Does anyone know if historic weather and a fairly well functioning weather radar will be available in 2024?

Yes, both are available in 2024 although 'historic' weather is limited to the previous 24 hours.

Despite what you might have heard, weather radar in both 2020 and 2024 works rather well. Asobo have made a wxr api available that detects a 3D cone of precipitation ahead of the aircraft. Range, gain and now tilt are available.

This is how it appears in the G3000 avionics suite.

The problem with Wxr in MSFS isn't the radar, the problem is MSFS doesn't produce weather that needs avoiding....

LOL, they’re already calling MS2020 a dead sim . I would hate to be a horse or dog belonging to those people. As soon as a new one comes along you’re dead. Seems stability is not one of their favorite

  • Tell me you have no idea what you're talking about, without telling me explicitly. Do you have any idea at how insanely low the support costs for these old birds are, relative to the new stuff?

Better start exporting PMDG-liveries now, if one wants to have a back-up of those, but they have to be exported one by one I understand(?). It should be possible to install the original liveries again via the 3rd party-installer.

What if you try installing every livery available for the PMDG birds, and then back up all the texture folders and aircraft.cfg? That's how I did when I had to reinstall Windows last month.

Well, that would be much easier....  🙂

I haven't tried that so I will give it a try!

As Mathijs said, the only difference is that the official liveries won't be downloadable anymore.

No big deal, just download them now while we can and it's not like we couldn't find unofficial liveries, sometimes even better.

No, that's not what Robert's post said.  It said:

This change should result in very little impact to customers, except that we will deprecate use of PMDG Operations Center 2 and that will reduce the tools effectiveness to only installing 3rd party liveries

No mention of updates.  They continually avoid the question.

I have posted again.  Mathijs labelled it as "commotion" which I can't understand.

Mathijs, Here is the question in bold below. I can't make it any clearer.  Please address it.

How are we to obtain the lastest version of the 77L/F/W product (1.11.1201) if the installers availabe for download are outdated and OC2 is not going to give the update after install?

Robert's post said:

"... we will deprecate use of PMDG Operations Center 2 and that will reduce the tools effectiveness to only installing 3rd party liveries".  Yours I've quoted here says the same.

This would mean OC2 is not going to install updates for some of the outdated installers like the 777 ones available on our accounts. For the fouth time now, I have mentioned the 777 has outdated installers on our accounts. The OC2 provides updates to it after install.

This is inconistent with your statement "nothing changes apart from support being halted". Without the OC2 update or an updated installer, we cannot get the most up-to-date version of the 777.

For the moment, in case they don't update the installer/somehow allow updates:

I have copied the contents of \AppData\Roaming\PMDG\PMDG Operations Center\Updater\PMDG 777-200LR

and other planes somewhere else so I have a copy of the updated files.  If you don't have that folder, you may need to uninstall the plane, install it from the installer you download, and let the OC2 update it.

Then you've got to find where to copy the files to.

Or, if your copy is updated already, simply backup the folder/drive on which it is stored, so it can be restored if necessary.

Intel i7 6700K @4.3. 32gb Gskill 3200 RAM. Z170x Gigabyte m/b. 28" LG HD monitor. Win 10 Home. 500g Samsung 960 as Windows home. 1 Gb Mushkin SSD for P3D. GTX 1080 8gb.

I can't understand why they don't just chuck all the official liveries in one zip file and allow customers to download it when they down their 'legacy' ac.

Progress huh? I'm not a fan of the ubiquitous "install APP" that almost every software developer forces you to install these days before you can even install the actual software you purchased.

Why ? Would you prefer them to work for free without any income, and then go bankrupt, instead of continuing to exist through other sims ? Nice mentality

I don't care about future updates (For P3D it is not going to happen and I accept that) but my point is that I should be able to continue to use the product that I paid for. I did not get those products for free nor PMDG has done any favours to me. When you think about it I have spent in excess of 100s of dollars my hard earned cash for these, I very least expect them to allow us to continue the use the product/continue to allow us install their inhouse liveries.

Don't even get me started about working them for free - They have made a lot of money in last couple months/years by selling MSFS products, Hence why their attitude towards legacy products and their customers.

As PTP files can still be imported I’ve described it as reduced functionality

Yeah that's actually not that bad so we should be able to install third party liveries from various sources.

Inibuilds has several of these on their forums

It would be nice if Aerosoft put a word in for us "end of life cycle" P3D olds and tried to at least get installers for the final versions of the PMDG aircraft they have sold and are selling. Even if they nuke them in the future. I purchased the 777 & 747's there after their summary execution at the PMDG store.

Just a thought. Great video mate.

Me too. Got p3dv5 pro and those 2 birds the moment I saw pmdg had turned off their life support at home. They weren't even sick!

Thanks for posting on the PMDG forum and chasing those guys up. I love your persistence! 👍

I agree with you, I am not sure what Mathias' comment about "commotion" is really about because it left an unanswered question around how P3D users are able to get back to the latest revision of the installed PMDG aircraft since as you quite rightly pointed out, the installers from your PMDG account do not include the latest installers. I can also confirm this based on the downloads I made today from the PMDG site and they are the same size as the original installers I downloaded yonks ago, so clearly without the subsequent updates /bug fixes included.

In response, I did see Kyle (ex-PMDG) and Mathias Kok indicate they will "figure out a way" to make those latest installers available. Based on this and Randizzyo's initial statement which mentioned nothing about OC2 installer functionality, it seems to me they overlooked this in their P3D positioning statement.

I hope they will follow up and confirm what the process will be for P3D users who need to re-install any PMDG aircraft since OC2 will be deprecated in its functionality. Note: the original thread in the forum is now closed.

If they make latest installers available some how, some way and communicate it in good time then I am OK.

FWIW- regarding liveries, I started to install those that I wish to use but did not install yet via OC2.

BTW: It is possible to export the PMDG-created/installed liveries using the export function of OC2 and save them as .ptp files.

Nevertheless, I will also be making a full backup of my current PMDG installation, based on the useful advice from Adam's video of what files to back up in various P3D folders.
