090, 32GB DDR4 RAM, AW3423DW, Ruddy girt big mug of Yorkshire Tea
December 4, 20241 yr Yup, Haze through the windshield is definitely excessive! Need to be able to turn it completely off at times for sightseeing purposes in some aircraft as well.

Real glass certainly won't change how the scenery will look, especially not change the contrast and coloring. Only tinted glass can change it a bit, but it mostly a bit darker. I fly an old bird with tinted glass, it makes things look more blue/green and does change contrast. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |

Just had a quick trip in the Diamond 20 which has heavily tinted glass, and with the sun behind it washes out the scenery, but flying into the sun the effect is much weaker (I think that's the right way round😅). Instinctively it feels right, so personally I wouldn't want the effect removed. i910900k, RTX 3090, 32GB DDR4 RAM, AW3423DW, Ruddy girt big mug of Yorkshire Tea

You can edit your UserCfg.opt file to force windshield effects to High, change it from 1 to 2. It stays that way as long as you don't edit any of your settings and save inside the sim.
December 5, 20241 yr The C414 works ok with the clean glass mod. The Cirrus though is very hazy in the cockpit. Haven't found a solution to this yet.

December 5, 20241 yr I've always despised sim aircraft with intentionally dirty or hazy windows. I clean my windows in a GA plane before I fly if there's a single gnat on them, and if I owned a plane, when windows started to haze visibly at all they'd be replaced. I dislike a dev deciding I should fly in the sim with poor quality windows because they think it'll add to my "immersion". If the sim itself is doing this, that alone is enough to make me avoid it. Sure hope they fix whatever this is. Andrew Crowley
December 5, 20241 yr It is overdone in my opinion. The basic problem with all windshield effects (tint, reflections, scratches...) in FS2020 and FS2024 is that a human being notices them only when focusing your eyes on the windshield. But when you are looking THROUGH the windshield your focal length is completely different and you hardly notice the scratches or fingerprints. Your brain on the top of it tries to filter all disturbing elements out. Unfortunately the sim is not programmed that way. They photographed a scratch and then they superimposed its image over the scenery....And we see it every time even if we would be focusing on the horizon in real life... I am convinced it's a fundamental flaw. Some people are sensitive for this, that's why all the clean glass mods, and some are not and they don't understand why the complaints. They say: "But the scratches are really there IRL!" Yes, they are, but when looking outside, you don't see them. It seems like we're again encountering situations where ASOBO's people lack the necessary knowledge, which can lead to product challenges. I really hope they can embrace a new perspective soon! 747 Captain for the last 39 years, and still learning.

(And I won't mention the ground below reflecting on the glass inside the cockpit). 1 hour ago, David_CSA said: Some people are sensitive for this, that's why all the clean glass mods, and some are not and they don't understand why the complaints. But hey, we still have a great sim to enjoy (if you step around the niggles). 🙂
