A Total Eclipse of the Sim

Featured Replies

Well, as this thread is now 7 pages, I think that @Greazer is happy! Probably not a lot of new arguments - but from my perspective it's alright comparing the sims. One thing is for sure - there's always a bit of drama, which can be entertaining 🍿🍿🍿

Personally I'm just a little tired. checking up on Avsim and and this forum is literally just complaining at times.

Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on your perspective, it is a minority who are fulfilled with posting negative themes that add no beneficial content to the flight simulation community.

We don't actually know that it's a minority - but based on my experience, following most threads here on Avsim since 2024 released on Nov19, I think the drama and negative comments have settled down a bit.

I just made a video (not sure if I'm going to release it yet), using several payware and freeware GA aircraft at various locations in 2024. Mostly a very nice experience, very few bugs (I did encounter a few - I would call them "non game breaking") - but with some considerable improvements in the ground detail, flight model (it differs depending on the aircraft addon), lighting model, shadows, clouds, weather, mountain cliffs etc.

@Cpt_Piett Well, best to give the benefit of the doubt, and hopefully a minority. I do know that several users frequent this specific forum less often, or have fully departed due to the recurrent spikes in negative remarks. Looking forward to the video!

Once upon a time simmers had dreams in a bubble, but now that's all destroyed into rubble.  Nothing I can say, a total eclipse of the Sim.

Nevermind - I don't want to add fuel to the fire...

Avsim doesn’t need much fuel…

Indeed!

As things are so polarized (much as in the real world), I can't be bothered to make a video praising 2024 - I'd rather just delete the source material and watch season 6 of Better call Saul (I had nearly finished the video editing). I'll leave it up to "professional video creators" (insert your favourite flightsim youtube channel here) to promote FS2024. IMO I don't care what sim people are using. I honestly really can't be bothered.

I'd rather watch a video made by a passionate and honest 'amateur' than a 'pro' any day!! (You're my fave amateur btw hehe ☺️).

Probably a good idea backing off from promoting or demoting 2024 at this point. "What's good and what's bad about 2024" would also be pointless as it evolves so often the video would be out of date in a week. More viable would be "2020-A retrospective review" summing up what the original sim did well and what could be improved on with 2024 and its successors in the future.

Or maybe not. Too many sim videos about the sims today imo. I'd rather see some actual FLYING for a change like that sweet Duke series you did in the Nepal region.

Been extremely busy with my home move for last 6 months haven't had any time to even sim myself this year or watch videos! I will have to drop by your channel again soon, had some enjoyable times down that particular sim rabbit hole!

Well, total eclipses last only a few minutes, so take heart.

Though according to @JBDB-MD80 I'm being.. sensitive? I clearly ruffled some feathers because I, checks notes, wanted to voice my thoughts on the constant spat back on forth that's been had for the past 6 months. I guess uhh, keep the discussion going I guess.

In some sense yes you are but that is my opinion  so why even bother. Just leave the thread and move on to 2025. I am not leaving MS2020 for about another year when I can upgrade my hardware when I decide. Ruffled feathers IMO seems to come from the MS/Asobo Followers side supporting a broken piece of software (acceptable for them) and for many other users at this point think otherwise. No more to say.

Call me a grumpy old git, but I am getting the feeling that this thread has most assuredly run its course.

You wouldn't take a side, obviously.

I am using MS2020 for now and will move on to MS2024 in the future. Is that clear enough?

I wasn't quoting about your timeline of sim use.
