[21JUN25] Start of Summer Update for you: 777s, 737s and FSExpo next weekend!

Captains,

This week may have appeared like a quiet start to summer from the outside, but we are as busy as can be around the office at PMDG.

I have a few updates to keep you in the loop for this weekend- and you can be forgiving for thinking, "these kinda sound familiar" because they are- but read on and you'll find out why!

PMDG 777-300ER / PMDG 777-200ER / PMDG 777F Updates Next Week:
We have a slate of updates for the 777 fleet that we anticipate publishing next week. There are no major changes in these updates, but they consist of a sweep-up of numerous fixes stemming from conversations here in the forum, in our discord channel and with our tech support team. The majority of the work has been focused on cleaning up various open items that we think are important to have resolved in preparation for the release of these 777 products through the marketplace channel- as the update process for customers on that channel is slower than via the PMDG Operations Center, so it is important to eliminate as many nuisances as we can leading up to the Marketplace introduction for 200ER and the Marketplace 2024 introduction for all three 777 products.

Watch the Operations Center for that update series.

PMDG 777-200LR:
We finally got the 200LR into beta testing!

The 200LR was already quite mature by the time we got her into testing, so I do not anticipate the test cycle taking very long. We are eying early July for release, but recognizing that we have FlightSim Expo 2025 next week and then the US Independence Day holiday the following week, it is likely that we could have this release slide from 01JUL-02JUL into the 08JUL-09JUL timeframe, so please don't panic if you haven't seen her by 03JUL.

Her release timeline for marketplace will be ASAP.

PMDG 737NGs Coming to MSFS 2024:
With the release of 777-200LR pending, the next series of releases will be focused on the 737NG line of products. We are hard at work bringing the 737-800 into MSFS 2024, to include upgrades to many features of the visual models, additional features that have been developed during the 777 development period, an entirely new sound suite and many new features in the tablet. We also have some other features we haven't showed yet- but as we begin to preview the 737NG for MSFS 2024 in the coming weeks, you'll be happy with some of the updates that have been wrapped into these rebuilds for our MSFS 2024 customers.

PMDG DC-6:
We are currently in holding with our effort to move the DC-6 into MSFS 2024. We have seen notes on changes to the LOD models that are pending in MSFS 2024 and these will unlock forward progress for DC-6, we hope. The currentl LOD methods in both 2020 and 2024 are sub-otpimal, but can be overcome with some different hacks that the dev community has developed and shared among ourselves. Unfortunately these hacks do not work on DC-6 and if we released her to you right now, you would be disappointed with the visual quality. We have had a healthy conversation with Microsoft on the topic and we remain hopeful that the LOD issues will be resolved with the release of SU3 and that will unstick this release in 2024.

PMDG 747:
This is the product line I am most interested in currently. I'm sure you can understand why. rolleyes.png

In an effort to keep all of you focused on the progress we are making through 777s and the 737s, I intentionally stopped sharing updates on the 747 fleet, but we anticipate resuming updates on this product line shortly after FS Expo25. If you attend Expo, you may even get to see some preview images that will give you a sense of just how grand this product line will be. Currently the 747-100 and 747-400 are in development, and we aren't certain yet which one will release first... but we have to get it's little light-twin-siblings out of the way first.

Max. At Expo? Okay that is just SILLY:
I have mentioned a number of times that our MAX development is currently in holding in order to ensure we de-conflict it from some work we are doing on the Enterprise side of our operation. That status has not changed, but we anticipate it will change over the next few months.

We love the anticipation for our version of MAX, but please do believe me when I say that we aren't just going to drop such a thing on you unannounced. You'll know it is coming. You will have seen a few preview images (mostly of landing gear- because that annoys a subset of people) maybe even a few streamers, and we'll have been narrowing the release window for you for a few weeks prior to actually releasing it. The last time we did an unannounced release was 20 years ago this summer with our first 747-400 release in august of 2005. We learned a few things about marketing in the 20 years since and unannounced releases aren't our thing.

Oh- and since someone is bound to launch a conspiracy theory: That link someone found on Thursday? It has been live since 10MAY and was being used by one of our supporting vendors to test systems that will be used to distribute the 737NG updates for MSFS 2024 at a discount for our existing 2020 customers. So, no, it isn't some guaranteed hidden signal that we are prepping a product release. cool.png

Believe me- we get far too much credit for organization and deviousness. I wish we had the energy to create such subterfuge. We are too busy trying to unwind changes to the MSFS intake process!

Microsoft Flight Simulator Marketplace:
We have been in a continual discussion with Microsoft's intake team regarding various features and issues we are experiencing with the 2024 intake process. The conversations have been helpful, healthy and focused on identifying and resolving blocking issues so that we can get our Marketplace users the PMDG 2024 products that they are excited about. We have hit a few features in the 2024 environment that do not operate as they did with 2024, and when we have consulted the documentation we find that it is often outdated or incorrect- and this has lead to frequent discussions with the intake team to clarify some of the various limitations and ground rule requirements to get our products through the intake process. We are hopeful that it won't take much longer, and you'll have the whole suite of 777s available to you soon.

For our Marketplace 2020 customers, we have updates for the 777-300ER and 777F working their way through intake, as well as a new 777-200ER that we hope to have available for you as soon as next week. We will keep you posted.

FlightSim-Expo 2025:
More than a dozen of us will be attending FlightSim Expo 2025 in Providence, Rhode Island next weekend and we really hope you will come out and spend some time with us. We have all kinds of free PMDG swag for you, and we even have some click bait, in the form of click-pens... if you want to see one, check out our youtube channel and watch today's update.

We hope we will see you there. This is the first time PMDG has hosted our own booth at any show- and we look forward to giving you a chance to see the 777, 737 and if you are lucky, we'll have preview images of the 747 rolling on one of the demo machines when you stop by.

Come see us!

That is all we have for you this week. (All! That is it!) I hope you have a nice weekend, which is the start of summer for all of us in the northern hemisphere.

Flame on.

Bit of an audio update for all the triples is what I would have thought they were seeing on their forum...

Regards,

In the YouTube video update they mentioned the 777 and 737 are getting sound updates.

They should save themselves the effort for the B737, I really can't seem them surpassing or even just matching Boris's work.

I know the Max isn’t coming just yet as they made that clear some time ago. But the part where he said they wouldn’t just drop it out of the blue is not entirely true. During one of Robert’s past interviews with FilbertFlies, he said the release timeline of the PMDG 737 Max for MSFS would probably be released sometime in the middle of the PMDG 777 variant releases.

I know things do change, just wanted to point that out as this is probably why the news on the Max sighting spread so quickly online.

So the NG for 2024 will be a paid update… had they mentioned that somewhere before?

Were you expecting a free update for a product over 4 years old, that needed to be completely rebuilt for 2024?

Yes. This is not new info.

Completely rebuilt? It has the same system’s logic since the P3D days!

Then again, I was asking if they had mentioned this somewhere (which you failed to answer), not complaining about a paid update at all.

Yes in an obscure update a while ago. Said it would be a small fee.

I think they should charge a fee for brining it up to date.

I hope they charge a large fee they deserve it and I think most people would feel it’s worth it too.

And that will also convince many to just fly the iFly Max.
