Chaseplane in 2024

Featured Replies

I haven't used Chaseplane since P3D about 10 years ago.  Currently in MSFS 2024 i fly the Fenix and have some camera settings that I set up for my different views and have keyboard keys assigned to switch views.  What are the benefits of Chaseplane these days?  Is it worth the $ over what I currently use.  What are the benefits? I don't do any streaming or anything outside of lying airliner routes.  Thanks!

I just find the ease of setting up views extremely quick and simple. I also love the ability to use multiple views to one key assignment, making for the possibility of endless options. And the added bonus of camera effects make it a must (far superior to fsrealistic, in my opinion).

The flyby views, cinematic and tower views are just perfect too...

I use chaseplane mainly to get the old spot plane view back that asobo removed for some stupid reason.

It gives you fly-by, runwaym spot and tower views, plus 'cinematic', which I don't care for. The UI seems very clunky (from what I have seen online) and the price is far too high for what it does. But that is just my opinion..... I personally won't buy it.....

I really like it. But I also combine it with a Streamdeck XL so I have about 28ish shortcuts to various views. It’s overkill, but I like the freedom of it. I don’t stream either.

The only thing I can see that I’d use is the fly by and tower views, but I’m holding out (fading) hope those will someday be made part of the base game.  I can’t see myself paying the asking price for those two things.

Plus, tower and runway view would really only be useful to me in a replay, not live.

There's an entire thread already dedicated to Chaseplane for MSFS 2024 just a little further down from yours that'll answer your questions.

Yes. I set the shortcut to all my views on Chaseplane as "Alt + XXX" and then set a load of Hotkeys on Streamdeck with the shortcuts.

Basically, I used it to replicate the camera settings I used in my FSX and P3D days: no annoying transition between views, ease of view resetting, quick side/up/down views (as in my old FS9 2D panel era) and the ability to set the camera mounting as stiff or flexible as I want. And that was using simply the SDK for these sims (i.e., no Chaseplane).

I also get the added benefit of importing views easily. I mean, I can set the views for the Fenix A319, and then simply import them into the A321. That was a chore in all sims (FS2004, FS2024 and everything in between). Also, the ability to fine tune the views is a blessing.

After having both the FSX/P3D and the 2020/2024 versions, I can say the UI could be a bit better, specially for assigning buttons and removing views (too many extra clicks in the 2020/2024 version). But I love the fact I can use button combinations in CP 2020/2024 (too bad this feature was never present in the FSX/P3D version). For me, CP is worthwhile, but I got the 2020 version during Black Friday (42% off) and got the 2024 one for free.

It's a I believe common misconception you can't fine tune views w/ the default camera system.  I was perplexed by this too, which mostly affected my main frontal pilot view, primarily because I found it nigh to impossible to center HUD display in its HUD frame.  Turns out it's super simple to fine tune it or any view:  the trick is to

  1. Open the Camera interface from the dropdown toolbar
  2. Move the Freelook Speed slider down to a very low speed, 5 or 10.

Now you can you your default motion keys (Shift+ A, S, D, Q, E) in fine increments.  When happy, simply hit Ctrl-Alt+# to lock it in.  Then can put the speed slider back to its default, or leave it for future adjustments.

That's something I'd have liked to know a month ago 😂. Thanks for the tip!
