How many simmers have both MSFS and X-Plane???

Since you got your money back, I predict it will work perfectly with the Steam edition

I was just thinking about doing that … see if the Steam version works correctly … need to check Steam’s return policy — 30 minutes, hmmm (better check quick).  The MSFS 2024 MS Store install seemed too quick on my new PC … but worth a shot.

@alanw2005 I started with X-Plane in 2017. Added DCS World. Added Prepar3D. Added MSFS 2020. Added MSFS 2024. Stopped using MSFS 2020. Infrequent use of Prepar3D now

  • You got $8000-$500,000 to certify X plane for the FAA?

Xplane 12.20 beta atmosphere is incredibly realistic. It just feels alive with proper representation of many cloud formations realistically simulated from stratocumulus to meteorologically correct CB'

The one thing to worry about is that Steam only gives you 30 minutes trial, and then no refunds if use is over 30 minutes.

You can get refunds for up to two hours on Steam.

Something is very wrong here.

Does anyone else feel like they're being sold something? Something they neither need nor want.

Does anyone know how to test an article to determine if it has been written by AI?  Asking about "monitor, keyboard and mouse" separately from the computer is sending up all sorts of red flags for me.  Maybe appropriate for XBox, but not for "a game ready computer".

And now, back to your regularly scheduled flame wars.

Hook

😁😄😅 So you are thinking I am AI??? You are trying to flame AI? I am not a fan of Flame Broiled. I love the Big Mac!!!

Steam MSFS 2024 version seems to work better, I could at least do a flight.  BUT, I think the issue is with the "required" connection to my XBOX account ... got 0% and a gray empty square in the center after providing my credentials  ... for about 10 minutes of nothing happening, I end task. Tried again and this time got run MSFS in "safe mode" message saying my Market Place will be disabled?  Odd, seems to be some issue with MSFS 2024 connecting to my XBOX account ... oddly MSFS 2020 connected to my XBOX account without issue (on the same PC).

I don’t think you’re AI, but … in 2 days you’ve gone from ”I own MSFS 2024 and it is a disappointment. 6 months later and it is still a hot mess. Fixes and improvements move at the speed of mud.” to stating that you think it is momentous and that you enjoy flying it.

Looks a bit dodgy to me.

When making comparisons, taking note of one thing having features that the other doesn't have is absolutely a consideration. People make decisions based on this every single day.

Ok.

Can you draw a line now?  You could've just disagreed instead of perpetuating something I asked several days ago, that I had forgotten about and moved on from.

While I understand your point, and it is valid, there are more important things than acceleration, even in racing. Which car, Tesla or Porsche, could win the 24 hours of Le Mans?

Good point.
😉

Although my first contact with flight sim is with XPv6 demo version, I fly almost exclusively on MS ESP platform for non-combat flight from FS2002 all the way up to P3Dv4, I got XP11 when it's out but not really into it, until I somehow got the urge to try A350.

FF A350 is not the best tier add-on in any way, but it's the key for me to get hooked into XP11 then 12, now XP12 is my main sim far ahead of P3Dv5.

I got FS2020 on my system, ran it for like 20 hours (15 of that was just updating I guess). not really feel hooked.

Maybe one day there will be that "A350" moment for me on MSFS again... I'm not sure, Always-online might be a big enough obstacle for me to overcome compare to the unfamiliar settings and control schematics when transition from P3D to XP. Also I now maintain both P3Dv5, XP11 and XP12, as you guys said, already a headache...

MSFS 2024 for low altitude GA VFR flying. X-Plane for airliner flying. At 35,000 feet X-Plane terrain looks the same as MSFS.  I like the X-Plane system/UI/load times/robustness and airliners better. Horses for courses. No one ever said you can't have both.

One note is that MSFS 2024 scenery looks pretty bad in some areas too. It is not always good. There are lots of cities with generic AI generated buildings that look just as bad a X-Plane.

How do those AI generated city buildings look when compared to the same cities in MSFS 2020? I am not a fan of PG, so I always have it disabled.

In v2020 I switched from MS direct to Steam and it fixed a blocking error for me, too.

IIRC, in the very beginning of v2024 I had an account link delay, also.

Usually at times like this I will actually walk away from the computer for 10-15 mins and when I come back, most times it's worked thru whatever issue was causing the delay.

Believe it or not, same/same with X-Plane 🤙

Hi Chris. I have not flown 2020 since the day 2024 came out. I like the flight physics of 2024 much better.

I did leave it for a while … didn’t walk away, just started working on of my other computers.  Still seems to be issues with Market Place … showing things I own with a list of what is and isn’t compatible, but doesn’t let me install any of the compatible ones (this is day after returning to sim without running it in “Safe Mode”.

Also, doesn’t seem like I have all the airports/aircraft that are supposed to come with the $199 Aviator version?

Flight physics seem very different … dare I say more realistic, especially stall characteristics.  Runway undulations do seem more pronounced … almost too pronounced in some locations.Everything seems a bit more “out of focus” … as if DOF isn’t working … need to experiment with settings more to see if I can get a bit more clarity.  Visibility layers still kinda non-existent (haze, pollution, etc.)

Some things that still need tweaking, sunset coloring clouds “brown” rather than a nice yellow to red.  Just to wait and see how the add-on developer community responds.  Still trying to figure out which settings are killing FPS.

I’ll keep MSFS 2024, but I think it has 1-2 years more of bug fixes before I could consider it my “goto” simulator.  As I find myself with less and less free time these days, MSFS is getting more attention.

Yes, MSFS 2024 has improved flight physics compared to 2020. The 2024 planes are definitely harder to land. 2020 planes fell like they are on rails. Here is the flight physics math if you want to audit it:
