April 6, 20251 yr Just relooked at the optimization video posted here yesterday and discovered the wide-open native frame rate went from 67FPS to 97FPS in my test scenario--and you will not see this unless you disable it, close MSFS then relaunch. That was such a remarkable finding I thought I'd best post it here for all to see. April 6, 20251 yr Is it really only to show wheel tracks in snow, mud etc? Then I will get rid of it asap as well Greetings, Chris AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D, 2x32GB DDR5 6000MT/s RAM, MSI RTX 4090 Ventus 3X, Windows 11 Home, MSFS2024

April 6, 20251 yr Author I don't know Bert but on the ground is where frame rates matter and that is where the issue surfaced for me, on ground w/ the big increase in rate, and that is native rate. If you look at its description on the right in-sim I believe it specifically states it's for nearby terrain or something along those lines. That is such a massive hit I am able to increase some other settings that will mean more to me I'm pretty sure but will see shortly. The optimization video def shows this as well, from whence I got the idea to try it. You can see his results here and if you're using FG and have ample headroom sure you can use it but it's just not going to be worth the kind of hit I got with it since I do not use FG. April 6, 20251 yr And we needed a video to find this out? It should be obvious that such a feature has to be rendered and calculated and that it will be very costly.
April 6, 20251 yr I’ve not seen much difference on/off with this setting. Except that enabling/disabling on the ground can cause mesh issues that doesn’t disappear until the flight is reloaded. 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 64GB DDR5

April 6, 20251 yr Displacement mapping off turns the wonderfully uneven terrain back into everywhere flat like 2020. Useless turning this off for VFR/bush flying. Maybe those who only fly airliners will find it useful to turn it off.. April 7, 20251 yr On my 5080 it has no impact on or off. I think the settings come down to your PC specs.

I'm glad this was brought up, personally. I'd never have known otherwise. I dont think so. And yes, it eats VRAM quite a lot and the difference is not really significant above 500ft DA B760M PRO4 | i5-13400F | RTX 3060 12 GB | G.Skills Ripjaws 32GB | MSI MAG A550BN | Ace Power 1 TB NVMe | Cooler Master Hyper 212
