PMDG 777 or Ini A340 or ...?

Featured Replies

The A340 still suffers from frequent WASM crashes where it will load with gear up and floating. The screens on the flight deck will be red with error messages.

To date no fix has been found.

I like it but this happens too often at the moment.

Something to consider is that the ToLiss A340 looks like it's launching for MSFS in the near future:

In terms of which to choose, my general advice is to get whatever is MOST different from everything you already have.

Based on your list of airliners, that's the A340. And because everyone knows 4 engines are better than 2!!! 🙂

I’m good with the iniBuilds A350from their shop, my A340 fix will for sure be this one.

Why are you not interested in the Maddog MD and of the airliners you own which is you favorite

It's really just a bit of an arbitrary reason.  I owned all the old versions of the MD and find the manual stuff (eg. overhead panel) with that plane a 'bit of a faff' 😊   I'm not keen on the layout of things.  I owned the Maddog going back to FSX (or maybe even FS2004) and just don't fancy repeating that learning curve again.

The 727 is a real old favourite and the provision of the virtual engineer really appeals.  I like realistic operations of airliners, from the left seat, but I'm not keen on playing flight engineer too 😆

Great suggestions and comments so far everyone - many thanks!

@JYW,I see you have already a Boeing and an Airbus. Which one do you like better? That might help you.

The last time in the Microsoft world, we had a (minimal) A340, was by feelThere

I remember that one!  Even older than that was the old "Phoenix Simulations" (PSS) A330 and A340.  These were my first airliners for FS, back in 2004 😎

I loved the Feelthere ERJ too... very complex and feature-rich for it's time.

That's a difficult one because I prefer the Fenix A320 but not particularly because I prefer the plane in real life.  It's just a more feature-rich, polished addon than the PMDG 737 in my opinion.

This feedback has all been great though.  Isn't the price difference between the PMDG 777 variants strange??  The -200LR is only $49, whereas the -200ER and -300ER are almost $80 !!   And the 777F is somewhere in the middle. I find this odd, seeing as they all have the same cockpit and PMDG systems.

At the moment I'm leaning towards the FSS 727 and one of the 777s.  Mostly because they can be flown with shorter routes than the A340   👍    I may get the 727 and 777F and do freight runs in the US and Europe.

I highly recommend the JustFlight 146 - seems easy on frames on my rig, AND it has 4 engines! 🙂

I already have it - sorry, missed it off my list!   I tend to 'merge' the 146 and the RJ in my mind!

If you are not keen on the flight engineer part, I do not see a reason to get the 727. Great plane and immersion, but a lot of work unless you let the flight engineer do the work for you.

You can do that with the 727. Just fly the plane and let the engineer do all the work for you. So that is an idea.

Is the INI A340 only available from the MS Marketplace??  (and not INI's own site)?

This will almost certainly steer me to the 777.

I like to buy my scenery from the Marketplace, but my planes from stores that do not encrypt the files.  I often make tweaks, particularly to the [autopilot] entry, as there are 2 lines of code that most developers miss from their aircraft, that result in a nice, realistic, smooth AP engagement.   Without them, you get that abrupt jerky engagement.

It will be sold by Ini direct in some time. Perhaps next month. They had a certain period of exclusivity on the Marketplace, but it is definitely coming to their own store. Just wait.
