What do you use to video your flight?

Featured Replies

I like to screen record my take-offs and landings (whatever I am looking at in the flight).

In 2020, the recorder built into the AMD Adrenalin drivers worked fine, but in 2024 the recording stutters (even though the flight didn't). I tried with FSR3 on and off, no difference.

What does everyone else use to record 2024, especially YouTubers whose video quality is very good.

OBS Studio is free, and you can bind a hotkey to start/stop recording.

I use "relive" in the AMD Adrenalin driver suite, highest bitrate. I don't get any stutters when recording 2024.

My recordings are saved to a different drive than Flight Sim is running on. Have you tried that at all?

For me, 2020 records without stutter but HDR is messed up, and 2024 records perfectly with zero stutter and HDR being fine.

That's what I'm using, (I think they renamed it 'Record and Stream'). I'm saving to a different SSD.

I'll try playing with the settings. Failing that, I'll try OBS Studio that FPBSteve suggested.

Do these recorders save all aspects of the flight? There is nothing worse than looking forward to a recording of a landing, and then noticing that the flaps are not extended, the thrust reverser doors do not open, and the undercarriage has no shock absorbers!!

Wrong thread sorry for the previous post 😄

BTW I don't usually record but when I do (only to report issues or comparisons) I use Game Bar.

No. These record what is actually on the screen. They do not recreate a flight as such.

Wish we had something like the original IL-2 had. It recorded data on the flight so you could replay the flight (in game) using any camera. People made some great movies 🙂

There are a few such tools out there. I had good experience of Flight Recorder, available for free from https://flightsim.to/. You can see a brief example in this video (ski pto 3:05 if that link doesn't work right). You can also use Flight Control Replay, which you need to pay for (but is built into MSFS 2024). They aren't perfect, but they are there 🙂

There a lot of very good free tools out there. I just use the one built into the nVidia App. (This app will replace GeForce Experience).

Its all very well designed, the hotkeys work very well , you can choose the rez the vid is recorded at, all that sort of thing.

But...how do you get ultra smooth stutter free recordings?  Isn't that only w/ a dedicated video capture card?  I run MSFS pretty much maxed out for my hardware so there isn't enough resource leftover to do a near perfect capture for posting on YT.   I guess maybe go down to 1080p, but what would be best would be to be able to show what I see in-sim, in-video.

You're using a 4090 with a decent cpu aren't you Noel?  You won't need a separate card to use these recording apps.

Generally they're all fairly light on system demands. OBS Studio is excellent; extremely flexible, produces high quality video output that can be edited together but takes some understanding and practice and has a slightly heavier footprint than Nvidia Shadowplay.

Since you have an Nvidia card you'll have Shadowplay available to use. It's very simple to set up and start using. You won't need to compromise your screen resolution to use it. If you're outputting 4k at a high resolution you'll be able to upload a video to YouTube that will display as 2160p at 4k.

Bare in mind that because you can't edit Shadowplay vids together what you produce is 'one take'.  It'll record exactly what's displaying on your screen.

This isn't too much of a disadvantage over OBS Studio due to MSFS lacking a decent track recording system within the sim anyway.

With my i7 12700k and 4070ti Super system at 1440p;

So how do you post Flight Recorder files to Youtube?

I use Debut Video Capture and Screen Recorder software by NCH.

Notes:
I also use their VideoPad Video editor and WavePad Sound editor.
I have been using their software for many years.
Currently I only have MSFS2020 on Win11 PC.
