Reasonable Load Times for 2024?

Featured Replies

2024 was always faster for me.  But I thought I would actually time it. With lots of stuff in my community folder

With same  Flytampa CYYZ payware airport, and Fenix A321. Live weather.

MSFS 2020.  6min-10 sec to main screen.   52sec to load into airport

MSFS 2024  3min-1 sec to main screen  41 sec ti load into airport.

PC specs are in my signature below.

  • These forums are a veritable smorgasbord of those.

  • In the graphics menu. It automatically adjusts something (probably at least TLOD) to maintain a certain FPS.

  • I don't have the PC in front of me. It's the slider in2024 that controls the dynamic settings and lowers them if your fps are too low.   Try graphics - - dynamic settings - - frame rate target

The 2024 sim loads rapidly until 14% Activate Packages appears on the screen (at 2' 53" elapsed) and stays there for 2' 37".  During that time the only file activity I see is thousands of IRP_MJ_CREATE ops for:

IRP_MJ_CREATE    A:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Limitless\."stage>ps"fmt>dxil"ShaderModuleHash>8ba6814270f1f226\dxil
IRP_MJ_CREATE    A:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Limitless\dxil

with variations of the hash code - all the ops end with Name Invalid or Name Not Found.

Then at 5' 30" elapsed the sim starts making network requests for Streamed Packages.

Less than a minute later the sim is at the Main Menu.  If I exclude the 2' 37" spend spinning wheels (??) the sim load time would be less than four-minutes.  That is the loading duration I was experiencing until sometime in mid-December.

What is the Shader Module Hash and why is the sim spending 2.5 minutes try to create those files?

Lucky users you are!

In my case, it always sticks  5' 30'' at 5% "loading language"—whatever that means. Then, after a total time of 9 minutes, it arrives at the opening scene.

Do you have the dynamic frame rate thing enabled?  Try disabling that if you do.  It's increasing load times.

Can you enlighten me, please. What is the dynamic frame rate thing?

Try graphics - - dynamic settings - - frame rate target

Rather make sure it's disabled.

Thanks a lot. I will make sure that it is disabled.

At my work we have a "hash" on one of the servers that is created ONCE, that is programmatically tied to a certain workstation's hardware...the hash is in essence a security feature put into a compiled file based on the workstation's hardware, meaning that the program couldn't be used on another workstation.   If the hardware on that workstation changes, we have our supplier compile a new .exe based on the new hardware.   I'm not sure if this is the same definition of hash they're using with shaders, but it could be similar.

I know shaders are compiled also, but I'm not well-versed on gfx shaders or how they work.  It sounds like it's compiling shaders each time (?) the sim is started, but I do not know that for sure.   I wish we had more info on the inner workings of what in the he-double-hockeysticks the sim is doing when it loads, but I doubt we ever get that info.  I used to wonder what WinXP was doing while it loaded too...never did find out.

If I were you I would clean my shader cache out completely, just in case something is corrupted in there that MSFS2024 is trying to work around.  Reboot the machine and restart MSFS2024, reboot machine again and restart MSFS2024.  Give MSFS2024 a couple of starts and see if load time improves after that.  It might help you a little bit.

Something must have gotten corrupted..   maybe time for a complete house cleaning, and possibly MSFS reinstall if things do not improve..

It is off. But I don't understand 5-6 minutes "language loading" ...

to avoid this I can use the task manager to shut down the sim when it arrives at "language loading". Then, restarting the sim it skips "loading language" and goes directly to package loadings, etc. with "normal" load times.

Uninstalled and Reinstalled MSFS 2024 - Did not make any difference in load time but did get rid of all the File Create attempts for the ShaderModuleHash.

4 or 5 generations old, too.  Instructions Per Clock does matter.  Not slamming it, just pointing it out.  I had an 8700K up until not all that long ago.

I slowed the CPU to 4 GHz (20% reduction) and saw a 5% increase (19-seconds) in loading time to the main menu and 24% increase (39seconds) to Ready to Fly

I get to the start button right about the time between the Deer and the Giraffe. I use to get it in about a min and 47 second and then just of 2 mins to be standing on the tarmac.

Seems like its compiling shaders?  Shouldn't need to do that each time though... odd
