Eh?  I must have dreamed all the SU's.

Some forget or don't know how much time it took to get 2020 to the point of....it just works with all of those 3rd party planes people like to use and everything else.  Right now we're still *only* at 4.6 months from initial launch of 2024 and yet pretty much everything works...but some/most of those 3rd party planes.  APL works, SLC works, GSX, BATC works and have for months now.  Visually for me?  Still not sure sometimes I find 2020 better, sometimes 2024 and in the end as an airliner flyer it's so similar.  After all the plane, the airports and adjuncts I use like SLC etc are the same.   In terms of weather and cloud depiction:  it's actually a wash for me as well on this.  While it seems cloud depiction seems generally more plausible in 2024 I find the method used, the uniform cotton-ball structure you see in 2024 in denser cloud layers looks less realistic to me than does 2020 which did not use this uniform cotton-ball structure they are much more random.

Am I disappointed with 2024?  Nope, it is what it is and should continue improving.  I'm using it now about 30% of the time but lately have been leaning back towards more 2020 time.

Give it another 6 months, and there is a chance that 2024 will be as reliable as 2020.

... thus replicating 2020's development perfectly.

If I was desperate to use an addon only available in 2020 I may use it, but it would be a real struggle to go back the the green tinted world.  The new lighting model in 2024 is just so good.

You must be referring to the planes not yet compatible because 2024 is certainly stable, w/o crashes or other and performance is very good.

I think business model wise 2024 is kind of an odd direction in some ways.  Others early on said they thought it should have been 'an update' instead of a stand alone platform, which reminds me of P3D's port to 64 bit.  I do wonder if MS has questioned themselves on this now as well because supporting two standalone platforms is certainly more demanding on their end.

There has to be a reason why so many have tried 2024, and eventually moved back to 2020. As long as 2020 is working so well, and every add-on I use works with 2020, I can not think of one reason to install a beta program, and deal with all the issues that come with it.

How long did you wait to purchase 2020 after release?

Jan, 2021. Before that I used P3D, so MSFS was a major improvement. I don't see that same benefit going from 2020 to 2024, just problems I don't need.

Sure, why bother unless you're mainly 2024-curious, which is pretty much me.  I wanted to financially support the product as well.  There are times when it's obvious to me why others are quite enamored w/ 2024 despite its missing compatibility with various 3rd party planes.   Starting a flight at KSFO the other day could easily see some of that looking west towards the hills surrounding the south bay it was uber photo-real.  It's a bit to get up and running so glad that's behind me now and look forward to various planes becoming fully compatible.  Sounds like the Asobo 737 MAX will be at least fully flyable shortly to help tie me over til I-Fly or other arrives.

Once upon a time there was light in the life, now there's just a sim in the dark.  Nothing I can say, a total eclipse of the Sim.

Once upon a time, they promised Better ATC, a Weather Radar, FSR3, Seasons.  It all never came.  They promised Sim Update 16. Now Cancelled!  The whole FS2020 Roadmap Gone! and Replaced with a Cloud Streaming Game Roadmap!  😡

So real simmers are back in the dark FSX days, where no updates are coming.  Unless you want to join Beta Testing for the cloud streaming Game!

But I guess we can look forward to the day it comes to Playstation 5 and Switch 2 consoles 🥵

You are wrong about Seasons (and possibly some other stuff). MSFS2024 has it, with incremental changes visible day-to-day -- an amazing feature!

Turn around bright eyes…

Wait a sec….@jcomm, I really need to see what “Flightgear” is all about.

Because while I am enjoying the latest XP12 and MSFS2024 betas at the moment, I will surely get the urge to uninstall them or at least go back to an “all default, no add ons” approach.

Just as I long to achieve minimalism in my abode, but have about 1300 lbs of airplane and railroad books and models, not to mention other acquisitions.

Including a real circa 1984 Empire Airlines paper timetable, so I can fly my JustFlight F28 on proper routes!

We haven't had a dramatic thread in a few days, so we needed a new one.

Unless I have some special computer or internet connection MSFS 2024 is certainly stable, I have over 200 hours in the sim already without major problems. I don't really get the whining. There are major improvements in the new sim which make MSFS 2020 feel like old tech. Of course they are going to concentrate development on the new platform, this is pretty much a given!

Has somebody been sniffing avgas again?

Thanks for the laugh! Enjoying 2024 since the launch.

PS It was good to smell real world avgas a couple of days ago, after a long winter!
