A Total Eclipse of the Sim

Featured Replies

Once upon a time there was light in the life, now there's just a sim in the dark.  Nothing I can say, a total eclipse of the Sim.

Once upon a time, they promised Better ATC, a Weather Radar, FSR3, Seasons.  It all never came.  They promised Sim Update 16. Now Cancelled!  The whole FS2020 Roadmap Gone! and Replaced with a Cloud Streaming Game Roadmap!  😡

So real simmers are back in the dark FSX days, where no updates are coming.  Unless you want to join Beta Testing for the cloud streaming Game!

But I guess we can look forward to the day it comes to Playstation 5 and Switch 2 consoles 🥵

X-Plane that to me please @Greazer.. There's always an option... You can even DCSide or ... Go FlightGear for free as I sometimes do after uninstalling all my stuff 🤣

This being said, I confess I am enjoying the streamed sim, and Xp12.2 Beta now too !

What's wrong with MSFS 2020?

Nothing, it just works, unlike the beta program that Asobo wants to replace it with.

I have to like @Greazer and @Bobsk8  🙂

I'd like to be so honest with myself as they are... Because sometimes I feel like pulling the rug out from under my feet 🤣

Thankfully I sometimes wipe the sims, one at a time or during deep crise scenarios, altogether 🤣

Last week I was seriously considering wiping them all, including Condorsoaring and installing Fedora on my home rig...

Only viable options would then be X-Plane 12 and FlightGear...

After a whole day fighting system problems at the metoffice datacenter I ran home and started FS 2024 SU2 Beta for a short hop in the A2A Comanche, then Xp12.2 Beta , then went to bed and dreamed I was at a party with Austin and Sebastian, with lot's of sexy gals all around offering Chinese home cockpit hardware giveaways...

My current "crisis" is that I purchased BGGH Nuuk International without checking the surrounding scenery first. The airport and city scenery is great, but my OCD cannot accept the low resolution OSM data around the shorelines. Far too many polygonal black areas where there should be water. The same is true of BGSF Kangerlussuaq (which I purchased a year ago), so I only have myself to blame

despite the "rant-y" nature of Greazer's topic, i tend to agree. i don't understand why more of us haven't held Asobo's feet to the fire, even if you set aside FS2024 as though it didn't even exist - there are so many things they promised but never delivered, or issues and bugs that have been there since the day FS2020 released. for example, how on earth is it STILL not possible to have the sim remember your selected worldmap filters?! it boggles my mind. that's obviously a small issue in the grand scheme of things, but it does illustrate a problem endemic to how Asobo has conducted updates and bugfixing to the sim.

now if you take 2024 into account as well, the picture is even clearer. i gave 2024 another shot yesterday evening to see how things had progressed and i was just flabbergasted by how many issues slapped me in the face constantly for ~75 minutes until i gave up and refunded again.

it's still an amazing simulator for many different reasons, don't get me wrong - i'm just disappointed because there is/was SO much potential that's been wasted. and that's not even getting into the ethical aspects of it all.

You better make this clear to @Bobsk8 as he is under the impression it's perfect.

Give it another 6 months, and there is a chance that 2024 will be as reliable as 2020.
