Coming back to MSFS2020 after a hiatus, a few questions.

Featured Replies

Hi Folks,

I'm getting back into MSFS2020 after a two year hiatus, and am trying to get caught up. I've updated my software, done a few flights and things still seem to be working fairly reasonably.  That being said, I had a few questions which googling hasn't fully solved which I wanted to throw out to the community.

1) Is there a fix for trees yet, especially regarding giant trees in cities?
2)  Are there any decent AI Traffic solutions or is it still kinda a kludge?  Is AIG still the best option for model matching?
3)  Did the DX11 vs DX12 debate get resolved affirmatively?
4)  Have any earth shattering add-ons been released?  I know about the basics like addon-linker, we love VFR etc.  I've heard good things about autoFPS which I may try out.  Anything else?

Any other big changes I'm missing? (I'm aware 2024 launched, but am not planning on upgrading yet).

Thanks everyone for your time,

Aorus Master X570 / 5800x3d w/ Arctic Freezer ii 280 / Asus TUF 3090 w/ gigabyte BIOS / 2x16GB b-die @ 3600Mhz

  • DX11 and DX12 both work fine in 2020 so don't see any 'debate' happening.
  • BATC and Self Loading Cargo both work very well in 2020, and 2024 for that matter.

Outside of that, It. Just. Works.  😉

For some, probably most 2020 will not shut down without CTRL alt delete

1.To fix the Trees You're looking at Rex Accuseason or Bijans i believe

2. AIG works fine if you are patient with the download process. | FSTL if you just want to get it done and over with. You will have the majors but no out of the way never heard of it airline.

3. Both options of DX are good and serviceable.

4. I'm a very cautious person with addons so i am probably not the best to answer that.

Current MSFS2020 issue.

As noted in another post .. the sim is currently  not shutting down fully after the last update so you will have to go into the task manager and force it to close upon exiting the sim.

What is causing that shutdown issue in MSFS 2020 for some users? I am not suffering from that problem.

Good question, Only Asobo only knows what they done. Some say it has to do with the NAVDATA NEEDING AN UPDATE.

One of the latest updates, there are hundreds of posts on the FS Forum regarding this issue. If you have windows 11  there is an easy setting in W11 so you can right click on FS2020 and close it after normal shutdown.

Ditto, no issues here either.

Make sure you check in task manager after shutting down, you might be surprised to find that MSFS is still eating around 30% CPU cycles.

Checked after every flight, it's gone... I would also expect the MSFS didn't shut down properly do you want safe mode or MSFS is already running messages if it didn't actually shut down

Not everyone is impacted

Nobody knows for sure but possibly due to a navdata update. So far there has been zero response and support from Devs. Their priorities lie elsewhere. FS2020 status is now abandoned.

2020 is not abandoned go spew your nonsense elsewhere.  It literally just had a World update and City update in the past few months.

If you want to have your opinions on MSFS fine but don't spread outright untruths.

Do you also realize how illogical it is to claim that MSFS2020 is abandoned when the issue was potentially caused by an "UPDATE"
There is sort of a foundational flaw in your "logic"

For the OP: I would say that LSFG (Lossless Scaling and Frame Generation) is in the category of distantly-recent ground-breaking utilities, especially with your more modest system.  It's a ~$7 Steam app that allows activation of frame generation on the fly to effectively double or triple the frame rate...should work with your 3090, too.  Some Green Belt-level Google-Fu will turn up discussions on how to configure it for the sim.

For AI I use PSXT+RealTraffic with models from AIG, FSLTL, and FSTraffic.

The popping ground textures that were plaguing DX12 seem to be gone now.  With a 24GB video card, VRAM limits with DX12 are a non-factor.  And if you do decide to use LSFG, it only works with DX12.

As to the shutdown issue...I am not seeing it here, and the last few days I have been looking explicitly at what's running after a session with Process Lasso just to make sure MSFS2020 has not been left lurking in the background.  More generally, when I've had issues with other programs not closing properly, it's usually turned out to be driver or OS-related, e.g. program not unhooking from a video/sound/other device driver properly.  I'd go looking first for things common to a lot of systems like having multiple sound or video devices active, USB ports (even ports not used by the sim) getting shut off automatically by the OS, etc.  I have my doubts that it's a navdata update issue, as that would affect everyone, and clearly that's not the case.

1) Run, don't walk, and get your copy of REX Accuseasons. It's a game changer.

2) The FSLTL fleet &  Traffic Injector are free and easy way to have lots of Airliners. Just beautiful!

3) I'm using DX12 BETA and it's what I prefer.

4) AutoFPS is a must try! Also check out FlowEssentials or FlowPro. Must have IMO.
