I didn't see mention of a workaround Jarnie.  What might that be?

Sorry for the confusion  I just meant that the user can open the task manager and selected the MSFS task, right click and select end task.

TO access the task manager Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc all at the same time.

The user doesn't have to shut down the PC.

  • This is the problem with ASOBO. Almost 5 years later and they are still relying on a voting system to fix what they brake after an update.

  • Don't waste your time. I'm with an AMD card and I'm experiencing the same issue. It's most certainly a sim issue that won't resolve until Asobo get it fixed.

Thanks.   Normally that's the case, you can use TM to shut down processes but in my case I can't even open TM.  It's possible ChasePlane contributed to as these issues seemed to start after installing.  Can do a complete flight just fine but no way to shut it down now w/o hitting the power button.

I doubt it's because of ChasePlane.    I don't have it installed and seeing this issue.  Tonnes of reports of this, and still no fix.

Me too, same thing since a couple off time..??

Fit up that button for Win11 to close the task but hope for a fix sometime soon..

cheers 😉

Spoke too soon.

My second flight was back to having to use Task manager to shut the sim down.

Not fixed.

I think it's far more likely to be an add-on than a core sim issue or I would expect everyone to be impacted.

I think in the long thread on the MSFS forum, even folks with an empty Community folder experienced this issue as well.  Did you install the CU 10?

Actually, I did not but I still got that 700+ meg download and update on the same day as CU10 (which I think has actually improved Frame Gen)  so that part of the update was forced but I never installed the CU.

@psolk  The reason I asked was that was a thought on what the culprit might be.  In addition to the forced update, I also grabbed CU10 (and two WU updates that were listed in my content manager).

I have to shutdown and restart.

This certainly works but what also works, for me anyway, is to go to the Task Manager via ALT+CTL+DEL, right click on flightsimulator.exe and select End Task.

I was referring to the fact I can't even get to Task Manager--it essentially locks up when I try to close MSFS 2020 and I've not read much about that seems like most testimonies are using TM to end the process.

It seems many are not aware that the "End all tasks" function is available in the right click context menu. This saves a visit to the task manager to do the same thing. It has the same effect as the kill batch file while also being able to kill (close) other problematic tasks.

No doubt the fact that this menu item is disabled by default had led to this lack of use.

To enable.

Click Start, then Settings, then System.

On the RHS click "For developers"

Turn on "End Task"

No reboot required.

Next time a program does not close right click its icon in the status bar and click "End task"

My understanding is that this is a Win 11 feature, not found in Win 10 but I could be wrong.

Could be. With Win10 end of life Oct 25 I'm guessing (hoping) most users have or will move to Win11. Just another option.

Cheers
