Is Lockheed Martin still developing for Prepar3D?

It’s been a while since v6.1 was released and since then, nothing.  It seems that either LM has completely stopped P3D development altogether, or else they are working on a new product that replaces it. Either way, it has been *very* quiet.  I recall a while ago reading about them working with Unreal on a new simulator, but even that rumor trail has gone cold.

Is there any indication of life at LM?

I can understand LM no longer has any interest in supporting the consumer market.  That is to be expected.  I just wonder if there will ever be another release that is sold externally that add-on vendors like Pro-Sim would be inclined to support.

I have to say, it seems quite unlikely to me, as much as I would like to see it.  There is a place for a simulation platform whose primary focus is not casual gaming.

Does anyone have current, credible information that points to a less bleak future?

Erm... bleak future?

Why the ongoing search for the so-called Holy Grail?

Anything wrong with v6.1 that you are so unhappy with, that you want an upgrade for it?

As you quite rightly say... 'There is a place for a simulation platform whose primary focus is not casual gaming'

There are those of us (not casual gamers/simmers) that are quite happy with v4.5, v5 & even v6.

Is that not enough!!!🤔

P3D with the Unreal engine would be very interesting, 'There is a place for a simulation whose primary focus isn't casual gaming'....

If LM did make a new sim we wouldn’t have any addon developers since most of them have gone after the mass market. The Walmartification of sim.

There are still a lot of scenery issues with V6.  These will all have to be fixed before another version is release in my opinion. For example, LM moved a lot of smaller airports to their proper location in V6.  Unfortunately, a lot of these airports now have their runways reversed for some reason.  In some cases, the runway was moved, and the aprons were left in their V5 location causing other issues.  I also know there are some issues with buildings floating in the air in V6.

Some examples of airports with their runways reversed, found these in 15 minutes using Little Navmap. There are many more. These are all small single runway airstrips but still indicates an issue.

CFF2, CEC3, CJC8, CJN7, CKZ3, 7NA2, 4NA6, CFL2 (apron not moved in this one), 13MT, CKU6, 88ND, 9ND8, 97ND, 7MN6, MT45, 0SD3, CD02, 18SD, SD53, 6LL4, 4KY0, 42KY, 42TN, 8AL7 and AL99.

Specs: black box thingy with spinning fans, lights and a bunch of wires that go to screens with pretty colours and a keyboard with many keys. The black box thingy also has a push button activated coffee cup holder.

Sorry, abandoned P3D at 4.5, never when back.  Have to great sims for two difference reasons, MSFS2020 and XP12+...not interested in MSFS2024 for likely a long way out.

I haven't used P3D in probably close to 6 years.. I switched over to XP11 for better graphics and flight dynamics and then went over to MSFS2020 and am now on 2024. P3D was a great stop gap for simmers but we arent LMs target market.

LM develops the sim for the owner Lockheed Martin to support the product they make Aircraft. And will still be developed even if we never use it.

Go to LM web and find out that it`s used for training real pilots where physics not scenery is important

I would say that probably only LM knows... Anything else is speculation.

They might come back one day from nowhere, announcing P3D 7.0 or maybe 6.0 was the end of the road, who knows?

The leisure market is probably real slim now so it is worth it for them to adress it?

I'm using v4.5 as it can take a lot of FSX add-ons.

I'm not interested in FS2020 nor FS2024, as I prefer retro aviation, which those sims do not support, nor am I interested in spending a lot of money on PC's, to get the newer sims to run satisfactory.

What do you mean with "retro aviation" ? I'm quite a fan of older airplanes so I'm genuinely interested 🙂

While you are right (for the moment) about MSFS2024 which suffers from some performance problems, you are wrong about MSFS2020 which has much better performance than P3Dv4 with the same hardware. With my old computer (6 years old already, with an i7 8700k and a GTX1070ti), I switched from P3Dv4 to XPlane11 and then to MSFS2020, and both XP11 and MSFS2020 were offering a much better quality/performance ratio than P3Dv4.

But thanks for sharing your sim experience, appreciated.

Retro is all about the low's 'n slow 1920-1940 aircraft with regressed scenery, which the newer sims, not even P3D has.

We could take this to another forum, if you would like more 'Retro' information, or PM me?

Anyhow, I'm not going debate P3Dv4/FS2020/FS2024/XP-11, I'm just saying that for me, I do not need a further update to P3D, as the older version actually ticks all my boxes.
